A new novel booster circuit which reduces stray current and rail potential is proposed in this paper for DC railways. Design considerations are discussed and simulation results of a 750 V-DC MRT system with and without the proposed booster circuit are compared.","PeriodicalId":272748,"journal":{"name":"2009 Compatibility and Power Electronics","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121785348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is suggested by several handbooks that 20% of the half period should be used. However, in some applications, e.g. power supplies with extended input voltage variations, much smaller interlock delay time must be used to ensure correct operation of the inverter. In this paper the interlock delay time minimization possibility is analyzed on an example of an existing experimental device based on 6.5 kV IGBTs. Moreover, the possible impact of interlock delay time minimization on the isolated DC/DC converter components, operability and efficiency is evaluated.","PeriodicalId":272748,"journal":{"name":"2009 Compatibility and Power Electronics","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128255808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, to mitigate SSR, two control methodologies for turn-off angle control of the gate-controlled series capacitor (GCSC) are presented. The first methodology is an open-loop control that uses the line current frequency oscillations to generate proper turn-ff angle for the GCSC. The second one is a closed loop control that is based on the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy logic controller. The study system was modified from the IEEE First Benchmark Model by changing a part of the fixed series capacitor to the GCSC. The MATLAB® program was used to verify the effectiveness of each control methodology. Three different GCSC ratings were analyzed. It is shown that using an open-loop control methodology, in some GCSC ratings, the SSR can be properly damped. It is also shown that using TS fuzzy control methodology, not only SSR but also electromechanical power oscillation can be effectively damped.","PeriodicalId":272748,"journal":{"name":"2009 Compatibility and Power Electronics","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122330580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many techniques have been used to solve this second type of problems, actually techniques based in the evolution and natural selection (like genetic algorithms or evolutionary algorithms) are being used combined with electronic equipment. The FACTS are a good electronic equipment to be used in these problems, because the converter can stay in bypass until a line falls, in this moment the converter can be used to solve the problem. The line impedance can be changed using SSSC converters, because they can inject a voltage in quadrature with the line current, so the effect of the converter is a capacitive or a inductive reactance in series with the line impedance. This paper presents an evolutive algorithm that solves the problem of placing SSSC converters in a network to optimize the power flow across all the lines of those network, minimizing the total installed power. The number of converters to be placed and their power will be chosen by the algorithm too.","PeriodicalId":272748,"journal":{"name":"2009 Compatibility and Power Electronics","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122710385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among all categories of electrical disturbances, the voltage sag (dip) and momentary interruption are the nemeses of the automated industrial process. This paper presents results from two power quality audit conducted in different highly automated factories. In both cases it was found that the main problems for the equipment installed were voltage sags. The paper analyzes the capabilities of modern power supplies; the convenience of “embedded solution” is also discussed. Finally it is addressed the role of the Standards on the protection of electronic equipment.","PeriodicalId":272748,"journal":{"name":"2009 Compatibility and Power Electronics","volume":"164 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114612131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each station's performance is assessed by comparing real measurements to those resulting from the linear interpolation of the rest. Once an error is associated to the station, the error is drawn in a map, in which minimum error zones can be delimited. Frequency and wind speed in each direction are the magnitudes of interest to get a first categorization of wind resources associated to the region. The interest of the method relies in the possibility of forecasting everywhere within the region with an error inside the tolerable margins.","PeriodicalId":272748,"journal":{"name":"2009 Compatibility and Power Electronics","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126413442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metering technologies and communications systems have advanced to enable the development of DSP-based sensors. Power system surges, based on waveform shapes, can be classified into “oscillatory transient” and “impulsive transient” This paper investigates the challenges and possibilities in the development of a DSP power-quality event detection algorithm. It provides the real-time detection of transients without requiring a large amount of memory. It is presented its advantages as a simple and robust algorithm, over others well known proposal. Finally, the analysis of its performance in the time domain is addressed on a low-cost DSP board.","PeriodicalId":272748,"journal":{"name":"2009 Compatibility and Power Electronics","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130909939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
