OSCC presents with some typical histopathological characteristics like dysplastic epithelial cells with variable degrees of squamous differentiation. These histopathological features make it relatively easy to diagnose conventional squamous cell carcinoma. However, some cases show certain unique features that help in determining the prognosis of the disease. These features include epithelial-mesenchymal interaction, stromal hyalinization, clear cell change, stromal desmoplasia, perineural invasion, vascular invasion, tissue eosinophilia, giant cells and tertiary lymphoid follicle formation. The presence of giant cells in OSCC can be the result of foreign body reaction to keratin or due to formation of malignant tumor giant cells in poorly differentiated carcinomas. The giant cells showing pleomorphic features can be helpful in predicting the prognosis of the disease.","PeriodicalId":269506,"journal":{"name":"DMIMS Journal of Dental Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122222824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic requirement of any patient is the desire of ‘life-like’ appearance of the prosthesis. One of most significant challenges was to discover how often all the concepts of teeth selection can be practically applied in daily practice and to evaluate their application among dental practitioners. Materials and Methods : A questionnaire was circulated on the Google platform as a form of survey to determine the application of various concepts of teeth selection among dental practitioners. It was statistically evaluated on the basis of majority of answers given. Corelation between the knowledge, attitude and experience- based questions was determined. Results : A statistically significant corelation was found between the knowledge-based, attitude-based and experience-based questions. There was a linear corelation seen as graphical representation. The way knowledge, attitude and experience of the dental practitioners affects the treatment was also determined and corelated. Conclusion : Esthetic rehabilitation is a wholesome process. All the factors should be given equal importance at every step from selection of the teeth to the teeth arrangement and the final results. Knowledge of all the concepts of teeth selection is important to add to the experience and attitude of the dentist. A combination of all the three values of the dental practitioner is the need of the hour to provide the superior esthetics to the patient.","PeriodicalId":269506,"journal":{"name":"DMIMS Journal of Dental Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114896853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whilst the most frequently seen configuration is two mesial canals and one distal canal, other variations such as four canals, two canals, and C-shaped canal system do also exist. This case report describes the re-treatment of unusual root canal configuration of a mandibular second molar, with one canal in a single conical root, using the contemporary advancements in endodontics. Following clinical and radiographic examinations of the case, a diagnosis of symptomatic apical periodontitis of tooth #37 was established, and retreatment followed by composite build-up were planned. Clinicians should be aware of the different anatomic variants each tooth may exhibit. Furthermore, clinicians need to possess the proper knowledge and skills that allow them to utilize the diagnostic and therapeutic tools available at their disposal in order to optimize the quality of care provided to their patients.","PeriodicalId":269506,"journal":{"name":"DMIMS Journal of Dental Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129700431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods : Implants were immediately placed in 12 patients following a 2-stage submerged protocol. The extraction sockets were irrigated with tetracycline solution. PRF was used to fill the gap between the implant body and the surrounding socket wall. The final restoration was placed after 3-months following implant placement. The modified plaque index (MPI) and modified bleeding index (MPI) were measured at baseline and 3 months. Vertical and horizontal bone loss was measured at baseline, 6 and 9 months using IOPA with grid scale. Result : The mean FMPI score was 0.35±0.03 and at 6 months it was 0.25±0.03. At 9 months follow up, the FMPI was slightly increased as compared to the baseline, but the increase was not significant. The mean horizontal bone level at mesial surface of implant at baseline was 0.20±0.25mm, at 9 months it was increased to 0.25±0.26mm at mesial surface. Immediate implants with placement of PRF in infected extraction socket, as a 2 stage protocol resulted in horizontal alveolar bone crest resorption of 0.26mm and 0.3 mm on the mesial and distal surface of implant respectively. Conclusion : Atraumatic extraction followed by placement of implant in infected socket with placement of PRF and implant covered by PRF membrane resulted in 100% survival rate. Clinical and radiographic data after 3 months of loading showed that peri- implant tissue was healthy and marginal bone resorption values were minimal around implants.","PeriodicalId":269506,"journal":{"name":"DMIMS Journal of Dental Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130189011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study also determined any gender bias in shade matching abilities of dental practitioners. Methods and Material : Sixty dental practitioners participated in this study. All participants were tested for color blindness using Ishihara’s tests. Two classical vita shade tabs were randomly selected, and their identification codes were concealed. The participants were asked to match these selected tabs by using a complete vita shade guide under three different light conditions-natural light, clinical light, and using the commercially available hand-held shade matching device. The chosen shade tabs were recorded, and the correct matches were counted. Statistical analysis used : The data were statistically analyzed using Mann Whitney ‘U’ test and Kruskal Wallis ‘H’ test. Results : Hand-held shade matching light was better than clinical light in terms of accuracy of visual shade matching. Natural daylight was statistically significantly better than clinical light (p =0.001). Accuracy among male participants was lower as compared to female participants, but the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusions : The use of a standardized hand-held shade matching device is comparable to natural daylight, and is recommended for accurate shade matching in absence of natural lighting conditions.","PeriodicalId":269506,"journal":{"name":"DMIMS Journal of Dental Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122054009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Maxilla is generally affected in cleft cases, origin can be genetic or influenced by environment. Effected planes can be in three planes transverse, sagittal or vertical. Presurgical or postsurgical orthodontics is indicated in different cases. Presurgical orthodontics proponents emphasized correction of tooth has marked influence in retention and stability of results of interventions performed. In transverse plane it can be buccally or palatally inclined amongst different malocclusion. Our objectives were to evaluate maxillary second molar inclination in Angle’s Class I, Angle’s Class III malocclusion, and unilateral cleft lip and palate patients cases in transverse plane. Material and method : A systematic procedure was followed for the measurement of maxillary second molar inclination in Angle’s Class I, Angle’s Class III malocclusion, and unilateral cleft lip and palate patients. Maxillary second molar inclination was deliberated using protractor assembled on the surveyor. Expected Results : Inclination of second molar in unilateral cleft lip and palate and Class III malocclusion would be comparable. Conclusion : Corrections are performed in transverse plane first, thus emphasizing greater importance of buccopalatal inclination.","PeriodicalId":269506,"journal":{"name":"DMIMS Journal of Dental Research","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125608445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
