By virtualizing and twinning information stemming from the real and the digital world, it is now possible to connect all parts of the production process by having virtual copies of physical elements interacting with each other in the digital and physical realms. However, this alone does not imply cognition. Cognition requires modelling not only the physical characteristics but also the behavior of production elements and processes. The latter can be founded upon data-driven models produced via Data Analytics and Machine Learning techniques, giving rise to the so-called Cognitive (Digital) Twin. To further enable the Cognitive Factory, a novel concept, dubbed as Enhanced Cognitive Twin (ECT), is proposed in this paper as a way to introduce advanced cognitive capabilities to the DT artefact that enable supporting decisions, with the end goal to enable DTs to react to inner or outer stimuli. The Enhanced Cognitive Twin can be deployed at different hierarchical levels of the production process, i.e., at sensor-, machine-, process-, employee- or even factory-level, aggregated to allow both horizontal and vertical interplay. The ECT notion is proposed in the context of process industries, where cognition is particularly important due to the continuous, non-linear, and varied nature of the respective production processes.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"515 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132789093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the application of PM for specialized engineering (or Systems Engineering) disciplines is not extensively documented. A Project Manager who has to start a project in a specialized engineering area will have doubts whether the usual abstract (conventional) PM elements (processes or themes) can be applied. It is not always clear, if projects in specialized disciplines require special PM elements. However, additional aspects must be considered. Possible (major) differences in conventional PM and PM for specialized areas can be critical for the success of the project. Such discrepancies are even greater the more specialized the area is. The purpose of the paper is to contribute to more clarity on the application of PM for specialized disciplines based on a case study. The case study describes a project on the formation of an engineering team in the specialized area of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) within Systems Engineering (SE).","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130226076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Holistic Model for UX evaluation was applied as a theoretical framework in this study. A repeated cross-sectional mixed-methods study was implemented based on qualitative and quantitative secondary data provided by the organization. ANOVA analysis and the Nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis Test were used for quantitative data analysis, and sentiment analysis and the cloud of terms were applied to qualitative data. The triangulation of results revealed that quantitative and qualitative results are complementary to each other. There was a statistically significant change in three (usefulness, novelty, and productiveness) of the seven selected properties. Sentiment analysis showed that the general opinion of the users of the Jaxber app is positive. Recommendations for improvement of the Jaxber app that came from the end-users of the mobile solution, when prioritised and implemented, may become a source of possible competitive advantages in the future.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131612276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current limited automation solutions support engineers, but still lead to repetitive tasks and design iterations. Machine learning finds and exploits patterns in data to predict designs enabling engineers to focus on core competencies. This work proposes a novel methodology to predict joining element locations using machine learning. It describes two approaches to predict specifically spot-weld locations using voxels as data representation. The study presents a regression and classification concept with 3D fully convolutional neural networks. Coordinate-based performance measurements enable to compare and evaluate models regardless of learning tasks or data structures. Results indicate that both concepts can accurately predict joining locations by only considering geometry.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"3 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131810012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and Systems that supported their operations are also changing. Enterprises are also becoming more socially responsible. The mobility topic is an actual and unavoidable theme regarding social responsibility, which needs to be developed in a three-bottom line approach throughout social, environmental and economic’ dimensions – in order to achieve a sustainable mobility. Necessarily, enterprises need to quickly adapt to the growing and rapid changes in the socio-economic and technological environment, thus embracing Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) – essential components of any enterprise system. Allied to a sustainability interoperability and with the Next Generation EIS (NGEIS) guidance, the future sustainable enterprise mobility can be defined. Other critical topic that Enterprises need to properly address and ensure is the data from their stakeholders to support the definition of strategic decision making and achieve rapid and efficient solutions fully aligned with the market context and their clients' expectation. It is also recognized the importance of the continuous technological evolvement, nevertheless these new technological solutions require private and confidential information of their users. Consequently, enterprises must be concerned with the implementation of adequate technological security mechanisms, that can ensure enterprise data and users' data protection. It is analysed/discussed how its EIS innovative features, together with other systems, could contribute to promote sustainable mobility in enterprises ecosystem and it is also enlightened a Portuguese company case.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"108 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117311674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Digital avatars - sometimes also called Digital Twins or more broadly Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) - are already successfully used in holistic systems for intelligent transport ecosystems, similar to the use of Big Data and artificial intelligence technologies interwoven with modern production and supply chains. The goal of this paper is to describe how data from interwoven, autonomous and intelligent supply chains can be integrated into the diverse data ecosystems of the Industry 4.0, influenced by a multitude of data exchange formats and varied data schemas. In this paper, we describe how a framework for supporting SMEs was established in the Lake Constance region and describe a demonstrator sprung from the framework. The demonstrator project's goal is to exhibit and compare two different approaches towards optimisation of manufacturing lines. The first approach is based upon static optimisation of production demand, i.e. exact or heuristic algorithms are used to plan and optimise the assignment of orders to individual machines. In the second scenario, we use real-time situational awareness - implemented as digital avatar - to assign local intelligence to jobs and raw materials in order to compare the results to the traditional planning methods of scenario one. The results are generated using event-discrete simulation and are compared to common (heuristic) job scheduling algorithms.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123330393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These vehicles are equipped with advanced functionalities such as near-full autonomous driving capabilities, and over-the-air updates. However, cars that are always connected to the Internet also raise the question of security. In this paper, we analyze the current challenges of IT security in continuously connected near-autonomous cars. In this study, we conducted 10 qualitative interviews with security experts from consulting, manufacturing, and software engineering, and we conducted desk research on case studies of failing security in connected cars. Additionally, we surveyed the general public on understanding and awareness concerning the risks of connected cars. Based on 351 minutes of recorded audio and 100 survey responses, we discuss the challenges and potential improvements for IT security in automotive and the awareness about the possible vulnerabilities. Furthermore, we provide an analysis of security breaches based on five p ublished cases. As a result of our findings, w e e mphasize t he need for better and integrated IT security in connected cars. The improvement of security is a joint effort by manufacturers, governments, and car users. We recommend that manufacturers need more IT security expert knowledge to further develop appropriate security measures, governments need to regulate the IT security of cars, and car users need to become more aware of the possible threats that come with continuous online connectivity of their cars.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"54 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120919984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Marketplaces such as Amazon or Airbnb have already adapted this business model to connect previously unconnected supply-side and demand-side to conduct a business transaction via a digital platform. Due to Industrie 4.0 and the rapid technological development that comes with it, digital platforms have entered the market within the area of the mechanical engineering. Different platform types exist, such as marketplaces for machine equipment or digital data platforms for connected machines. Although numerous companies claim to offer platform-based business models, they often lack knowledge on individual business model components. To close this gap, this paper structures a variety of existing platforms based on their detail characteristics. Within this paper, existing typologies of digital platforms from other industry areas are analyzed. Case study research of platforms within the mechanical engineering is used to adjust these typologies and create a new one for digital platforms within the mechanical engineering.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"316 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123683540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cloud technology is boon for these organizations, as cloud technology facilitates the pay per use model. Even after the acquaintance of the benefits of the cloud, the organization faces difficulties while adopting this technology in the semiconductor domain. The objective of our research is to understand the factors which impact the adoption of cloud technology in the semiconductor industry and how these factors are inter-related. We adopted the TOE (technical, organizational, and environmental) framework to determine the success factors. In this research, we used multiple criteria decision-making methods to assess the causal relationship among the dimensions and their corresponding factors, which further helps to calculate the overall priority of factors. We found that factors under technological and organizational dimensions are the causal factors that are affecting the adoption of cloud technology in the semiconductor industry.","PeriodicalId":269465,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE International Conference on Engineering, Technology and Innovation (ICE/ITMC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115308569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
