Abstract
Project Management (PM) is an established and well researched field. However, the application of PM for specialized engineering (or Systems Engineering) disciplines is not extensively documented. A Project Manager who has to start a project in a specialized engineering area will have doubts whether the usual abstract (conventional) PM elements (processes or themes) can be applied. It is not always clear, if projects in specialized disciplines require special PM elements. However, additional aspects must be considered. Possible (major) differences in conventional PM and PM for specialized areas can be critical for the success of the project. Such discrepancies are even greater the more specialized the area is. The purpose of the paper is to contribute to more clarity on the application of PM for specialized disciplines based on a case study. The case study describes a project on the formation of an engineering team in the specialized area of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) within Systems Engineering (SE).
