The proposed design includes the unique characteristics of low cost, low power consumption, and wireless communication capability that makes it flexible for current measurement at different environments. In addition, the quiescent voltage adjustment enable the adjustment of DC voltage level to eliminate the DC 2.5±0.05 V quiescent voltage requirement in each Hall sensor for an easy signal transformation in back-end monitoring systems. Simulation and measurement results show that HCTs can eliminate the problems of asymmetric magnetic flux density distributions outside the conducting wire which originated from its non-straight structure or its asymmetric cross-section. The accuracy class of the current measurements using HCTs can meet the 0,5 class according to IEC standard and their current waveforms do not suffer the saturation from using traditional CTs.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123037635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed four-phase current-fed converter is with interleaved configuration and preserving the inherent advantage with smaller input current ripple. Through the proposed topology, the high voltage gain can be achieved using the relatively lower transformer turns ratio. Also, the voltage stresses of both active switches and diodes are greatly reduced so that the low on-resistance switches can be adopted and the reverse-recovery effect of diodes can be decreased naturally. The DC and AC small signal models of the proposed converter are derived for better closed loop control, and some design guidelines are then given for circuit implementation. Both simulation and experimental results indeed verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121587055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This makes it clear that it is necessary to update the load model and provide an accurate representation of the new generation loads. This paper describes the development of the new appliances load model, such as LCD TV, LED TV, and game consoles (Xbox 360™, Wii™, and PS3™), because they become the common appliances that can be found in most of the customers' home. Since ZIP load model is a well known model which establishes the dependency of the power with respect to voltage with physical meaning, this paper follows the same concept to develop the load models that can be seamlessly adopted into commercially available program for better representation.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114864642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This proposal is due to the present trend in the transport applications, knowing that the major drawback in these last is the energetic autonomy problem and the DC-bus voltage sags. In this context, using Supercapacitors (SC) and Fuel Cell or Battery with a good strategy for energy management is a promising solution to improve the system performances. The main contributions of this paper present two aspects: The first is based on 54V-Supercapacitors module behavior modeling and experimental parameters identification. Second aspect, is focused on DC-bus voltage and currents control strategies based on polynomial controller. These strategies are implemented in the PIC18F4431 microcontroller for DC/DC converters control. Due to reasons of cost and available components, the experimental test bench is carried out in reduced scale. Through some simulations and experimental results obtained in reduced scale, the authors present an improved energy management strategy for transport applications.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130996707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the solar energy, as one of the green energy resources, has become an important alternative for the future. In this paper, the parallel loaded resonant converter with the feature of the soft switching technique was used in the circuits of the solar storage battery charger. To avoid the damage of the battery charger due to the variation of the output current of the solar PV panels, a closed-loop boost converter between the solar PV panel and the battery charger was designed to stabilize the output current of the solar PV panel. By designing the characteristic impedance of the resonant tank, the charging current of the storage battery can be calculated and then the charging time for the storage battery can further be estimated. By properly designing the circuit parameters, the parallel loaded resonant converter can be operated in the continuous current conduction mode and the switch can be switched for conduction at zero voltage. The experimental results verified the correctness of the theoretic estimation for the proposed battery charger circuit. The average charging efficiency of the battery charger can be up to 88.7%.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124342814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The DC system under study is assumed mainly dependent on renewable energy sources. The proposed topology utilizes a controlled series current compensator (CSCC) technique for connection and power flow control among buses. The proposed topology allows full power flow control among different DC buses while keeping the voltage level constant at all of them. Hence, loads connected to these buses will not be affected with the power flow process. Moreover, connection of buses at different voltage level and controlling the power flow can be easily achieved using this topology. The proposed topology adds to the complexity of the system. However, several advantages can be obtained out of its utilization. Simulation results verified the applicability of the proposed topology. Moreover, a prototype system has been designed and built in hardware to examine the performance of the proposed system. The experimental results show the validity of the proposed system as a powerful technique to interconnect DC buses.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114303590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) made an interpretation of NEC Section 250.50 that the grounding electrodes of the power panels at three different locations should be bonded to the main switchboard grounding electrodes by installing underground bonding conductors. Designers disagreed with AHJ and were opposed to such installation. Due to physical locations of the panels and the switchboard within the facility, such installation was impractical. To meet NEC requirements and to satisfy AHJ, a discussion of bonding of facility grounding electrodes is included in this paper. At locations where underground bonding conductors were not practical to install, bonding of structural steel members with metallic conduits for feeder cables that carry equipment grounding conductors between the main switchboard and various power panels act as bonding conductors.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116808569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The BELM performs the functions of motor as well as magnetic bearing. Rotor is suspended with non-contact by suspension force. In a conventional BELM, there are two kinds of stator windings such as motor and suspension windings. The motor winding outputs the rotational torque, and the suspension winding outputs the suspension force. To simplify the structure of conventional BELM, integration of two windings is proposed in this paper. By integrating the windings, the structure of BELM becomes simple and also the torque and force productions are increased. The daxis stator current controls suspension force and the q-axis current controls the developed torque of the motor. In the case when there is less number of slots in the machine, the actual suspension force cannot follow the command. In order to make the actual suspension force to follow the command a compensation method in also proposed in this paper. A simulation study is done for the proposed radial position control based integrated winding BELM using finite element analysis software.","PeriodicalId":268988,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128365913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
