{"title":"The Failure of the Democratic Transition in Tunisia (2010-\u00002021): The Reasons and the Expected Scenarios","authors":"","doi":"10.51405/19.2.10","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51405/19.2.10","url":null,"abstract":"The study aims to highlight the theoretical rooting of the concept of democratic\u0000transition, and to study the reasons for the failure of the Tunisian experience after ten\u0000years of the democratic transition process in light of the escalation of the political and\u0000constitutional crisis and the conflict between the three presidencies (President of the\u0000Republic, Head of Government, Speaker of the Assembly of People’s Representatives).\u0000The paper also aims to study the justifications that prompted the President of the\u0000Republic to issue exceptional decisions (7/25/2021) to freeze the democratic process.\u0000The article uses the historical, descriptive, analytical, and probabilistic inductive\u0000approach to prove the validity of its hypothesis. There is a correlation between the\u0000stumbling of the democratic transition process and the form of the mixed political\u0000system that was adopted in the 2014 constitution. {"title":"Context Effect and its Strategies to Clarify the Meaning of\u0000Unfamiliar Words","authors":"","doi":"10.51405/19.2.1","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51405/19.2.1","url":null,"abstract":"This paper examines the effect of context (verbal context or text of situation) to clarify\u0000the meaning of an unfamiliar words, by induction the Prophet’s traditions, which include\u0000unfamiliar words in the study's corps. Moreover, the article explains the context\u0000strategies to reach its effect. The context has varied aspects to clarify the meaning: it is\u0000either preference one meaning over another, or preference a formula over another, or\u0000clarification general meaning of a word (The semantic field), or clarification an exact\u0000meaning by various strategies: the selection restrictions, the simile, and the antonymy.\u0000The paper concludes that the context has a limited effect to clarify the meanings of\u0000unfamiliar words, especially if it is incomplete, when many of its elements of situation\u0000are absent, due to narration. The first one is the Egyptian issue, which refers to the conflict that took place between the governor of Egypt, Muhammad Ali Pasha, and the Ottoman Empire over the rule of the province of Syria, and this conflict lasted for a decade (1831-1841 AD). The study focuses in particular on the end of the Egyptian rule in the province of Syria, and the policy of the Ottoman Empire to expel the Egyptians from the Syrian lands during the reign of Sultan Abdul Majid I (1839-1861 AD).\u0000On this topic, the study attempts to address the following questions:\u00001 -What were the reasons that led Muhammad Ali Pasha, the governor of the Ottoman\u0000Empire, to separate from the Empire؟\u00002 -What is the stance of the European countries towards the Egyptian issue؟\u00003 -What are the most important results achieved by the Treaty of London (1840 AD)؟\u00004 -How did the Egyptians evacuate the province of Syria؟\u0000Second, the sectarian conflict in Syria and Mount Lebanon began after the Egyptians left the province of Syria and Mount Lebanon (1841 AD). One of the most important drivers of this conflict was the Egyptian politics during the Egyptians’rule over the state of Syria. {"title":"Feminine Body between Appropriation and Tyranny in Sulaiman alShatti’s Novel\u0000\"Silence Extends\", “Semiotic reading”","authors":"","doi":"10.51405/19.1.11","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51405/19.1.11","url":null,"abstract":"This paper addresses the phenomena of appropriation and tyranny in the face of the\u0000feminine body in the novel \"Extending Silence\" by the Kuwaiti novelist Sulaiman alShatti. It depends on the analytical method that includes the following elements: the\u0000connotation of the title, the authoritarian woman, the oppressed woman, and the\u0000semiotics of the body. It discusses the key phenomena that surface the novel. As regards the connotation of the title, it is an efficacious element that shows up the theme of silence that extends throughout the novel and becomes a dominant element in the space of the narrative text.\u0000Appropriation, tyranny, oppression and the body were evident in their miserable\u0000situation in which the duality of masculinity and femininity exposed the enormous\u0000persecutions that woman went through in a society that undergoes social and cultural\u0000restrictions. The woman in this novel reflects important attitudes within her social, daily\u0000and literary frameworks. She is reduced to a mere object and is unable to express her\u0000feelings and sensations or take possession of her body and soul, which are the exclusive property of an arbitrary and appropriating culture.\u0000Physical signs stand out in the novel and constitute an additional language that interrelates with the verbal indications. Body was converted into a set of semiotic signs\u0000that disclosed the outlooks of characters and their distinguishing features as well as the\u0000woman’s reality in the Arab society and what she suffers in her daily life. {"title":"Semiotics of the Mask in Abdullah Thabet’s The Sleeping\u0000Face","authors":"","doi":"10.51405/19.1.3","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51405/19.1.3","url":null,"abstract":"This paper, entitled (Semiotics of the Mask in Abdullah Thabet’s The Slpeeing Face),\u0000sheds light on an artistic technique and means of expression that the novelist relies on in the weaving of his narrative imagination, which is the mask technique. The paper aims to expose the implications and manifestations of the mask and its asethetic formulation in the text. This creative technique leads to a number of questions: How did the writer use the mask in creating his narrative world? What are the indications and signs that he is suggesting in the text? Then what is the aesthetic and artistic impact that is formed on the construction of the text? The paper uses the semiotic methodology based on theories of Pierce and Germas to address these questions. Considering that these theories are closer to what my study aims at in tracing the signification and linking it together through a group of minor structures that have nodded their signs at the superficial level of the narrative structure, and then linked to deep relations within the text at the deep level, the researcher feels it is necessary to divide the paper into two sections represented in the formations of the mask and its connotations and the structure of the mask according to the surface structure and the deep structure. The paper exposes linguistic aesthetics of the mask represented in linguistic intensification, which grants the novel a poetic dimension that transforms the text into more aesthetic depth. Six dimensions of alienation scale\u0000were examined: powerlessness, normlessness, social isolation, meaninglessness, selfestrangement and cultural estrangement. A sample of 486 aged between 17-24 years was selected by using opportunistic sample. Questionnaire was the major tool of this study. It included demographic and primary variables. It included also some scales: self-report religiosity, self-report social support, self-report social network, and aggression scales. A social alienation with six dimensions scale was also used. Results show that there are significant differences between male and female in aggression, social alienation scales, and some social variables. Data show also there is a significant correlation between aggression scale and religiosity, some social variables (number of family members), and social support. Also, relationship is found between aggression and alienation scales in all its dimensions.
