{"title":"Representations of Women in \"Hazrat Al-Mohtarm\" by Naguib Mahfouz","authors":"","doi":"10.51405/19.2.2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51405/19.2.2","url":null,"abstract":"This study deals with how women are represented and the qualities and implications of\u0000this representation in the behavior of the hero in Hazrat Al-Mohtarm (1975) by Naguib\u0000Mahfouz, which is a novel that presents a very complex human experience. As for why\u0000the woman is in this novel, the woman achieves a remarkable presence in the life of the\u0000protagonist, Othman Bayoumi, who bestows special developments on his life that elicits\u0000his reactions to life's issues and manifestations, and then in the representation of the idea of work and its remarkable embodiment. The study deals with the idea of representations through four main axes: representations of sin, representations of desire, representations of sincere love, and representations of disappointment and loss. So access to the hero comes through an understanding of the dimensions of the woman's personality in the novel. The women of \"Othman Bayoumi\" were distributed on these four axes: Sayyidah, Qadria, Sunni, Asilah, Ansiyah, and Radaa. The study attempts to address the following questions: To what extent does the presence of women in this novel form a balance between the semantic and the artistic? What is the peculiarity of the presence of women in the novel? What effect does the presence of women have on shaping the features of the main character? What is the position that this representation appears in the novel?\u0000This article explores these ideas through the concepts of narratives in analyzing the\u0000characters at different levels: psychological, cultural, and feminist dimensions. The\u0000reflections of minor characters help shape and develop the protagonist of the novel. {"title":"Some Linguistic Phenomena in Al-Adawi and Al-Basul’s Hebrew Translations of the Holy Quran: A Critical Study","authors":"","doi":"10.51405/19.2.5","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51405/19.2.5","url":null,"abstract":"This research is based on the recent Hebrew translations of the Holy Quran: Al-Adawi\u0000and Al-Basul’s translations. In this research, I critically analyze these two translations in\u0000light of three phenomena of the Arabic rhetorics; specifically, antonymy, synonymy, and\u0000polysemy. Based on this research, I conclude that both translators did not consider the\u0000above mentioned phenomena for various reasons. First, it is because of the inability to\u0000convey the intended meanings on the part of the translators. Second, it is because of the\u0000inadequacy of the Hebrew language compared with Arabic since the latter has more\u0000lexical items with a wide variety of meanings. Arab media is not far from being impacted by this technology, considering the rapid digital transformation.\u0000Therefore, this prospective study determines the expected effects of this technology on\u0000the Arab media, through an opinion survey of 400 experts and media specialists in the\u0000Arab world. The research consists of an introduction and two sections. The first one is\u0000theoretical, explaining the linguistic theory with its two parts: Arabic and Western. Picard’s heroes,\u0000as in almost all of his dramatic works, oscillate between two situations: the inherited and\u0000preconceived appearance (illusion) and the discovered and experienced reality\u0000(disappointment). This may be a constant doubt about the reality of appearances. The forms of art developed during the modernist and\u0000postmodern periods were influenced by the traits of the people. For example, the\u0000modernists constantly searched for the abstract truth of life, while the postmodernists did not believe in the abstract truth.\u0000It is important to recognize that postmodern culture is a reaction against the culture\u0000of modernism. The works of postmodern artists create reality, whereas those of\u0000modernist artists reflect reality. During history, political crisis, natural crisis, economic\u0000development and social move have always played fundamental roles in art practice and\u0000movement in the world. Through studying art movement of the Qatari artist Yousef\u0000Ahmed and his transitions between modern and postmodern art, this paper nalyzes the\u0000reasons that might drove post-modern artists to look back at modernism. The paper\u0000addresses this question: why did Yousef Ahmed return to modernism after his huge\u0000success as a postmodernist artist? {"title":"Saif bin Omar's Novel about the Ridda of the Tamim Tribe","authors":"","doi":"10.51405/19.2.7","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51405/19.2.7","url":null,"abstract":"This article re-examines the authenticity of Sayf Bin Omar's account of the ridda among\u0000Tamīm, his own tribe. Sayf implies that the main body of Tamīm remained faithful to\u0000Madina at the advent of Muhammad's death. However, modern scholars have discredited\u0000Sayf's account on the grounds that 1) the Hadīth's critics considered him unreliable;\u0000hence rejecting his transmissions altogether. 2) All other Arab historians disagree with\u0000him on this matter. The article conducts an extensive examination into the attitude of\u0000every single Tamīmī section in the ridda and finds out that Sayf did not minimize the\u0000share of his tribe in the ridda as generally believed.
