Such environment could benefit from connecting and integrating different appliances to better coordinate the preparation and preservation processes. Yet, professional kitchens have received only limited attention from IT researchers and no comprehensive study has yet addressed the integration of professional appliances. The SIAF project aims at building a modular system connecting the oven, the vacuum packing machine and the blast chiller to improve the sustainability of the processes and the quality of food. Special attention will be devoted to involve target users throughout the design and evaluation process.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128825082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The digital representation of time is perhaps the most common. This study performed a simple study to explore the time representation preferences among children and adults. Children were chosen as they may have different cognitive profiles to adults. The results show that the opinion of children is more divided than among adults. Children generally prefer the analogue representation, while adults consistently prefer the digital representation. The results suggest that the digital representation of time using digits may not necessarily be the best choice.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124509796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept of Work Ability, which has been developed as an important multi-factor concept that can be used to identify workers at risk for an imbalance between health, personal resources and work demands, has the potential to mitigate the decrease in work ability of office workers while aging. The framework for modeling the work ability of the office worker, described at a conceptual level in this work, is grounded in a holistic multidimensional model which accounts for both the cognitive and physical resources of the individual, and factors related to work and the environment outside of work. AI tools for prediction and risk assessment allow for dimension specific decision support and intervention, including on-the-fly flexible work management, coping with stress at work, and on-demand training.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116439471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the number of older adults and the wide range of chronic conditions, health systems need to assure that care is adapted to the individuals' different needs and enables the elderly to be active and involved. This article is about introducing a food reminder system into the domain of dementia care. The aim is to explore and describe whether and how such a system, built with existing technology, can be valuable, and how caregivers adopted it in a real-world environment. The system is built with Android® tablets and is called iRemember.® The research is done as a case study at a care facility in Simrishamn, Sweden. Domain knowledge is gained by reviewing previous research and by conducting interviews with professionals at the facility. The system is developed, deployed, and evaluated at a care facility home for persons with dementia. Data about usage and perception of the value of the system is collected through observations and interviews. Results indicate that a food reminder system can be valuable to and empower people with dementia. They also indicate that caregivers can readily adopt such a solution, including both management and people working directly with persons with dementia.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115810710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study makes a unique empirical contribution to wearables research by extending the knowledge on factors that contribute to the adoption of quantified self-tracking wearable devices in an organizational environment. A wearable acceptance model (WAM) and factors that can influence the individual's decision to adopt quantified self-tracking wearable devices and self-monitoring practices were tested with an online survey of 129 university employees (faculty, administration) and students. Partial least squares path modeling was applied in an analysis to test nine hypotheses to validate the WAM. The factors in the individual context i.e. attitude plays a significant mediating role between the intention to use and the other influential factors of technology, implementation and risk context. The factors of the fashnology (wearability, aesthetic/design), individual (attitude) and risk context (privacy concern) tend to have strong and direct effects on the int use the devices, whereas factors of risk context (privacy and technology context (performance expectancy) moderate influence on the intention to use through Organizational facilitating conditions have a significant influence on the intention to use. Surprisingly, effort expectancy does not have any effect on attitude.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"29 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125691904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This issue especially occurs with current wearables tracking the user's activity and vital data. Typical reasons include the short battery life and the fact that the body-worn tracking device may be doffed. Other reasons, such as technical issues, can corrupt the data and render it unusable. In this paper, we introduce a data imputation concept which complements and thus fixes incomplete datasets by using a new merging approach that is particularly suitable for assessing activities and vital data. Our technique enables the dataset to become coherent and comprehensive so that it is ready for further analysis. In contrast to previous approaches, our technique enables the controlled creation of continuous data sets that also contain information on the level of uncertainty for possible reconversions, approximations, or later analysis.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125147043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This preliminary study explores various methods of human accent recognition through classification of locale. Classical, ensemble, timeseries and deep learning techniques are all explored and compared. A set of diphthong vowel sounds are recorded from participants from the United Kingdom and Mexico, and then formed into a large static dataset of statistical descriptions by way of their Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) at a sample window length of 0.02 seconds. Using both flat and timeseries data, various machine learning models are trained and compared to the scientific standard Hidden Markov Model (HMM). Results through 10 fold cross validation show that a vote of average probabilities between a Random Forest and Long Short-term Memory Neural Network result in a classification accuracy of 94.74%, outperforming the speech classification standard Hidden Markov Model by a 5% increase in accuracy.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128268838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primary symptoms of the disease are associated with the loss of motor skills affecting patients' movement and coordination and disrupting their daily life. Unfortunately, such motor symptoms cannot be fully relieved by therapeutic options. On the other hand, studies have shown that regular training and exercising can prove neuroprotective in PD patients helping them maintain independent longer. Based on recent studies stating that computer-based physical therapy games can be used as an option for facilitating PD rehabilitation exercise programs, we present the development of a body motion based videogame, using the Kinect sensor, targeted for PD patients. We tested twelve patients with advanced forms of PD motor symptoms (UPDRS motor score>20) and six initial stage PD patients (UPDRS motor score<20). All participants underwent an (UPDRS) motor skills pretest and afterwards performed three training sessions. In this paper, we will present part of our research aiming to analyze the movement patterns of PD patients in order to detect statistical significant differences between groups of different impairment level based on their UPDRS motor score and their performance. Consequently, we adopt a deep learning approach by analyzing the recorded human skeleton sequences for predicting the players' level of motor skills decline. Such methods and data can serve as preliminary evidence for further larger and controlled studies to propose such an exergame that can independently detect and adapt its difficulty level to better match players' ability providing a more targeted and personalized rehabilitation option.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131939029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a method for automatic recognition of the soundscape quality of urban recordings. Towards this end, the ATHens Urban Soundscape has been used, which is a dataset of audio recordings of ambient urban sounds, annotated in terms of the corresponding perceived soundscape quality. In order to automatically recognize the soundscape quality, both hand-crafted and deep features have been adopted. Experimental results have demonstrated that the performance of the final classifier that combines hand-crafted and deep context-aware audio features is boosted by almost 2%.","PeriodicalId":264425,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 12th ACM International Conference on PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133247660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
