The purpose of the study was to provide clinicians with a new approach for evaluating complicated cases. The study subject was a 59 years old house wife who had long history of sufferance since she had a major car accident 22 years ago. The patient was evaluated by the expert in the field in collaboration with a medical doctor aiming to help the patient to overcome the sufferance. The new evaluation approach was satisfactory in addressing patient’s needs and in resolving many of unexplained symptoms. It has been concluded that Total Assessment- Reassessment & Evaluation using bioKinesiologic (TAREK) approach is feasible but robust in providing clinicians with a systematic way for resolving longstanding complicated sufferance.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"49 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121288019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over 2.13% of the whole populace of India is confronting with various levels of difficulties in everyday life. Assistive Technology (AT) can empower such populace to bring social equity. Assistive devices like smart wheelchair are the rehabilitation advances which are basic requirement of such disabled populace. Disabled populace can have better quality of life if they are assisted with smart wheelchair. Smart wheelchair not just helps the disabled populace to lead a normal life but defeats their inability. In India, statistics shows that disabled populous are more in rural areas. The fundamental reason behind this larger percentage in rural area is absence of best practices in assistive devices in rural area. The reasons are lack of information of smart wheelchair due to lack of education and poor financial conditions. Advances in smart wheelchair have opened a number of opportunities to help such disabled populace. This paper basically concentrates on the possibilities of the smart wheelchair with minimal cost with advanced sensor technology as effective rehabilitation technology for the Indian disabled population.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123655545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cross-sectional single tertiary medical center survey study aimed to investigate how multiple pain sites contribute to the construct of general pain in fibromyalgia. Altogether 266 women with fibromyalgia aged 18 to 60 years were included in the analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis of pain severity measured by a visual analogue scale (0 to 100 points) in seven major body regions. Headache, low back pain, and neck pain explained most of the total variance in general pain perceived across seven different body regions. Substantial correlations of 0.71, 0.68, and 0.61 were found between general pain and headache, low back pain, and neck pain, respectively. Pain reported for other four regions (chest, abdomen, upper extremity, and lower extremity) demonstrated fair correlations with general pain. When experiencing multi-site pain, women with fibromyalgia perceived headache, low back pain, and neck pain being subjectively more important than pain in other sites. While pain intensity and location commonly varies in fibromyalgia patients, it is important that one is aware of most common sites to be able to recognize fibromyalgia so that it can be managed properly.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114733002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chronic pain is an epidemic worldwide, with 1.5 billion people feeling its effects. In the United States, about 100 million individuals are estimated to suffer from chronic pain, costing the country billions of dollars in health care and lost work productivity each year [1-3]. Massage, is the manipulation and kneading of muscles and joints of the body with the hands, especially to relieve tension or pain. Massage has been practiced for thousands of years and is commonly used for many types of chronic pain [4,5].","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"185 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131482071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This narrative review presents a high-level overview of the beneficial properties derived by practicing yoga, the specific physiological challenges associated with PTSD, and the medically significant relationship between yoga and PTSD diagnosis and symptoms as evidenced by published medical studies. Yoga practice is shown to improve emotion-regulation and decrease avoidance and emotional suppression. Yoga participants with post-trau-matic stress disorder show an improved ability to manage intense emotions while remaining focused on the present moment. These enhanced capabilities reduce the conditioned fear response, which is considered a crucial development in eliminating post-traumatic stress disorder. The focus of this review is primarily placed on a 10-week randomized control trial, 20-week case-series, and two long-term follow-up stud -ies. These qualitative and quantitative studies specifically evaluate the effects of trauma-sensitive yoga practice on treatment-resistant post-trau matic stress disorder. The three quantitative studies result in statistically significant outcomes and vary in treatment length. Special emphasis is placed on yoga practice frequency and duration in relation to the symptoms and diagnosis of treatment-resistant PTSD. Given that traditional treatment models for post-traumatic stress disorder have high drop-out rates and can contribute to symptom worsening, the promising results shown by yoga treatment for complex post-traumatic stress disorder are particularly notable and worthy of further research.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122118615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Throughout your career, you have worked with hundreds of men and women ranging from 16 to 85 years of age. Around the age of 45, you begin to experience occasional leaking of urine (urinary incontinence or UI) while teaching yoga classes. You are a “practice what you preach” kind of person, so you exercise regularly with the most effective, welltested modalities of yoga, Pilates, cardiovascular and strength exercises. Now, because you are leaking, you focus on mula bandha in your yoga practice, and you begin to perform “Kegel” exercises regularly. In spite of performing what you believe are corrective exercises for your issue, you begin to have constant pain and pressure in the region of your anus. You decide it is time to consult your health care provider, who recommends a colonoscopy, despite your young age and low risk profile. After the diagnostic procedure, the results come back completely normal. Both you and your physician are perplexed. In the meantime, your symptoms of urinary urgency and frequency increase, as well as pain and pressure in the anus and perineum.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131252017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considered as the fourth vital sign, acute or chronic pain requires early intervention, the anticipation of evolution, and assessment to achieve individualized treatment protocols. The acronym PLATTER (PLan, Anticipate, TreaT, Evaluate, and Return) [1], guides the professional for the establishment of analgesia, including in the area of physiotherapy. Following the acronym, the first stage involves planning. In a rehabilitation program, it refers to the choice, within the methods available, those suitable for that patient’s condition. For example, laser therapy (Figure 1) may be the choice for a feline with spine pain, as it is an easy and non-invasive method with good acceptance of the species. But for a dog that accepts manipulation, acupuncture associated with massage therapy (Figure 2) can bring the result of analgesia as quickly and pleasantly treatment [2].","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121509139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, these Veterans often have comorbid, overlapping posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms that further impact recovery. PCS include sleep disturbance, headaches, musculoskeletal pain, anxiety, dizziness/balance problems, fatigue, insomnia, impaired concentration and attention, memory problems, and increased irritability. Veterans with mTBI and PCS tend to have higher rates of unemployment and disability, report a decline in self-rated health and often suffer from anxiety and depressed mood. Multi-modal treatment options remain very limited. Emerging evidence supports the effectiveness of Tai Chi in improving physical and mental well-being, including many common PCS. Adverse events reported in Tai Chi studies tend to be on par with other exercise interventions. Despite this, potential health and physiological benefits of Tai Chi practice in Veterans with mTBI have not been investigated. Physiologically, TBI is associated with chronic autonomic dysregulation along with elevated levels pro-inflammatory cytokines causing neuroinflammation. Numerous studies have demonstrated decreases in pro-inflammatory immune markers following Tai Chi practice. In addition, Tai Chi studies of physiologic measures of noradrenergic function demonstrate short-term decreases in sympathetic tone, and overall greater parasympathetic outflow in Tai Chi practitioners. Given the vast potential for Tai Chi as a treatment modality for mTBI and associated comorbidities, controlled trials, especially in Veterans, are sorely needed.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133530506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
