However, yoga is rarely taught as a therapeutic practice in social work educational programs. This study examined social work students’ knowledge and interest in yoga as both a physical exercise and therapeutic approach. 213 social work students from two mid- to large- sized universities in a Midwest state completed a survey. The survey results showed that students are interested in participating in yoga as well as learning yoga as a therapeutic approach for their clinical practice. A few students noted concerns about cultural appropriation and using interventions to fit the individual client. Training in yoga as a therapeutic intervention could be added into existing social work programs to increase the ability of future social workers to provide this intervention to their clients.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121460072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Literature was searched through MEDLINE, Sports Medicine & Education Index, ERIC, Education Research Complete, and PyschInfo. The search criteria included children ages 3-22 diagnosed with autism, a yoga intervention that included physical postures, and at least one adult teaching. An initial total of 280 articles, including 27 duplicates were found. Nine papers met the inclusion criteria. Social and communication behaviors such as initiation, sensory response, and attention were evaluated. In seven of nine studies, positive behavioral results were reported. The results of this systematic review meet Every Student Succeeds Act’s Tier 1 of evidence and the National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorder’s criteria for evidence-based practice, indicating yoga has strong evidence to support its implementation as a behavioral intervention for children with autism.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129335084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, a recent survey found that 82% struggled with anxiety, 63% suffered with depression, and 60% had difficulty coping with stress in a healthy way [1]. Although college student distress is caused by multifaceted contextual and socioeconomic variables that require systemic changes; mindfulness interventions stand out as a promising way to reduce distress. Several studies have found significant effects of mindfulness interventions that are similar in magnitude to individual therapy for improving distress, depression, anxiety, and well-being [2]. Considering the pervasiveness of the distress among college students, universal mindfulness interventions (i.e., mindfulness training for all college students) could have sweeping effects on college campuses. With this in mind, the authors developed the Mindful Ambassador Program (MAP) to foster the well-being of college students in a feasible and costeffective way that can engage large numbers of students.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124428887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an instrument of evaluation, the vertical impulse tests with two variables, horizontal impulse test, maximum load test, body weight and circumference measurements. Tests were applied to twenty students of the Physical Education Course of the University of Santo Amaro, aged between 21 and 30 years. They performed two weekly sessions of the Leg Press 45º exercise every other day during a two-month period. The results demonstrated that there was increase of force, as well as improvement of the vertical impulse. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Leg Press 45º can be used not only to improve lower limbs strength but also for people who need improvement of vertical impulsion.","PeriodicalId":245236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Yoga and Physiotherapy","volume":"08 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128166042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
