But his originality in this field lies in the critical studies that have regularly accompanied his translations and in his reflection on the act of translation, developed in various essays and interviews. Departing from his conception of translation as a poetic activity, based on the distinction between the ‘translation of meanings’ and the ‘translation of the essence’, we approach the analysis of two poetic short stories, ‘Première ébauche d’une mise en scène d’Hamlet’, and ‘Hamlet en montagne’ included in L’heure présente (2011), which we approach both as ‘translations in a broad sense’, according to the definition proposed by the poet, as a prolongation and deepening of the understanding of the text through poetic writing, and as allegorical fictions of the process of translation.","PeriodicalId":240150,"journal":{"name":"Thélème. {"title":"Edouard Mesens, a Belgian forefather of the surreal movement in London 1936","authors":"María Pilar Abad García","doi":"10.5209/THEL.61063","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5209/THEL.61063","url":null,"abstract":"The article presents the birth and the origins of English surrealism. Hardly studied from its beginnings, its incipient manifestations began with the exhibitions and manifestations organized in London by the Belgian gallerist and writer Édouard Mesens, acquiring afterwards, insular and specific connotations through the work of surrealist English and Welsh artists and writers in the interwar period. Roland Penrose, Eileen Agar, Paul Nash, David Gascoyne, Humphrey Jennings, among others, consider that Paris is the cradle of the highest and most revolutionary manifestations of art in all its forms in that period of tense peace. After an accidental encounter in Paris, Roland Penrose and Édouard Mesens decide to introduce the Surrealist movement in England in 1936. The personal relations of Édouard Mesens with André Breton, Paul Éluard and Roland Penrose appointed Mesens representative of the English surrealist movement as Director of the London Gallery and editor of the London Bulletin, the official publication of surrealism in London. Besides, through different exhibitions, Édouard Mesens introduces the work of René Magritte and Paul Delvaux in the capital. At the same time, Mesens will take active part in the creation and development of the English surrealist movement and in 1944, he signed, together with J-B Brunius, the manifest “Idolatry and Confusion”. In 1947 the first declaration of the Surrealist Group in England appeared together with the first publications among which we can mention Message from Nowere, Fulcrum, Free Unions Libres or Surrealist transformation. The present article develops the relationship of all these literary and artistic manifestations and explains the connections between Belgian and English surrealism. It also analyzes and presents the work of the main artists, writers, and ideologues of English Surrealism. This constitutes the main and original contribution of this research paper.","PeriodicalId":240150,"journal":{"name":"Thélème. These novels, which have been adapted by Moshé Mizrahi (1931-) and Glenio Bonder (1956-2011), are part of a main saga called Solal and written by Albert Cohen (1895-1981). First, we will insist on the importance of cinema for the beginning of Albert Cohen’s work as a writer. Then, by comparing the films and the novels, we will observe the differences that had been necessary for such adaptations. Moreover, with this comparison, we will discover if the adaptations have succeeded in transmitting the universe that lies behind the novels.","PeriodicalId":240150,"journal":{"name":"Thélème. But if L2 acknowledges P, he does not accept the conclusion expected by L1, because conceder (to concede) generally implies a mais (but). Concéder (to concede)… mais (but) then opens the way to a concessive sequence introducing a conclusion Q2, which is different from conclusion Q1 resulting from P (the one expected by L1). In a pragmatic, semantic approach we show how, whilst raising disagreement on a point with an interlocutor, to concede introduces a part agreement, then a second disagreement with the interlocutor. The logical relationship reflecting this second disagreement between Q2 and Q1 will differ depending on the corresponding type of concessive – logical, corrective or argumentative.","PeriodicalId":240150,"journal":{"name":"Thélème. After having defined the three terms of the analysis, we proceed to the description of the concessive relation, which includes several predicates at a time. This complexity is fixed in the language through grammaticalization, as a form of freezing, by means of grammatical expressions used to structure the organization of the predicative relations in the utterance, whether sentencial or multi-sentencial. This fixation in the language declines the same concessive relation with semantic nuances that testify to the richness of this complex predication.","PeriodicalId":240150,"journal":{"name":"Thélème. On the one hand, this notion consists of the opposition of two paradigms, indefinites and personals, with which on shares semantical and syntactical characteristics. On the other hand, it reveals, by an internal opposition within the sign itself, the various notional components based on its potential meaning. Thus, the ordination of those components juxtaposes two categories: person and number. Those parameters appear under the form of discursive values or effective meaning. Furthermore, the position of these values is organized by a double tension movement that ranges from the 3rd to the 1st person and passes through the plural 3rd person and the double persons. This movement represents the potential meaning of on in language, illustrated by a radical binary tensor.","PeriodicalId":240150,"journal":{"name":"Thélème.
