A multi-agent programming paradigm and programming language, New Valid, is introduced. New Valid is designed as a tool for programming coordinated multi-agent computation systems. The coordinated computation paradigm is designed as a message flow programming system on the basis of a functional programming system. A history-sensitive computation feature, named agent, is introduced into a functional programming language, Valid. A model of mult-agent robot systems is proposed. The robot sytem is constructed as an ensemble of functions, each of which works as a coordinated independent agent through message communications. All sensory information put into robot is treated as messages. Several examples of multi-agent robot systems are shown.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115837865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, car driving is discussed from the point of view of intentions and actions of offline and online natures. Second, driving is discussed in terms of information used. Third, a cognitive structure of a driver is modeled by a tree which consists of situations such as physical environments, mental intentions and physical actions. Each transition between an upper level situation to an adjacent lower level on the tree is expressed by a set of if-then rules. A typical animation output from the cognitive simulator is demonstrated.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"214 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131947312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design of a FMS, by means of a conventional method becomes unmanageably complex. The object oriented design (OOD) methodology proposes to reduce the global complexity by modeling the real world through objects. OOD allows the development of reusable software components with open modular structures. The method proves efficient in industrial manufacturing requirements. It provides a satisfactory solution to the integration of alien components. The OOD methodology, object oriented programming and their respective features are introduced. Two experimental implementations are presented.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"703 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122986095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The characteristics of two popular implications (the min and the prod implications) and two widely used defuzzification algorithms (COA and MAX algorithms) are analyzed in terms of recoverability, change in fuzziness and reasoning strategy. With the aid of simulation of examples of fuzzy force control in milling. It is shown that not every combination of implication should be complemented only by a defuzzification such that the resultant interference mechanism does not increase the fuzziness substantially. A detailed comparitive analysis of the fuzzy milling force control approaches based on the min and prod implications and the COA and MAX defuzzifications are given.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122475099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The primer mover of the gearbox is a DC machine which is supplied by a chopper circuit. The elaboration and tuning of the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is based on a sliding mode control (SMC) approach. The results are presented in comparative terms among the FLC, SMC and the classical proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID). In this application, the FLC proves to be better than the PID because the PID is highly sensitive to the load changes (torque changes), while the FLC is almost insensitive.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131449010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A CAD/CAM/CAE system which satisfies these requirements is discussed. A correction method for mechanical errors and set position errors of a robot is provided. Set position error of a robot is the difference between the set position data which is made by CAD/CAM/CAE system versus the actual factory floor set position. Concerning the correction of mechanical errors, a method is developed that achieves the desired results easily without any measuring devices. By analyzing the deflection variation produced by different loads, the modulus of elasticity of individual linkages is found. The result is that the quantity of deflection, which is a nongeometrical parameter, is obtained.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133479737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recurrent neural networks can memorize robotic motions, i.e., trajectories of manipulators For this purpose, it is necessary to determine appropriate interconnection weights of the network. A new learning scheme for the recurrent neural networks by genetic algorithm (GA) is presented. The GA is applied to determine interconnection weights of the recurrent neural networks. The proposed approach is compared with backpropagation through time for recurrent neural networks. Simulation illustrates the performance of the proposed approach.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114816172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new mapping is introduced to the complex number field for the time-event information-states, which allows the algebraic representation to be readily manipulated numerically. The utility of this approach is illustrated with the MATLAB package and applied to an example. The application of the multi-faceted modeling approach to FMS type problems is demonstrated. A combination of Petri nets is used for high-level abstraction of the controlled processes. A minimax algebraic representation for restricted decision-free Petri nets is used as the modeling mechanism to combine both abstraction levels to produce a \"multi-model\" of the FMS. The model can then be used to analyze system performance.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":239174,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 2nd International Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation (ETFA '93)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124640624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
