Virtuoso is the most expensive of the four but it has the best user interface and its Spice-level circuit simulators provide very good accuracy. Also, it allows complete top-down design, from system- to circuit-level within the same environment. However, it may not be best suited for first-pass system-level analysis of switching circuits such as DC-DC converters due to its long simulation time and convergence issues. Numerical solvers such as MATLAB - Simulink and CppSim represent functional blocks by input-state-output relationships, thus avoiding the solving of large sets of simultaneous equations. This reduces dramatically the simulation time at the expense of poorer accuracy. SIMetrix/SIMPLIS converts non-linear models to a piecewise linear straight-line model achieving a fast simulation time for switching circuits. For a fair comparison, the same circuit was analyzed under the same conditions by using the four design environments; the trade-offs between cost, accuracy and simulation time are highlighted.","PeriodicalId":238901,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th IEEE International Symposium on Electronics and Telecommunications (ISETC)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122601538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These lines with single or segments of cables can be of asymmetrical or symmetrical constellations. Air borne, subterranean and subsea transmission lines are some of the variations found in practice. In any given grid, a combination(s) of all these types of cables can be found. Simulation studies of transmission line networks need among others, the accurate values of the parameters of the lines used in the network. In this paper, estimation methods are presented to compare the electrical parameters of some of these cable types. The impedance of a screened three phase cable is represented by a 3×3 matrix. Finally, measurement procedures are described to estimate the elements of the impedance matrix and the impedance associated with symmetrical components.","PeriodicalId":238901,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th IEEE International Symposium on Electronics and Telecommunications (ISETC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129226763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is supposed to offer high speed wireless access to the Internet by using very-wide-bandwidth radio channels for data access speeds up to 10Gb/s. Furthermore, other parameters that customers seem to need as quickly and as much are: high mobility, ubiquitous coverage, low latency, massive number of devices and low cost/energy consumption as it was discussed in other papers written on the same subject [1]-[5]. This paper intends to offer a solution to achieve coverage, speeds and low latency for massive access in an urban area. It was designed to support higher resolution video like FullHD and 4K, but the cost brought by the improved coding efficiency is a major increase in computational complexity. This paper proposes a new algorithm for intra mode decision in HEVC, targeting real-time video processing. Our method achieves a considerable complexity reduction in intra prediction. It reaches the optimal coding-unit size and angular mode decision with a pre-processing step designed to evaluate the texture. Using an adjusted histogram of oriented gradients, the algorithm selects the best choice in CU size and computes an estimate for the dominant edges. Testing performed on two test video sequences showed significantly lower encoding times for the same quality, compared to the original reference software.","PeriodicalId":238901,"journal":{"name":"2016 12th IEEE International Symposium on Electronics and Telecommunications (ISETC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129662466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
