Gorky, an outstanding representative of Russian neorealism. The objectives of the work are to clarify the definition of the cultural mythopoetic code of the East, to link the mythologems of the East and artistic consciousness, philosophy, aesthetics and imagery of Gorky's prose. The influence of the mythologems of the East on Gorky is considered in terms of Russian neorealism evolution, its artistic, ontological and aesthetic searches. The author identifies a diverse embodiment of the mythologems of the East in the form of motifs, archetypes, images in Gorky's works. The most significant results of the work are as follows. The description is given of the historical-literary and personal-biographical motives of Gorky's fascination with the Eastern cultural myth; the artistic types of Gorky's works generated by this fascination are established; the latter are presented in the context of his creative evolution. The approaches to Gorky's artistic and journalistic heritage, his epistolary works have given rise to an original view of the writer’s creativity and allowed us to broaden the existing ideas about the type of Gorky's artistic thinking. The paper gives a new evaluation to a number of well-known works. Gorky's artistery is considered in the context of neo-mythologism relevant to Russian prose of the XX century. The author has enriched scientific understanding of the complex phenomena in Russian literature in the first third of the XX century. The close and fruitful connections of Gorky's worldview and creative work with the myth of the East allowed us to see quite a different worldview and aesthetic guidelines of the writer, to understand his main aspiration, which is to answer the eternal questions of existence, the universe and the national character. The author considers foreign tourist guides to Belarus, published in 1994-2014, from the point of view of postcolonial theory and describes the ideological attitudes of colonial discourse, according to which Belarus is a passive object that is characterized by lack of development (backwardness), permanent dependence and victimhood. Such a representation strategy fits into the scheme of colonial discourse, the object of which is the Other, presented in the categories of local, ethnographic, backward (non-historical), non-independent, static. At the same time, it would seem that positive and innocent images strengthen ideological asymmetry and record the colonial image of the local population as primitive and submissive people. The representation of local residents in tourist texts as obedient and harmless romanticizes the image of a fearless and slightly naive savage, which is part of colonial discourse. Such a strategy of representation of Belarus and Belarusians is connected with the motives of cultural colonialism. The article describes the techniques by which these motifs are revealed: verb in a passive voice, multiple enumeration of words and expressions with negative connotations, use of various types of artistic trail, reception of comic. Nabokov's novel The Defense. Studying the biographical and chess contexts, analyzing the plot components of the novel related to the game, and taking into account the psychological aspects of the early XX century chess history, the authors prove that the versions of the main character's prototypes presented in previous studies of Nabokov's works are controversial. Among these prototypes are the chess players famous at different periods of the past, sharing only one thing with Nabokov's hero – a mental disorder at the end of his life. The authors of the article present and summarize new facts, not considered before, which are somehow reflected in the text of the novel, and the circumstances of the chess history and the world around it taking place at that time. This data became the basis for a new version that one of the prototypes of the protagonist's “chess impersonation” in the novel The Defense could be the Russian (and later Danish – by new citizenship) chess grandmaster Alexander Nimtsovich, whose life path crossed Nabokov's more than once. The famous chess opening “The Nimtsovich Defense” finds compositional and motif parallels in the corresponding scenes of the novel, and the narrator's reflection (close to the hero's reflection) on the specifics of playing chess is quite consistent with Grandmaster Nimtsovich's chess ideas, summarized by him in his book My System (1925). The structural components that make up the frame scenario of the concept “trade” are identified in these texts. Its value component characterizes the participants in the trade situation and the subjects of market relations. The comparison of the two linguocultures allows us to describe common semantic groups and those specific to Russian proverbs, such as Profit, Loss and Spending. The article demonstrates that the scenario of the concept “trade” in Russian and Chinese proverbs and sayings is presented as a multicomponent situation, denoted by the lexemes trade and bargaining in Russian and 买卖 mǎimai, 生意 shēngyi, 生意经 shēngyìjīng in Chinese. The Chinese texts are dominated by the nominative lexical expression of the participants in the situation, while the Russian paremics are dominated by the predicate: the four nominations of the seller, three nominations of the buyer and seven verbs in the Chinese paremics are contrasted with two nominations of the seller and twelve verbs in the Russian texts. The article concludes that a comparison of the seller's images in the two linguistic cultures shows a different degree of detailing their ethical characteristic – honesty. The Russian texts contain the ugly recommendation to “trade in truth”, while the Chinese texts contain a figurative recommendation to trade honestly, expressed in a negative construction (“one should not trade dishonestly”), and directly and figuratively indicating the cunning, deceitful nature of the seller, the image of the buyer in Russian texts is endowed with predominantly negative connotations. Akunin and M. Prishvin's story Ginseng. In the early 1930s, M. Prishvin participated in an expedition to the Far East. As a professional ethnographer and a highly skilled agronomist, the writer looked closely into the geocultural space of Manchuria. Personal contact with Manchurian nature and culture became a source of inspiration for M. Prishvin. Botanical, and seasonal climatic observations of Manchuria, naturalist notes about local animals, descriptions of how the taiga inhabitants live, resulted in a remarkable story Ginseng. Following his predecessor, B. Akunin also turned to the Manchurian theme in his novel Vremena Goda. The novel Vremena Goda features a similar story to Ginseng about the search for a relic root in the Manchurian wilds. The heroes of both works ended up in the land of Manchuria thanks to a kind Chinese elder, and having gone through many hardships, found the treasure of the forest - ginseng. The novelty of the article lies in the fact that the novel Vremena Goda has not yet become the subject of a detailed literary study, much less so its intertextual character. This article is the first to examine the dialogue between the two works Vremena Goda and Ginseng. The method of comparative analysis reveals similarities and B. Akunin's borrowings from the pretext of Ginseng, as well as his postmodern modification of original images. Based on M. Prishvin's work, B. Akunin created his own new plot about the search for ginseng. The found data help to expand the study of intertextual aspects of B. The peculiarity of the ethnolinguistic situation is due to the multinationality and the use of a large number of languages for everyday communication by citizens of Ukraine. The author gives a description of the national and linguistic situation, brings the analysis of the ethnic structure in accordance with the choice of the language of everyday communication. The controversial nature of language policy is the result of a fierce internal political struggle. The language issue was one of the key issues in all Ukrainian elections from 1989 to 2019. The language of everyday communication also has a great influence on the electoral behavior of citizens. The author's attention is focused on the use of linguistic and ethno-confessional contradictions by Ukrainian political forces waging a struggle for power. The analysis of the key regulatory legal acts that implement, to one degree or another, the state language policy. The author comes to the conclusion about a solid legislative framework necessary for the implementation of a language policy that takes into account the interests of all citizens of multinational Ukraine. But the adopted other contradictory laws and by-laws, as well as political contradictions both in the government and between the government and the opposition, create a conflict situation that negatively affects the socio-political situation in the country. Representatives of European states, primarily Hungary, gave a negative assessment to certain Ukrainian laws regulating language policy. Yanian","doi":"10.20323/2658-7866-2022-2-12-61-72","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20323/2658-7866-2022-2-12-61-72","url":null,"abstract":"This article studies the folk tale of ginseng eating and ascension to the Immortal, which originated in the early 17th century and published in the Northeastern Qilin (Manchu-Digo) magazine in 1943, and its reception in modern Chinese culture and science. Phytolatry as an inherent feature of the north-eastern Chinese religious consciousness is inseparable from the healing characteristics of ginseng itself. Since ancient times, people have attributed miraculous qualities to ginseng, among them gaining immortality by eating the root. Phytolatry is associated with animism and anthropomorphism – in fairy tales, myths and legends of Northeast China, the miracle root takes on human form, turning into an anthropomorphic spirit (a baby, a boy in a girdle, a Wise Old Man or a Beautiful Virgin) that gives immortality to the worthy. Only a special person, who honors the Taiga Law, is honored with this kind of grace. This publication fills the lacunae in the folklore studies of northeast China, which in the 1940s was developing in spite of the Japanese occupation, and often under the patronage of pro-Japanese publications. The authors conclude that the 1943 analysis of the “expeditionary tale” allows to trace the continuous development of the ginseng folklore image in Chinese culture from ancient times to almost the present day, reflecting the syncretized religious views of the multinational North-East residents, while this text and its publication reflect the unknown and controversial pages of Chinese folklore proper, not yet fully explored to this day. L. Ivanchenko “Monogram” and Mo Yan “Tired of Being Born and Dying” in the context of the Buddhist worldview of both authors. The images of the main characters, the chronotope, the themes and problems of the works are examined through the prism of the Buddhist attitudes presented in the books; and life strategies and escape strategies of the Russian and Chinese characters are compared. The reborn Ivanchenko and Mo Yan's characters overcome their karma and their family's karma by conquering affective conditions and coming to the end of the life cycle. They discover the conventional nature of a human's existence through the motif of mirroring (the Russian author) and proximity to the wildlife (the Chinese author). The protagonists in the Russian and Chinese novels are characterized by a complex structure of consciousness, which tends to multiply and reveal its illusory nature. Time in both novels is cyclical and virtually devoid of movement, despite the presence of the characters in the actual political history. The space of both books tends to turn into a myth, revealing images of eternity through the earthly specifics of the place: the heroine of “Monogram” is in the Buddhist “looking glass”, while the hero in “Tired of being born and dying” is in the manor, which is a model of mythological cosmos. The controversial history of China and Russia of the previous century, A. L.
