Reading on the other hand becomes one of the important sectors of language capability; thus, the purpose of this study was to analyze the affectivity of reading activity towards students’ level of learner autonomy. The study aims to reveal whether an extensive reading activity affects the readiness of becoming autonomous learners. Classroom observations and questionnaire were the primary tools of the study. A case study design was used in analyzing the data to gather in depth insight from the actual settings and participants. The results show that extensive reading activity affects students’ level of learner autonomy since it indirectly forces the students to understand the passage and practice in and outside the classroom context. This study was based on the cognitive theory of Tyler and Evans, namely the polysemy of prepositions and the categorizations of construal’s and senses were based on Brenda. The method used was primarily qualitative and the data were collected from two sources: The Indonesian data were taken from the library of a private university in Jakarta and the American data from two American websites; all of which were classified into prepositional phrases and clauses using the concordance software Antconc 3.4.1.0 developed by Anthony. Findings indicate that there are more construal’s and senses found in American master’s and doctoral theses than in Indonesian master’s and doctoral theses. A total of 132 data were used to describe the lingual form of the men’s metaphor, the metaphorical meaning of men’s metaphor and the image schema of men’s metaphor in Arok Dedes novel. This study used a qualitative descriptive method using a cognitive semantics theory. The findings in the first analysis of lingual form showed that there are 23 idiomatic phrases, 80 non-idiomatic phrases, 22 predicative clauses, and 7 non-predicative clauses. The concept of metaphorical meanings that formed are state, action, causation, purpose, time, change, and means. There are 56 metaphors with negative meanings, 37 metaphors with neutral meanings, and 39 metaphors with positive meanings. Thus, it can be concluded that this study shows the basic concepts of men in this novel are almost always considered superior and more highlighted than women. Based on the findings, this research can also expand reader’s knowledge about concepts of men and the equality of men and women. Each trademark contains meaning which can be revealed semiotically from its signs. This research were aimed to find out the semiotic signification process on five famous streetwear trademarks consist of Supreme, Gucci, Bape, Off-White, and Champion, to investigate the meaning of the icon and symbol in those streetwear trademarks, and to observe the aspect that one of the other trademarks more dominant. This research used qualitative research design. The data of this research were five famous streetwear trademark consist of Supreme, Gucci, Bape, Off-White, and Champion, also some comments of respondents that have been gathered by the writer by using open-ended questionnaire. The participant were Instagram users. The time duration of gathering respondents’ comments was one week. From the questionnaire, the writer found 127 respondents with their comments in one week through the open-ended questionnaire. In the research findings, the writer found that each of trademarks have signifier and signified with denotative and connotative meaning. The writer also found 5 icons and 5 symbols in 5 famous streetwear trademark consist of Supreme, Gucci, Bape, Off-White, and Champion which deliver some messages to their consumers. The result from open-ended questionnaire, the writer found that Off-White was dominantly chosen by the respondents. The writer also found that most of respondents chose their favorite brand based on the brand design. In conclusion, there is a significant effect between the design of the trademark/brand and the consumer interest. The quantity and quality of language skills can be measured from the quantity and quality of vocabulary mastered. The lack of research on the vocabulary of elementary school students is the basis of this research. The purpose of the research is to find out and describe two things, i.e. the types of vocabulary in the narrative essays of elementary school students and the suitability of vocabulary with the development of elementary school students. The research uses a qualitative approach, and the method used is descriptive method. Data analysis techniques used is direct element analysis techniques. From 16 essays, 650 words are found with the frequency of use of 2520 words. After conducting the analysis on the types of vocabulary, the findings are as follows: there are 216 basic words, 126 borrowed words, and 74 function words. From the narrative essays written by elementary school students, the words used are relatively in accordance with the development of student age. This is evident from 650 words only 10 of them are considered as words normally used by adult speakers. This paper reports research on the interlanguage grammar (ILG) in English finite clauses produced by multilingual students who speak Indonesian (L1), French (L3), and English (L2). The paper will describe the variations and the causes of the emergence of the variation of ILG in English finite clauses structures. The research used the Minimalist Program, which is the syntactic theory of Generative Grammar to explain finite clause in English. To examine the variation of interlanguage grammar in the multilingual students, the research adopted a qualitative approach, employing grammaticality judgment technique with multiple choice test type. The participants consisted of 25 students who had reached A2 level in French. The results showed that variations in ILG have been caused by lack of knowledge or lack of mastery of functional category Infl(ection) with its relevant features as the head element in English finite clauses. Jassin’s short stories. The stories pointed out their specific didactics. As one of the literary learning materials, the didactics of the stories infer high relevance towards the national education goals. A qualitative approach was employed in conjunction with the framework of literary works didactic theories. The stories to analyze were: 1) “Kalau Pandai Ia Berkata (Merdeka, 1966), 2) “Darah Laut” (Djawa Baru, 1944), 3) “Antara Si Lemah” (Poedjangga Baroe, 1941). The findings indicated that the stories were full of didactic values. The values consisted of dignified personality, well-mannered behavior, critical thinking ability, self-control, responsibility, independence, sincerity, bravery, and creativity. Those values could be delivered to students through literacy dimension learning strategies: 1) brainstormin writing ideas, 2) character development in writing and 3) problem posing. While presentation is one of the speaking activities that takes place in front of many people by giving information about particular topics to improve communication skills. Learning materials used in this study are Japanese for finance. Method used in this study is experiment methods. The sample is twenty people of XI grade Vocational School students majoring in accounting in Bandung Timur. Study instrument used is oral test. Based on study results, pretest average gain before using presentation discussion method is very low. Posttest average gain increased after using presentation-discussion technique. The result also shows that learning to speak Japanese for Vocational School students using presentation discussion technique is effective.
