The degree of crystal-lattice expansion is analyzed. The properties of the original InSe single crystals and the two-fold or four-fold expanded crystals are examined. Moreover, we analyze the effect of quantum capacity on the process of current passage in case of the two-fold expanded InSe<NaNO2> clathrate under a constant magnetic field. {"title":"New dispersion-compensated Raman-amplifier cascade with a single-pump parametric amplifier for dense wavelength-division multiplexing","authors":"Gunpriya Kaur, G. Kaur, Shukriti Sharma","doi":"10.3116/16091833/21/1/35/2020","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3116/16091833/21/1/35/2020","url":null,"abstract":"In this work a dispersion-compensated Raman amplifier has been cascaded with a single-pump parametric amplifier to build a dense wavelengthdivision multiplexed (DWDM) system. This hybrid system demonstrates a flat gain in the L-band. Our hybrid has been evaluated for a 25 GHz 96-channel system at 40 Gbps in the band spreading from 189 to 191.375 THz. The results demonstrate the gain larger than 16.9 dB and the gain ripple less than 5.82 dB, with no gainflattening technique used. The novelty of our design lies in combining dispersion compensation with signal amplification in a long-length Raman-amplifier fibre followed by a short-length parametric amplifier implemented on a separate highly nonlinear fibre. For the data rate 10 Gbps, the achievable gain ripple is as low as 1.9 dB, without any gain-compensation technique. The optical signal-to-noise ratio larger than 18 dB and the flat gain confirm that our Raman fibre-optic parametric amplifier can be used as a tunable and broad-gain amplifier for the future long-haul DWDM systems. The results obtained for our system have been compared with those of the L-band optical amplifiers developed recently. We analyze Raman lasing bandwidth for TiO 2 -doped single-mode fibre as a function of pumping power, following from modelling of the gain profile, and compare it with that typical for an etalon Raman (GeO 2 -doped) fibre. The both Raman gain profiles are quantified using the spontaneous Raman cross-sections derived with an original spectroscopic method. Extremely high accuracy of the multimode Gaussian decomposition is obtained for the Raman gain profiles. As a result, the Raman gain profiles can be presented in analytical form. A threshold spectral Raman profile is introduced and the lasing bands in the both single-mode fibres are simulated numerically. It is aimed at identification of different chemicals using terahertz-range electromagnetic signals. Software based on a full-vectorial finite-element method is used to design this fibre and explore its propagation characteristics. By filling the core air hole with aqueous analytes and tuning different designing parameters at 2.4 THz, one can achieve the maximal relative sensitivities 98.5, 98.2 and 97.6% respectively for benzene, ethanol and water analytes. Moreover, the confinement loss and the bulk material loss as low as 1.64×10 cm and 0.004 cm can simultaneously be obtained under optimal conditions. The fibre suggested by us can be easily manufactured using modern fabrication techniques. The luminescence has been excited using either a continuous-wave He–Cd laser with the wavelength λex = 325 nm (i.e., under the condition hvex > Eg for the photon energy) or a semiconductor laser with λex = 532 nm (i.e., hvex < Eg). We show that the temperature dependences of intensity, spectral position and half-width of a green photoluminescence band detected in the both alternative cases are very different in the region 12–80 K. However, their behaviours become very close to each other when the temperature increases up to 180 K. The particular branches in need of this reproduction range from colour printing to artistic fields. In order to improve the reconstruction accuracy for the spectral reflectance, we suggest a spectral-reflectance reconstruction method based on a mixed weighting (MW). This method is a combination of a number of earlier techniques, namely a Wiener estimation method and so-called methods of weighting on a group with smaller colour difference and weighting on a group with smaller spectral reflectance error. Specifically, we have obtained the spectral estimation with higher reconstruction accuracy by weighting the reconstruction spectra obtained by different methods. The weights for these methods have been selected through minimizing the colour difference. The MW method makes a full use of advantages of the underlying methods. It reveals high accuracy and reduces the shortcomings of those methods.
