The dynamics of this effect is unclear in the literature. Based on the knowledge-based view and theory of intellectual capital, this research establishes a theoretical model to test the interrelationships among R&D investment, intellectual capital, organizational learning, and firm performance. We obtained seven years’ panel data from two data centers, and applied mediation and moderation models to investigate the interrelationships. Our findings showwhile intellectual capital fully mediates the relationship between R&D investment and firm performance, organizational learning moderates the relationship between R&D investment and human capital. Our results show the important roles of intellectual capital and organizational learning in enhancing the effectiveness of R&D investment.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"32 1","pages":"1196 - 1216"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88300521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This exploratory literature review explores three strategic elements of organisational performance, with an intention of identifying if factors linking between the performance elements exist. Specifically, this research investigates the strategic expressions of Quality Management Systems, Organisational Agility and Innovative Performance. The structure of this paper first looks at how the Quality Management System interacts with an organisation’s performance objective. This is followed by a review literature pertaining to innovative performance as well as the consequences and attributes of organisational agility. Finally, a concluding analysis outlines potential areas of correlation between the organisational performance factors and avenues for continued research. This study contributes directly to organisational performance literature as well as practical implementations by providing a context for how the three strategic performance elements may interact.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"5 1","pages":"1096 - 1107"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74707905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Operational Excellence (OpEx) methodologies are widely used by industries and are one of the primary proposed solutions for the energy sector. However, in the energy sector, the literature lacks knowledge on the proper OpEx methodology approach. This study evaluates the status quo of the applications of OpEx methodologies in the energy sector and identifies the factors for a systematic approach. The systematic review identified 32 articles from six well recognised libraries. Consequently, the review helped the authors identify the current OpEx methodologies, publication themes, trends, gaps, and mitigation for future research. Furthermore, a bunch of benefits, motivating factors and limitations of OpEx methodologies’ application in the energy sector are presented. The complete work sets the foundation for practical and useful deployment of OpEx methodologies for the sector, which can enable the leadership to make robust decisions for business operations. This study is a comprehensive systematic literature review covering an important sector.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"24 1","pages":"1173 - 1195"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86375174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since these teams are more present in companies, a performance measurement system must get adapted to fulfill the gap of not having a vast theory about the subject. To fill that gap, this paper brings results from previous steps in the research (Systematic Literature Review and Qualitative analysis of the data). It presents to a group of experts to reach a consensus on which capabilities are essential to managing/developing distributed teams’ performance. The experts were exposed to the information following a Delphi Panel format and provided output that reached consensus and refined the list. The experts indicated that a group of six capabilities (engagement, development of a culture of performance measurement, organizational learning, alignment between planning and execution, accurate information and consistency) are essential to have their performance measurement system working correctly and reaching all functions. The work also identified the success factors for virtual teams, providing directions for the adoption and the monitoring of this kind of team that gained importance during the COVID-19 pandemic.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"8 1","pages":"1071 - 1095"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85994126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research analyzes the critical success factors (CSFs) for implementing OPEX initiatives in manufacturing organizations through the utilization of a meta-analysis technique. Thirty studies were found to be relevant for the meta-analysis. The findings of the study suggest that OPEX implementation in manufacturing organizations is positively and strongly influenced by employee involvement, training and education, management commitment and involvement, and required resources to implement operational excellence. Further, OPEX is moderately influenced by leadership, project prioritization and selection, organizational culture, effective communication, customer relation, supplier relation, performance management and reward system, and teamwork. The findings also suggest that four moderators, namely location of the study, size of the firm, topic of the study, and publication year of the study also have a significant positive relationship for all of the CSFs. A comprehensive study of the CSFs for OPEX initiatives becomes imperative in this context. This research provides a better understanding of CSFs leading to successful OPEX implementation in a manufacturing environment and contributes to the body of knowledge for the OPEX research and practitioner community, especially for OPEX deployment in non-manufacturing sectors.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"655 1","pages":"1152 - 1172"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86542659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Qualitative interviews were conducted with 22 Micro Enterprises in Ireland that have started Lean implementation over the last three years. Lean offers many benefits to Micro Enterprises similar to those observed in larger-sized enterprises, including improved productivity, quality and reduced costs. In addition, leadership support for Lean in Micro Enterprises is not a challenge for Lean deployment as many Micro Enterprises are owner-managers and thus embrace and facilitate the deployment of Lean in organisations. Furthermore, a Critical success factor for Lean in Micro Enterprises is government support and availability of Lean mentorship. Further longitudinal studies on Micro Enterprises would help study how Lean evolves in these organisations over time especially in enterprises who have employed Lean for several Leans. This is one of the first studies specific to the practical application of Lean in ME’s in Ireland and globally. For academics and practitioners and informing government funding policy, this study demonstrates that Lean can successfully be deployed in Micro Enterprises. This study demonstrates that government supports can aid Lean and enhance economic competitiveness.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"16 1","pages":"1032 - 1051"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90237244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, manufacturing units need to deal with huge data sets to sustain the quality of products. In this regard, Data-Driven Sustainability Quality Management (DDSQM) is an interdisciplinary approach that provides an understanding of big data management with due quality and sustainability in manufacturing settings. Regardless of its potential benefits, manufacturing firms in developing economies remain reluctant to follow DDSQM practices. To persuade organizations for adopting DDSQM practices in real-time needs to explore the enablers with their contextual relationship for its successful initiation. In the present study, DDSQM enablers are identified and screened through literature and expert opinions from manufacturing industries. Thereafter, screened enablers are modeled through Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) and clustered via MICMAC analysis. The proposed methodology was executed with experts from academics and industries in developing economies. This study constitutes the first strive to explore the contextual relationship among enablers of DDSQM practices in developing countries’ manufacturing industries. The findings can help policymakers of emerging economies to adopt data analytics, quality management, and sustainable practices, that in turn, facilitate the implementation of DDSQM practices.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"115 1","pages":"870 - 893"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73416299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study is to propose a method for effective assessment of optimal SLSS projects. The importance weight of project selection criteria and prioritization of available projects are calculated using the novel best-worst-method (BWM) approach. The proposed methodology was authenticated through a real case example. The outcome reveals that out of five SLSS projects, P1 is the optimal project. Project P1 is the most significant production line for deploying the SLSS in case organization. The optimality in project ranking is tested through sensitivity analysis, the outcome noticed minimum sensitivity that claimed robust findings. This study is to be unique as there was very little evidence of prioritizing SLSS projects by utilizing a large set of criteria and applying the BWM approach. Further, BWM is the most suitable and reliable approach for prioritizing the alternatives when a large number of criteria are involved and it provides consistent outcomes with fewer inputs. The applied methodology will help top management to select the right project and opportunities in complex situations. Decision-makers and LSS consultants can also adopt the same approach for effective assessment of optimal SLSS projects for sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"17 1","pages":"990 - 1014"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88320054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, gaps in current literature are identified, and an agenda for future research is developed. The research is based on a systematic literature review of 111 papers that were published in academic journals between 2015 and 2021. In contrast to previous reviews, we focus on constituting elements of Lean Management and Industry 4.0 to offer a perspective closely related to practical implementations. The findings suggest Total Productive Maintenance as one exemplary constituting element representing the ‘what’ level and Change Management as a discipline with answers concerning the ‘how’ level. The paper offers a holistic view for practitioners facing the need for an integrated implementation of Industry 4.0 and Lean Management. Prevalent themes can be included in organisational transformation efforts to increase success rates in change projects. Deriving gaps in the current literature and developing an agenda for future research focused on operational concepts offers possibilities for further research with high practical relevance.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"35 1","pages":"1052 - 1069"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90429458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first conclusion is that universities are more likely to locate their scientific productivity on a standalone campus than in a multi-campus system when the knowledge effect is more favorable. To make a contribution to industry and collaboration, universities are more likely to locate their scientific productivity in a multi-campus system. The second conclusion is that after controlling for endogeneity bias, the mean of academic performance for scientific productivity on a standalone campus is higher than it is on a multi-campus system. The third conclusion is that locating innovation activities in either a standalone or multi-campus system under theoretically appropriate conditions increases academic performance. These findings pose interesting challenges for knowledge management in innovation through a university’s location decision.","PeriodicalId":23149,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Management & Business Excellence","volume":"14 1","pages":"930 - 958"},"PeriodicalIF":3.9,"publicationDate":"2022-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78874083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
