In this paper, we investigate optical SSK (OSSK) system under the combined effects of atmospheric turbulence (AT) and pointing error (PE). We introduce an analytical framework to obtain average pair-wise error probability and average bit error rate of OSSK scheme. It is observed that for small PE jitter, degradation in error performance is very small, while for high PE jitter, the degradation is significantly high. Furthermore, the effect of PE with moderate and strong AT conditions is more dominant than the weak AT condition. Also, the performance of the OSSK system under strong and moderate AT regimes remains same, which makes the considered system nearly independent of turbulence between moderate to strong turbulence conditions.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117259821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sensor nodes are deeply buried under the ground and randomly deployed in a square sensing area. Through two simulation scenarios, we investigate the path connectivity between two arbitrary sensors under various settings of soil moisture, sensor's density and operating frequency, and sensing area. It is shown that the water content in soil remarkably changes the influence of other factors on path connectivity. The results obtained in this paper provide useful guidelines on the design of reliable wireless underground sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129236289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna covers the ISM band for SRDs with a center frequency of 2.45 GHz. There are eight Yagi-Uda antennas combined in a circle form. Each Yagi-Uda antenna consists of a bended reflector, a bended driven and a bended director. The bended reflector is shared for different Yagi-Uda antenna by PIN diodes. Simulated results show that eight switching beams covered all directions in E plane with particular direction beam-width around of 60 degree. The gain of the main lobe is greater than 5.5dBi, whereas the side lobe is kept 11dB smaller than the main lobe. Thanks to the pattern switchable ability and its simple design, the antenna can be used for the master sensors in wireless sensor networks, or for communicating devices in cognitive radios.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121564615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic idea of the proposed method is that smoke is grayish and nonrigid object, it normally creates chaos information in image. The new approach includes three steps, the pre-processing step to reduce noise as well as to divide the image into small blocks, the determining candidate smoke objects step using smoke color detection and slow motion detection, and the analysing smoke objects step using Co-occurrence matrix to extract data from candidate smoke objects. The experiment results on wildfire smoke videos show that Co-occurrence matrix can be used to extract smoke features and it can be combine with other extracting features method to improve the accuracy of the wildfire smoke detection method.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123439482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

General requirements for an antenna used for WPT systems are high directivity and narrow beamwidth. This paper presents the design, simulation and fabrication of microstrip patch antenna arrays for close-range WPT systems. Various antenna prototypes such as single patch, 2×2, 2×4, 4×8 and 8×8 microstrip patch antenna arrays working at 2.45 GHz are proposed. The 2×4 microstrip patch antenna array is fabricated and measured using Anritsu 37364D Vector Network Analyzer and NSI2000 Nearfield System. Measurement results show that the fabricated antenna obtains a directivity of 14.7 dBi and a 3 dB beamwidth of 23.2 degree. The experiment with the WPT system is carried out. This paper also presents structure of a WPT system and the role each building block in the system.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128879176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, the signal bandwidth of UWA communication systems is very limited. Thus, optimizing the bandwidth efficiency of the system is also an important target in designing synchronization methods for UWA communications. For combating the above-mentioned problems as well as to increase the spectrum efficiency of the system, this paper proposes a time synchronization method for OFDM-based underwater acoustic communication systems. Instead of the using preamble, we use only the guard interval (GI) for the time synchronization. Hence, there is no additional redundancy for synchronization that is requested for the proposed method. Experimental and simulation results show that the proposed time synchronization method outperforms some conventional algorithms used for UWA communication systems.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128907463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For CS-based MRI, random sampling is often implemented in the k-space and depends on the uniform distribution and energy distribution of MRI images in the k-space. In contrast, we propose a new deterministic sampling method for CS-based MRI using the logistic map, which has good statistical properties and can be easily converted to uniform-like chaotic sequences. Simulation results confirmed that the proposed method is equivalent to state-of-the-art methods in terms of the relative root-mean-square error and the probability of exact reconstruction.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"297 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113985243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, SVD is used to optimal aligning of two minutia sets. Then, based on the newly obtained overlapping area, we introduce a post-processing step to collect previously missing minutiae pairs due to nonlinear distortion. The overall advantages of our method are compared and tested in standard FVC databases in terms of RMS error, the average number of aligned minutia pairs and ROC curve of verification systems.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127076052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is high time to develop network techniques and applications in broadband communications over the gigabit satellite and the high throughput satellite (HTS). In this paper, we introduce a high-speed data transfer protocol, named high-performance and flexible protocol (HpFP), to achieve high throughput over a geostationary satellite link even in severe weather conditions. The HpFP is firstly evaluated on a laboratory experiment simulating a geostationary orbit satellite link. It is clarified that the HpFP shows high throughputs even when the packet loss ratio (PLR) is 0.01%. We next carry out a field experiment using the Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite (WINDS). The performance of the HpFP over single, dual, and multiple connections are evaluated. The result shows that the aggregate throughput of dual connections of HpFP almost reaches to the maximum bandwidth, and the time to the maximum bandwidth is within 3 sec which is over 20 times faster than that by the TCP. For multiple connections, the HpFP shares the bandwidth equally among all 50 connections.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121937677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we propose a microfluidic device, which facilitated of a differential capacitively coupled contactless conductively detection (DC4D) coplanar capacitor structure and a dielectrophoresis (DEP) concentrator based on circular electrodes for detecting of living cells. With the proposed device, first, the target and non-target cells are guided toward the center of the working chamber due to the dielectrophoresis forces. Then the target cells are captured by the electrode covered with aptamers, which possess a high affinity to the target cells. After being flushed to wash away the non-target cells in the working chamber, the differential capacitance is read to identify the presence of target cells. Numerical simulations of the DEP manipulation and DC4D were performed to proof the concept of the proposed design. A prototype of the proposed device was fabricated using micromachining technology. Manipulation and sensing performances of the device were investigated. The evaluation results show that the capacitance output changes up to 3fF corresponding to the presence of about twenty-five cells captured at the electrode.","PeriodicalId":225413,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122019885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
