People with higher self-efficacy are more likely to engage in an undertaking and persist whenever faced with obstacles. This study sought to explore students’ state of perceived self-efficacy in online learning as a result of the emergency remote transition (ERT) to curtail the spread of COVID-19. The four sources of information about self-efficacy were examined: (1) physical and emotional states; (2) vicarious experiences; (3) forms of persuasion and (4) enactive mastery experiences. To investigate the latter, student responses to the survey item “Considering everything involved with this learning experience, how has it informed your views about using online teaching and learning in the future?” were qualitatively coded to deduce their perceived level of self-efficacy related to mastery. Three major themes emerged: (1) direct feelings toward online learning; (2) perceived challenges of online classes; and (3) other student-related factors focused around well-being. A strong preference for onsite learning was evident among student responses. Logistical concerns related to internet stability, dedicated study spaces, and teacher and peer communications were also prevalent. Physical and emotional states were also a concern as well as loss of real-time feedback and guidance. These factors, among others, may have affected student self-efficacy in online learning as a result of transitioning to emergency remote teaching.","PeriodicalId":225253,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Modern Educational Technology","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130213710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the effectiveness of RALL within the context of an English speaker learning a tonal language such as Mandarin Chinese has been minimally researched. This manuscript presents a quasi-experimental study on the comparison of a multimodal virtual agent and embodied robot in influencing an adult English speaker's ability and interest in learning spoken Mandarin Chinese by carrying out a dialogue-based language learning activity. Half of the study participants were placed in a “control” group, tested with a completely virtual agent. The remainder were placed within an “experimental” group, tested with a physical robot. Participants interacted with three modes: translation, chat, and quiz of the bilingual chatbot Qilin. This was followed by the completion of a survey with 10-point rating scales and a qualitative question detailing their experience. Qilin utilizes speech services offered by the Google Cloud platform along with visual, auditory, and kinetic indicators according to respective operative agents. Favorability towards the physical embodiment of the robot resulted in higher levels of engagement and lower levels of perceived discouragement when interacting with the physical agent even though the speech and audio functions were identical for the virtual agent. The nonnative tones of the speakers and the polyphonic characters of Mandarin Chinese primarily contributed to levels of discouragement. An analysis of initial results and suggestions of future works is provided to foster research in Chinese RALL for English speakers.","PeriodicalId":225253,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Modern Educational Technology","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127188457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data collection method consisted of conducting a survey with 52 pre-university students from Batch 16 who are currently enrolled in English Preparation Courses at the Ho Chi Minh Campus of FPT University. The findings of the study led to the discovery and subsequent drawing of the conclusion that students' perceptions are significantly influenced by the written comments of their instructors. Students placed a very high level of importance on receiving feedback from their instructors, as they regarded it as the factor that had the most impact on how much they improved. In addition, students put a larger value on information and lecturer feedback than they did on their results. This enabled them to enhance both their content and their language as they were in the process of learning. In addition, students were not aware that their teachers had provided them with any unfavorable feedback. However, the manner in which various lecturers deliver feedback and the characteristics of the students themselves will determine whether the input is perceived by the students as being detrimental or beneficial.","PeriodicalId":225253,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Modern Educational Technology","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125317630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At present, with the growing requirements for graduates of pedagogical universities and the search for ways of high-quality preparation for multilingualism, it becomes relevant to review the existing practices of teacher training. One of the solutions may be the formation of students' linguo-informational competence in CLIL-classes, as an interconnected study of the content of the subject and a foreign language based on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The purpose of the study is to test the effectiveness of using ICT in CLIL-classes. Based on the results of the study conducted at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Abai University), there is proposed an educational technology based on the active use of ICT tools, blended learning and methodologically based on the principles of content and language integrated learning CLIL, communicative-activity and competence-based approaches. The paper describes Internet tools, the use of which in CLIL-classes will contribute not only to familiarization or review of the information being studied using audio or video materials, but to expand and deepen the content through the use of foreign language web tools. Therefore, fundamental computer skills developed on the basis of ICT tools can help students to master new material.","PeriodicalId":225253,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Modern Educational Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131375283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work focuses on the problem of school failure of children with a violation of reading and writing. The authors of the article wonder how the use of digital technologies, despite the unfavorable course of ontogenesis (the presence of difficulties in pedagogical and organic genesis, the asynchronism of cognitive processes and difficulties in building an effective interaction) will have an impact on increasing the resilience of children with dyslexia. The article addresses the problem of asynchronism of cognitive processes and emotional intelligence of children with dyslexia through the prism of using digital educational technologies as a means of achieving personal resilience. The methodological basis of our study was a system-activity approach, which provides deep analyzing of the personality. The system-activity approach allows us to consider personality as a system of interconnections of all structural components of personality (development of cognitive processes, emotional-will sphere, personality abilities). We can see all the diversity of personality and in particular its resilience to overcoming various life difficulties through the prism of activity. We consider the personal responsiveness of children with dyslexia through the organization of correctional activities. The paper presents the results of an empirical study of such cognitive processes as memory, phonematic perception and attention, as well as the level of development of interpersonal emotional intelligence and intra-personal emotional intelligence, contains data from the results of a formative experiment using digital educational technologies. In the process of analyzing the results of the study, the authors concluded that dyslexia correction should be carried out on the basis of a systemic-activity approach and include not only correction of specific errors made by the child during reading and writing, but also work on the development of cognitive processes and interpersonal emotional intelligence. Authors were able to identify the positive effect of the use of digital education (hardware and software complex \"BOS-health\" and speech therapy simulator with digital software \"Delfa - 141.2\") the development of cognitive processes such as attention and memory, which in turn contributed to a decrease in the number of specific errors made by the children with dyslexia when writing letters related to omissions and insertions of letters and words.","PeriodicalId":225253,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Modern Educational Technology","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132288778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to this situation, the researchers have suggested the development of a platform in which users can have access to a wide array of information regarding plants and learn on how to maintain them, as well as to have the opportunity to buy or sell plants in a consumer-to-consumer marketplace. This research provides an understanding on the effectiveness of the development of a B2C e-commerce website with plant filtering and learning materials to aid plant enthusiasts in their cultivating plants journey. Findings show on the evaluation of the answers of the respondents that the developed system is a more notable and viable choice by how it stands out in error-handling, system design, and as well as other key features. Additionally, intensive research and analysis is recommended when inserting values into the database to improve reliability on the results returned by the website based on the user input.","PeriodicalId":225253,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Modern Educational Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130295969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
