In this work, the potential of performing antenna efficiency measurements in an electrically extremely large (up to 250λ) reverberation chamber is investigated and compared to its use at lower frequencies. It is found that there are large deviations in the enhanced backscattering constant at high frequencies. Closer investigation, by introducing a position-dependent enhanced backscattering constant calculation, shows that the deviation mostly occurs at the horn antenna directed at the stirrer. This could be aggravated by the use of a moving wall type of stirrer. The work concludes by demonstrating the potential impact of these deviations on the antenna efficiency. The deviations clearly show the need for more research into these effects.","PeriodicalId":225005,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116845837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has led to the development of active EMI filters. Conventional active filters are using an analog control loop to reduce the disturbances on the power lines. The disadvantage of analog active EMI filters is, that the analog components are expensive compared to passive filter components. To address this issue, an approach for an active EMI filter only using cheap power electronics components, is introduced. The implementation of this Predictive Pulsed Compensation method is illustrated and validated on a Phase Shifted Full Bridge DC/DC Converter in a CISPR 25 test setup.","PeriodicalId":225005,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128722624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of such measurement facilities and thus of the measurements performed inside such environments depends sensitively on the reflectivity of the RF absorbers used. On the other side, the characterization of RF absorbers to ensure optimal measurement conditions is a challenging task. In this paper, the reflectivity of pyramidal absorbers is analyzed for frequencies between 1 GHz and 10 GHz using two different measurement methods: The NRL- Arch- and the RCS-method. The aim is to determine possible influences of the different approaches on the detectable reflectivity. Necessary post-processing steps and their applicability to the measured data are also discussed. It is shown that both methods can lead to nearly identical results, but even weak echoes of the surroundings may have major impact on the measurable reflectivity and thus lead to erroneous conclusions.","PeriodicalId":225005,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130314931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The interconnection of different electronic systems through cables is becoming more difficult due to the hard restrictions related to EMC compliance requirements. Thereby, the research of new solutions able to provide a great attenuation ratio in a wide frequency band is a challenge. This contribution focuses on analyzing and comparing the performance of a novel sleeve ferrite solution based on a nanocrystalline (NC) structure with several materials with different compositions. This component is able to provide a high initial permeability value at the same time that maintains it up to some tens of megahertz. In terms of dimensions, NC suppressors can provide the same effectiveness than other materials with more reduced dimensions. The analysis of the impedance dependence of a sleeve ferrite core with its dimensions has been carried out. Five ceramic materials with different initial permeabilities from 380 up to 5000 has been compared with the NC core through representing their impedance traces. The results presented shows that NC provides the higher impedance throughout the frequency range of 1-500 MHz when it is compared with ceramic cores with the same dimensions.","PeriodicalId":225005,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"27 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129110146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, simulating EMP propagating over large area with conventional FDTD is not applicable, even with the state-of-art super-computers due to the numerous computations required. In this paper, an FDTD method with multi-level parallel computation techniques and adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) strategy is proposed to solve EMP propagation over a large area. Numerical example shows the computation time decrease down to 20% while preserving excellent precision. The resulting steep switching waveforms may cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) that is mostly reduced with help of heavy passive filter circuits. One basic idea is to optimize EMC behavior and efficiency of power electronic devices by forming the switching waveforms with regard to steepness, overshoots, ringing and high frequency disturbances. Therefore, optimum control signals have to be found and synthesized. To do so, the nonlinear transmission behavior of semiconductor devices has to be considered. To start with, a basic MOSFET test circuit is regarded in this work. With help of an iterative search algorithm, a control signal is found that fits the MOSFET’s output signal to a desired waveform that optimizes EMI and minimizes switching losses. The capability of this method is shown by simulations and measurements.","PeriodicalId":225005,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126441561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This material would allow getting similar results to a real material according to criteria as transient peak level, rise time, and half time duration. The study is limited to signals of frequencies below 1 GHz. Equivalent materials used are homogeneous with scalar characteristics (εr, σ), which are deduced from experiments led on real materials. The advantage of using these equivalent materials for modelling is to coarser mesh large cases in order to save computational resources. The first experimental part of the study is realized using the NADIA open strip-line, which is made of a horizontal metallic ground plane and the strip-line, terminated with resistors. A cinder blocks wall is built according to dimensions of NADIA window, and the strip-line is set up in front of the wall. With multiple electric field sensors, the attenuation brought by the cinder blocks wall is measured, but also the propagation time of the wave through the cinder blocks. The second part is focused on the modelling aspect. It permits to show if a simple homogeneous equivalent wall is able to model a numeric cinder blocks wall. It is also necessary to take care about the fact that the material is dispersive, and it is a matter to know if a simple couple (εr, σ) is sufficient to describe the material. Eventually, a simple method of building material characterization will be highlighted.","PeriodicalId":225005,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127944901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They must be verified with Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), which unfortunately have coaxial ports. These devices can be connected to the VNA only if they are embedded in adapters. In the verification process, the DUT must be de-embedded, i.e. the contribution of adapters must be extracted from the measured S-parameters. The Thru-Reflect-Line TRL calibration of the VNA is a suitable tool for that task, provided the necessary hardware and software facilities of the VNAs are available. If not, alternatives are required. The Authors presented such an alternative calibration method in their previous publications. Frequency limitations of the de-embedding process were reported in them. The reason is an abrupt transition from 50 ohms characteristic impedance of the coaxial structure by the cable connector to the 207 ohms characteristic impedance of the cylindrical rod wire above the reference ground plane. In this paper, the Authors present a newly developed adapter, with smoothly increased characteristic impedance, for which noticeable improvements can be observed.","PeriodicalId":225005,"journal":{"name":"2019 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"199 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121437233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
