However, even in this period the phenomenon of the digital divide (dd) emerges. This research moves in this direction, studying the evolution of the Internet use in Italy, in three different macro-areas, in more recent times (from 1996 to 2022). To provide a rigorous quantitative approach of the internal dd, different statistical models of diffusion, in particular Logistic, Gompertz and Bass models have been used. In order to analyse the diffusion of the Internet and internal digital divide, the number of “.it “domain names were used as an indicator. From the comparison of the three statistical models applied, resulted that the Internet diffusion in the North is very developed compared to the Centre and South, and although the Centre and the North have a similar trend, the diffusion process is slower in the South. This confirmed the presence of an internal digital divide. A particular result arising from the application of Bass model is that, in Italy, potential users of the Internet are mostly “imitators” with respect to “innovators”. Furthermore, results show the presence of two imitator areas with different behaviors: the imitator area with higher income adopts technology faster, reaching in some times the same levels of Internet penetration of the innovative area and the point of inflection of the diffusion curve less than one year earlier than the innovative area and almost two years earlier than the imitator area with low income. However, the results show that in the long term the North (the area where the innovation coefficient is highest) continues to differentiate itself from the Centre and the South, increasing rather than decreasing the dd. Through a social accounting matrix multiplier analysis, this study empirically identifies the production inducement, income inducement, and income distribution effects driven by DT-related infrastructure investments. We analyze how DT influences production, income, and income distribution through infrastructure investments, focusing on its effects on the labor market and household income. The findings indicate that DT accelerates economic growth, favoring digital capital-intensive industries and high-skilled labor, potentially increasing employment polarization and exacerbating income inequality. This study highlights the need for dual approach as to enhance national competitiveness and inclusiveness in an economy driven by DT technologies. At the same time, digitalization has increasingly been touted as a key pathway for mitigating economic losses from the pandemic, and we expect firms facing digital constraints to be less resilient to supply shocks. This paper uses firm-level data to investigate whether digitally-enabled firms have been able to mitigate economic losses arising from the pandemic better than digitally-constrained firms in the Middle East and Central Asia region using a difference-in-differences approach. Controlling for demand conditions, we find that digitally-enabled firms faced a lower decline in sales by about 4 percentage points during the pandemic compared to digitally-constrained firms, suggesting that digitalization acted as a hedge during the pandemic. Against this backdrop, our results suggest that policymakers need to close the digital gap and accelerate firms’ digital transformation. Despite increased investment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of households in the rural United States still lack adequate access to high-speed internet. In this study, we evaluate a wireless broadband network deployed in Turney, a small, underserved rural community in northwest Missouri. In addition to collecting survey data before and after this internet intervention, we collected pre-treatment and post-treatment survey data from comparison communities to serve as a control group. Due to technical constraints, some of Turney's interested participants could not connect to the network, creating an additional comparison group. These comparisons suggest two primary findings, (1) changes in using the internet for employment, education, and health could not be directly attributed to the internet intervention, and (2) the internet intervention was associated with benefits stemming from the ability to use multiple devices at once. This study has implications for the design of future broadband evaluation studies, particularly those examining underserved rather than unserved communities. In this study, changes in the willingness to pay (WTP) for public service media (PSM) were analyzed using data from public opinion polls conducted before and after the period of the first outbreak. A comparison of the samples obtained via Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition revealed the importance of and satisfaction with the news that viewers felt, and their viewing frequency increased after the pandemic, as did WTP. The findings can be interpreted as an increase in the demand for news as the infection spread. The analysis also showed that the WTP for PSM decreased a little owing to the reduction in sports programs. We exploit the variation in GDP and employment that happened between 2019 and 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, and we investigate whether UBB investments had an impact on economic resilience. We use micro-level data on UBB exposure in 2019 matched with municipality-level information on local GDP and employment levels based on tax declarations for the period 2019–2020. We address the endogeneity between UBB and local income by exploiting the distance from the closest backbone node of the upstream telecommunication network. We find that exposure to UBB mitigates the negative effect of the pandemic on local employment. One additional year of UBB exposure increases local employment by 1.3 percentage points. This study focuses on four principal contents: television programs, movies/videos/user-created content, traditional telecommunication services, and chatting/messenger/social network services. The empirical results indicate an increase in usage time for the four principal contents, as well as total content usage time because of the pandemic. The results also show that average Korean people stayed longer at home after the onset of the pandemic, leading to an increase in the time spent on all the principal contents, except for traditional telecommunication services, as well as an increase in total content usage time. Furthermore, this study suggests that whereas the effect of the pandemic on television program viewing time was mainly attributable to changes in time spent at home because of the pandemic, the effect on other contents was mainly caused by non-location-related factors. This paper examines the different roles of mobile networks and the Covid-19 pandemic in transforming mobile shopping submarkets in South Korea by estimating the long-term and short-term effects of these two factors on mobile shopping sales. We used a cointegration and an error correction model to estimate long-term and short-term effects separately. This paper explores the relationship between broadband and employment rates during April and May 2020 in rural U.S. counties. We use two broadband dimensions: infrastructure availability rates and household adoption rates. We use a two-stage least squares approach to address endogeneity and control for socioeconomic, demographic, and pandemic-related factors. Results show broadband availability and wired broadband adoption both had significant, positive impacts on the employment rate. The objective of this article was to examine the determinants of internet <em>acces</em>s, <em>use</em> and <em>productive uses</em> for school-age children in households of different socioeconomic levels. The Heckman selection model was estimated based on data taken from the <em>Encuesta Nacional sobre Disponibilidad y Uso de Tecnologías de la Información en los Hogares</em> (ENDUTIH or National Survey on the Availability and Use of Information Technologies in the Household) 2018. The results obtained show that the probability of having children internet accessing and usage patterns (homework, courses, and blogs) depends on level of schooling, economic status, digital skills, and place of residence, as well as the presence of electronic devices and infomediaries in the household.
