The application of innovative learning models in student learning process are very important. The fact that there are many teachers who still do not understand how to optimize the learning process makes it application more important. ARIAS learning model invites students to learn in a fun way by relating the learning process with their daily life. By relating the learning substance with students' daily life, it will give them more confidence and easy way to understand that the material they learn in school is useful for their daily life. This research use a qualitative descriptive research methods. The subjects are 34 students in fifth grade of elementary school, consist of 18 male students and 16 female students. This research uses observation, interviews, and documentation to collect the data, and interactive analysis method to analyze the data. The result of this reserach is that the application of ARIAS learning models (Assurance, Relevance, Interest, Assessment, Satisfaction) to thematic learning for elementary schools can increase student motivation development and provide students with a pleasant learning experiences. So students feel easier to understand learning material. Keywords— ARIAS, learning models, thematic learning.","PeriodicalId":221746,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Science, Technology, Education, Arts, Culture and Humanity - \"Interdisciplinary Challenges for Humanity Education in Digital Era\" (STEACH 2018)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117019894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to evaluate the application of problem-based learning or PBL in the learning process in higher education. PBL implementation is supposed to be a solution to the problems of lecturers who feel that the material taught is not enough time to be delivered in the lecture. This research used an explanatory mixed-method analysis. The participants of this study were students who took the course of analyzing the secondary school physics curriculum. During the lecture, observers monitor the learning process by filling out observation sheets. The questionnaire with the Likert scale was used to determine the level of student acceptance of PBL after attending lectures. Interviews were conducted with lecturers and observers related to the implementation of learning and the results obtained. From the existing data processing, the level of PBL implementation is 89% (Very Good), and students can receive PBL as an appropriate method of 82.4% (Very Good). This result is a supporting reason for the application of PBL in improving student","PeriodicalId":221746,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Science, Technology, Education, Arts, Culture and Humanity - \"Interdisciplinary Challenges for Humanity Education in Digital Era\" (STEACH 2018)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114558669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Teachers, as the main educator at school, are required to think critically in every decision while they are teaching a mathematical topic. However, a number of empirical field observation have pointed out that most of the teacher unable to response to the students’ difficulty due to inability to analyze the situation and think critically. This study aims to find out the critical thinking of pre-service teacher and to what extend they are able to present their idea, especially on the topic of set, in the class. 32 pre-service teachers were given the set of generalizability problems and situational problems from which the pre-service teachers’ critical thinking were elicited. The findings suggest that a number of pre-service teachers are able to generalize the mathematical idea, especially by using factual generalization. This suggest that generalizing the set concept deductively using symbol only become difficulty for the pre-service teachers. In addition, however, regardless the generalization, some of them were having difficulties in presenting an understandable content. Compliance and violation of the use of gender language is an indicator of the assessment of the level and quality of the life of the speaker. Along with the development of civilization, violations occurred in the form of irregularities in the use of male gendered languages used by young female Japanese speakers, though these deviations do not occur in everyday speech events but take place in certain speech contexts. Discursive practice analysis of the text does not only include a precise explanation of the way participants interpret and produce the text in an interaction, but also happens in the relationship of discursive events to the level of discourse in which it is an inter-discursive matter. The present paper employs critical discourse analysis as its tool of analysis. The analysis shows interesting results. Firsly, the context that helped build the text of the speech from the internal point of view of the text, i.e. the dimension of representation, illustrates how deviations in the use of male gendered registers by speakers of young Japanese women are acceptable and they are not considered a form of violation. Secondly, the similarity of interests and goals in the text of speech between speakers and hearers who act as textual figures are said to be the identity dimension, hence this is a factor that causes the acceptance. However, from the perspective of the identity dimension which is namely the socio-cultural structure of the speakers who act as external elements of the text, the irregularities in the use of gendered registers are still regarded as a form of violation of language due to norms and ethics in the domain of Japanese","PeriodicalId":221746,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Science, Technology, Education, Arts, Culture and Humanity - \"Interdisciplinary Challenges for Humanity Education in Digital Era\" (STEACH 2018)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125041416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, there is a need for a study to examine the role of the selected HEIs in the ASEAN region in managing campus internationalization. The major significance of the study is in its potential contribution to the practice of internationalization and strategic management in higher education. It will shed light on the state of “becoming or being internationalized. The “how is it done?” dimension of university management as it applies to this sphere and, where it appears to be done well, is explored. Some of the strategies evident in the cases were: diversification of teaching delivery modes, exploration of cross-border opportunities, the establishment of strategic alliances, forecasting entrepreneurial research, corporatization, mutual recognition of degrees, intensification of networking abroad, and implementation of onestop service to foreign students. The study proposed a framework to determine whether the HEI is in the state of “Becoming internationalized or Being internationalized.” The framework consists of distinct processes and strategies based on the effective practices culled out from the case studies. While the framework is built around Knight’s (1995) process approach of the internationalization model and Knight’s (2004) remodeled version, several significant additions were made. Using this framework as a touchstone, academic managers could get their bearings when assessing their university’s position and would have a tool for planning future directions and performance. The mission of the vocational high school is to prepare prospective skilled workers and mid-level professionals in their fields. But the reality is that not all vocational high school graduates are absorbed by the workforce well. There are vocational school graduates who work not in accordance with expertise in their fields, even some vocational high school graduates are unemployed after graduating from school. Based on the background as described above, the problem can be formulated as follows: how far is the influence of entrepreneurial insight and industrial work practices on student work readiness in vocational high school? the purpose of this study was to determine the extent of the influence of entrepreneurial insight and industrial work practices on job readiness of vocational high school graduates. Based on the literature review, the following conclusions were obtained: entrepreneurial insight and industrial work practices have a positive and significant influence on vocational readiness of vocational students. Therefore, schools need to improve entrepreneurial insight and the quality of industrial work practices to produce students with good quality vocational high school job readiness.
