The scientists emphasize the pivotal role of prosodic characteristics of political speech in shaping the audience’s perception of the speech text within the realm of political discourse. The study delves into the concept of political discourse in modern linguistics, dissecting its features and associated political rhetoric. It emphasizes the vital role of prosody and its pragmatic influence in political communication, substantiating the importance of employing prosodic means in the construction of political speech to outline the dominants of the text content and emotional impact on the listener. The author determines prosody as a crucial component of political discourse and finds out that Chinese political speech is characterized by a pronounced logical and phrasal accentuation, slower speaker’s speech rate, and longer pauses before and after semantically significant words and phrases that are of important semantic significance for the entire speech. Notably, the research findings demonstrate that the speaker changes the rhythm of the statement in order to overcome monotony and draw attention to the significant parts of the speech. Illustrating these findings with examples from the speech deliveredby Chinese President Xi Jinping in October 2022 to representatives of the Chinese Communist Party, the study shows how the rhythmical adjustments in the speaker’s statement effectively mitigate monotony. The author determines the specifics of the implementation of Chinese-language political discourse through the mechanism of prosody and concludes that the effectiveness of public speech depends on its sound patterns, demonstrating their capacity to enhance imagery and expressiveness of speech.","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University. Triangulating theoretical tenets, methodological principles and research tools of cognitivesemiotic frameworks with quantitative corpus studies, cognitive quantitative construction grammar provides a comprehensive qualitative-quantitative approach to examining cognitive foundations, general and idiosyncratic linguistic features, usage patterns and distribution of linguistic constructions. In this context, constructional modeling entails applying a computerized linguoquantitative procedure for a construction profile parametrization. This procedure yields operationalized and statistically verified data on the essential parameters that determine a construction’s linguistic behavior. The modeling uses the boxbracket notation, which integrates the box notation to represent holistic construction-level information and construction’s constituent-level information, and the bracket notation to detail specific linguistic properties and constructional constraints. The constructional modeling in the integrated box-bracket notational system applied to English ꞌdetached nonfinite/nonverbal with explicit subjectꞌ-constructions allows for a comprehensive representation of their external and internal linguistic properties and captures inheritance links betweenthe constructions at macro-, meso- and micro-levels of the constructional network. The article elucidates the results of a linguosemiotic study of interpersonal conflicts in modern fictional discourse realized through the analysis of different multimodal semiotic modes, which collectively construct the meaning, communicated in conflict situations. This constructing is proceeded with the help of conflictives as emergent discursive constructs. Verbal, nonverbal and graphic semiotic resources are involved in this process at different stages of conflict communication. As a result of the multifaceted study of conflictives in modern English fictional discourse, the peculiarities of its multimodal and multicomponent structure have been revealed. Moreover, the detailed study of the successive stages of conflict development in fictional discourse involving the MDA method, linguosemiotic analysis, pragmatics and communicative linguistics allowed for singling out a conflictive as a discursive construct which in its form coincides with a certain phase of conflict communicative process, and structurally corresponds to the concept of a communicative act.The research also aims to establish a link between different approaches to the interpretation of conflict communication development and methods of their research in modern linguistic studies. The multimodal nature of conflictives comprises several modes of multimodality which are represented at least in onemode structure of conflictives constructed in a definite phase of the conflict communicative process. These patterns of meaning multiplication through different semiotic modes collectively construct the meaning, communicated and interpreted in the situations of interpersonal conflicts in modern Englishfiction discourse. Besides, the multicomponent structure of conflictives also includes its deep and surface elements involved in the process of construction and interpretation of these meanings. The obtained results show the decoding potential of interpreting conflict interpersonal communication at differentlevels of linguistic analysis to achieve the corresponding aims.","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University. The investigation describes the algorithms of implementing linguistic research as part of the project taught during the course “Multilingual Corpus and its Resources for European Studies (KNLU)” (Erasmus+ Program). The LancsBox user-friendly software, that works with major operating systems, has proved to be a powerful manager for compiling and using the existing corpora. It enables to visualize the textual data based on the following software package tools: KWIC, GraphColl, Words, Ngrams, Wizard, etc. essential for the study of a specific linguistic unit. The statistical analysis of both corpora under analysis has revealed that the word European belongs to the lexemes that are seldom employed in the language. The comparison of the two variations has shown that the word occurs in similar top-ten frequent collocates, however, the GraphColl tool visualization has indicated the major differences between two сorpora. Thus, in British English Corpus N+N structures are more commonly employed and are more vibrant than in American English Corpus. The t-test has proved a statistically significant difference between the corpora with regard to the linguistic variable European. These data may testify to cultural differences between the users of two language variations taking into account that both сorpora represent the same time frame.","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University. Various debatable views of foreign scientists ‒ representatives of corpus linguistics ‒ regarding the content of the concept of the multilingual corpus have been considered. Besides, there has been formulated a working definition of the multilingual comparative corpus that belongs to the combined type of thematically oriented corpora of texts in different languages, grouped into sub-corpora, with their translation into other languages (or with the possibility to use computer programs to translate texts). The paper also defines the role of corpus linguistic statistics, which deals with the analyzed computer programs and allows to calculate the frequency of words or collocations use, construct diagrams of the frequency of word or collocation use in sub-corpora of texts, etc. Thus there has been made a preliminary conclusion that the computer toolkit of the corpus managers AntConc, WordSmith, WordList, MonoConc Pro, CATMA and KORP makes it possible to construct both individual Key Word in Context (KWIC) and concordance lists of search elements on the subject of European Studies; distinguish between the functionality of one or another contextual meaning of search units in their most probable left-handed and right-handed valency in different languages; see the results of statistical processing of the information from corpus tags; save and print the results; support different formats of text data (txt, doc, rtf, html, etc.).","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University. The article considers the youth sociolanguage of the network space 「若者語の SNS言葉」[wakamonogo no SNS kotoba] as the newest linguistic phenomenon in the modern Japanese language, which functions in youth communities of the network space, transforms the communication of young people and has its own “written and spoken” form of speech, where the function of intonation is performed by paralinguistic means of language. For the first time, the lexical items of the youth sociolect of the network space are classified in order to systematise them depending on the method of notation. The author focuses on the uniqueness of the Japanese writing system and thus distinguishes four methods of notation acts: hybrid input method; incorrect conversion; graphemic similarities; representative symbols of emotional expression. Special attention is paid to monitoring of paralinguistic means of communication as a resource for textualisation of youth oral speech. The study also identifies and analyses the differences between the oral language 「話し言葉」 and the written language 「書き言葉」 of youth network communication. The analysis of the factual material shows the presence of a significant number of written units of the youth sociolect, which entered the circulation of oral communication through secondary transformation, and it indicates their interaction and complementarity. The analysis of the Japanese youth sociolanguage of the network space, in particular its written form, is quite appropriate and promising in predicting the process of change and enrichment of the standard Japanese language. It opens up new perspectives in the study of youth sociolects at different levels and expands understanding of the linguistic worldview of the modern Japanese youth.","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University. The aim of the article is to generalize the rules for using correct honorifics in French linguistic culture in official communication cases. The research materials comprise texts of business letters and documents from the official websites of governmental, religious and secular organizations of the francophone world countries. In the conducted research, we apply the structural research method, which led to the use of the distributive and component analyses. It is found that the use of honorifics is widespread in higher spheres of power, business environments, formal and traditional institutions, where special respect and politeness in communication is required. Honorifics are a special type of socially marked vocabulary, as they reflect hierarchical relationships and status roles in society. It is established that adequate honorifics are used in accordance with the communicative goal, and in specific situations the use of abbreviated forms is allowed or impermissible. The rules for the use of honorifics in French linguistic culture were formed during the development of the French-speaking society; they remain valid so far and are recommended to be followed, particularly in correspondence. Inadequate application of these rules violates the cultural and social codes of the French language and hinders the realization of the communicative goal. Prospects for research are determined by the area of socially marked vocabulary, specifically by issues of professional honorifics of the French language, for example, military honorifics.","PeriodicalId":217176,"journal":{"name":"MESSENGER of Kyiv National Linguistic University.
