Esse magnífico sítio arqueológico de arte rupestre, desenhado pelo engenheiro Francisco Retumba no ano de 1886 e citado em inúmeras publicações no século último (XX), acabou por se transformar num dos grandes mitos da arqueologia brasileira. Tal sítio foi completamente evidenciado no decorrer de três campanhas de salvamento, trazendo-se à tona, além de centenas de gravuras rupestres, parte da história, esquecida, acerca do município de Pedra Lavrada, Paraíba.ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESCUE OF RETUMBA STONE: The disclosure of a legendABSTRACTThis article aims to present the results of the archaeological activities carried out to unveil the Pedra de Retumba, in the municipality of Pedra Lavrada, Paraíba, which had long since disappeared. This magnificent archaeological site of rock art, drawn by the engineer Francisco Retumba in 1886 and mentioned in numerous publications in the last (20th) century, ended up becoming one of the great myths of Brazilian archeology. Esse patrimônio cultural vem sofrendo degradação por vários fatores, e um deles é a bioturbação por cupins. Diante da importância de levantar dados que subsidiem ações de proteção e preservação da arte rupestre nessa região, o objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar a presença de cupins e suas ações nos sítios arqueológicos com pinturas. A Bioturbação por cupins foi confirmada nos seis sítios e representam uma ameaça para as pinturas rupestres. Nasutitermes foi o gênero mais frequente (59%). Os resultados subsidiam futuros estudos de monitoramento e ações de conservação em sítios arqueológicos com este tipo de ameaça.BIOTURBATION BY TERMITES (BLATTODEA, ISOPTERA) IN ROCK-ART SITES IN THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL REGION OF CAIAPÔNIA, CENTRAL BRAZILABSTRACTThe Palestine region of Goiás, located in the southwest of the state of Goiás, has about 42 registered archaeological sites, 28 of them with cave paintings. This cultural heritage has been degraded by several factors, and one of them is the presence of termites. Given the importance of protection and preservation of rock art in this region, a study was proposed to identify the presence of termites and their actions in archaeological sites with paintings. Of the 42 sites, six were visited. Termite Bioturbation was confirmed at the six sites, posing a threat to cave paintings. Nasutitermes was the most frequent genera (59%). The results support future studies of monitoring and conservation actions in archaeological sites with this type of threat. ARCHEOLOGY OF WATER AND MOUNTAINS:LANDSCAPE AND SETTLEMENT PATTERN ON THE EAST COAST OF THE TUXTLAS ABSTRACTSince 2008, archaeologists from the Universidad Veracruzana have carried out a systematic study of the eastern coast of Los Tuxtlas, in southern Veracruz. Investigations based on an archaeological survey have covered an area of 250 sq km. Thanks to these studies, evidence of prehispanic occupation, patterns of multiculturalism, and distinctive settlement patterns has been identified in the region that is related to the development of a maritime port system during the Classic period (300-1000 AD). Sin embargo, el entorno selvático y los terrenos inundados dificultaron conocer la región y a su población desde el siglo XVI. Hoy día se tiene una base de datos de 1730 sitios, la mayor parte de éstos fueron registrados entre los años cincuenta a los noventa del siglo XX. Este texto aborda una revisión histórica de la arqueología de superficie efectuada en un singular entorno y bajo diferentes perspectivas, la que ha permitido conocer y ubicar a las poblaciones prehispánicas que le habitaron.SURFACE ARCHEOLOGY IN TABASCO, MEXICO:A HISTORICAL REVIEWABSTRACTTabasco is characterized by its extensive alluvial plains, whose natural wealth allowed the settlement of many cultures from 1400 a.C., however, the jungle environment and the flooded lands made it difficult to know the region and its population since the 16th century. Lara","doi":"10.20891/clio.v34n2p57-76","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20891/clio.v34n2p57-76","url":null,"abstract":"El sitio arqueológico de Tajín es considerado como el más importante de la Costa del Golfo, México, ubicada en una superficie de 144 hectáreas, emplazada en área de pequeñas colinas con cuencas abierta y cerradas, en una sucesión de plazas arquitectónicas edificada en plataformas semi-artificiales de manera estratificada. Edificios con terrazas soportadas por columnas cilíndricas, techos planos de gran envergadura y complejidad. Además de presentar una arquitectura sofisticada a base de lajas que dan forma a los nichos, grecas y cornisa volada, también contiene esculturas en piedra de volumen mediano y figuras a escala humana modeladas en estuco. Presenta 17 juegos de pelota y eso es un indicador de la religiosidad de sus habitantes y sus habituales, representaciones del ritual plasmado en 6 tableros usando la técnica de bajorelieves. Aquí, también, encontramos pinturas a escala normal y en miniatura. Es inconmensurable la riqueza iconográfica que marcan los hechos más relevantes de sus gobernantes.SURFACE ARCHEOLOGY IN TAJÍN ABSTRACTThe archaeological site of Tajín is considered as the most important of the Gulf Coast, Mexico, located in an area of 144 hectares, located in an area of small hills with open and closed basins, in a succession of architectural squares built on semiartificial platforms of stratified way. Buildings with terraces supported by cylindrical columns, planes of great scope and complexity. In addition to presenting a sophisticated architecture, a basis of the law that shapes the niches, fretwork and flown cornice, it also contains stone sculptures of medical volume and figures in a human scale modeled in stucco. It presents 17 ball games and that is an indicator of the religiosity of its inhabitants and their regulars, representations of the ritual embodied in 6 paintings using the technique of bas-reliefs. Here, too, we find paintings on a normal scale and in miniature. A pesar de que esta extraordinaria pieza ha provocado la discusión entre académicos, durante décadas, sobre su autenticidad arqueológica, no se había realizado una investigación sistemática arqueológica en la región de Capoacan –un área estratégica intermedia entre los ríos Coatzacoalcos, Capoacan y Uxpanapa; una isla ubicada justo en medio de los sitios olmecas de San Lorenzo, Veracruz y La Venta, Tabasco. Por tal motivo, en 2018 dio inicio un proyecto sistemático en la región que tiene como uno de sus objetivos la clarificación de hechos y la contribución al conocimiento de la arqueología regional. En este artículo se presentarán los resultados de la primera temporada de campo y análisis de los materiales, mismos que revelan información importante sobre la dinámica poblacional de un sitio intermedio, espacial y temporalmente, a las dos capitales olmecas del periodo Preclásico mesoamericano. SETTLEMENT AND OLMECA POPULATION DYNAMICS IN THE REGION OF CAPOACAN, VERACRUZ ABSTRACTAntonio Plaza, on the Uxpanapa river bank, is known as the place of origin of one of the most controversial archaeological findings in the Southern Gulf of Mexico – the so-called Wrestler sculpture. Despite the discussion on its archaeological authenticity that, for decades, this extraordinary piece has sparked, no thorough archaeological research has been undertaken in the region of Capoacan – a strategic area between the rivers Coatzacoalcos, Coachapa and Uxpanapa; an island located just between the Olmec sites of San Lorenzo, Veracruz and La Venta, Tabasco. For this reason, 2018 saw the launch ofa systemaci research project in the aforementioned region, whose principal aim is to clarify facts and contribute to the body of knowledge on the region’s archaeological heritage. This paper presents the findings after the first season of field work and the analysis of the recovered archaeological material, which reveal important information on the population dynamics in an intermediate – both in space and time – site between the two major Olmec capitals of the Mesoamerican Pre-classic period. La identificación de cerámica diagnóstica con la aplicación de una tipología desarrollada para caracterizar la función y contexto de los sitios permite ofrecer un panorama de la dinámica de poblamiento para la zona de estudio, revelando un proceso que inició en el 900 a.C., deteniéndose drásticamente hacia el 200-400 d.C., quedando despoblada la región hasta que hacia el 900 d.C. comienza a repoblarse con gente ligada a Tula y Cholula. Después del año 1000 d.C. se introdujo con vigor la población propiamente llamada huasteca.SURFACE ARCHEOLOGY IN THE LACUSTRE BASIN OF TAMESI, NORTHERN HUASTECA. Evidence of the Paleo-population Dynamic and Use of Space ABSTRACTSurface surveys carried out in the Tamesí lake basin (2007 to 2009), allowed the location and sampling of 31 new archaeological sites. The identification of diagnostic ceramics with the application of a typology developed to characterize the function and context of the sites, allows to offer a panorama of the population dynamics for the study area, revealing a process that began in 900 BC, stopping drastically towards 200-400 AD, the region being depopulated until about 900 AD begins to repopulate with people linked to Tula and Cholula.
