Abstract

IN CENTER AND SOUTH OF VERACRUZ, MEXICO. Summary of Its Importance in Archeological Research ABSTRACTIn archaeological investigation, regional surface survey has been an important method that uses various techniques for the systemic recording of data according to specific objectives. Since its implementation in the Viru Valley, archaeological surveys have fostered the visual exploration of the material record preserved on the Earth’s surface and have advanced considerably the territorial, environmental, and cultural analysis of human behavior in the past. Mesoamerica has not been immune to this trend, as we show by presenting examples from regional surface surveys from the Gulf Coast, focusing particularly on the center and southern regions of the state of Veracruz Keywords: Surface Archaeology; Gulf Coast; Regional Survey
