Each card has an individual meaning that allows it to be interpreted. Through the analysis of individual cards and their use in constructing a story, the protagonist of which is curator Ernesta Thot, a half-fictional, half-real story is created. This article aims to explore the extent to which literary narrative can not only tell us something about the profession of art curator, but also whether it is possible to read their activities through tarot cards. In addition, the article aims at showing that inspiration for the creation of stories about art can also be drawn from experiments on the borderline between curatorial and artistic projects, which is also the case with the reconstruction of Thot's biography, which has already been carried out regularly in various periodicals.","PeriodicalId":215373,"journal":{"name":"Elementy. The context is contemporary problems of the humanities with its main medium - the text. The background to the consideration of the ABR is primarily to think about the text and the contemporary humanities in terms of the laboratory, both as a metaphor for textuality, “working with the text”, and as a model for working in a research team. {"title":"POETYCKI GEST PROTESTU NA ROZDROŻU","authors":"Anna Nacher","doi":"10.52652/e.1.21.7","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.52652/e.1.21.7","url":null,"abstract":"In my article, I introduce the category of a “silent” protest based on a discussion of a series of works by Portuguese artist Paula Rego, Abortion Pastels (1998), which sparked significant social discussion and contributed to the outcome of the 2007 referendum that decided to liberalise abortion law in Portugal. I point out the difference in the artistic strategy, which reaches back to the classical repertoire of representation, making the subject matter of the works relatively rarely dealt with in art, such as abortion or other issues related to women’s reproductive health. “Silent” protest means not only an unobtrusive or subdued gesture, but rather one that does not succumb to the formula of radically rapid information circulation enforced by social media. Using the theoretical repository of art sociology (the theories of Pierre Bourdiue and Howard S. Becker), the author reconstructs the role of the language of theory and criticism in constructing the boundaries of the artistic field. Then, the analysis of the process of the expansion in the field of art, and thus the decomposition of its boundaries is carried out, arguing that the language of art theory and criticism should become an emphatic vehicle for the inclusion of these trends rather than an instrument of exclusion. It has been theorised that it occurs where there is a transgression of the boundaries of traditional criticism as defined by Słownik Terminów Literackich (Dictionary of Literary Terms). Selected examples of texts written after 1989 have been analysed, showing examples of broadening the field of criticism and going beyond traditional boundaries. Thus, the ways in which criticism is treated as a game, a deliberately applied strategy, the use of concepts and borrowings from the field of literature have been analysed. An analysis of the texts and the rhetorical devices used in them has been made, as well as the authors’ concepts.
