It was founded by Michèle BOURTON for students aged 6 to 15 years old. For six years now, fifteen cats participate in the students’ lives in this extraordinary school and they play their role as therapists going round the classrooms looking for a hug or a cosy cushion to curl up on. Whilst respecting the animals’ freedom, they choose to come and go as they please, we have noticed important things in the children's behaviour and academic performance. Purring therapy is now well-known in the scientific world and its proof is now accepted. In our school, students feel reassured thanks to the cats’ presence, they no longer worry about going to school and they don’t feel stressed anymore. We are seeking to develop a network of Candide Schools (whose pedagogy is not limited to the presence of felines) so that as many students as possible can benefit from these extraordinary learning conditions.","PeriodicalId":213104,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Conference on Advanced Research in Education","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124715779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Students cannot master it by simply watching their lecturer solving the problems at the end of each chapter, they must fully engage in solving these problems. However, in order to solve these problems students must be able to extract the information from the problems necessary for setting up the equations. This often requires that they visualize the problem, and that skill can present quite a challenge for some, and especially students who are studying physics in a second language. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the ability to visualize physics problem on students’ success in answering physics exam questions. Twenty-eight undergraduate and 10 preparatory students were randomly assigned to participate in this study and asked to solve physics problems related to their mechanic’s physics course. These problems contained a few sentences of English text which described a situation or image, and students were asked to draw the scenario or image described in the text. The result of the study highlights the difficulty in solving physics questions faced by students who lack the ability to visualize and the importance of training students to visualize physics problems in order to help them solve problems and to enhance their understanding of the physics concepts.","PeriodicalId":213104,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Conference on Advanced Research in Education","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122814209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this aim, the study developed two multidimensional models including SRL, SE, and motivation (an exogenous variable in both models). However, the difference between the models is the directional relationship between SRL and SE. This mixed-methods research included two sequential phases, a qualitative investigation, then, a quantitative study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted on lecturers, first-year undergraduates (who also participated in a diary task), and the students’ family members. The themes emerging from the analyses of the qualitative data informed the development of the questionnaire, which was administrated on a random, survey, sample of 2174 first-year undergraduates. The conceptual models were verified by testing the measurement model (using confirmatory factor analysis), and then, the structural model (using structural equation modelling). The models fit the data well. It was found that motivation was associated with SRL and SE significantly if the direction of the relationship was from SRL to SE (β = .712***; S.E = .036; 95% CI [.641, .784]), but it was associated only with SE significantly if the direction of the relationship was from SE to SRL (β = .789***; S.E = .041; 95% CI [.709, .869]). Although that the literature on SRL and SE has been mainly focusing on the effect of SE on one’s regulation, this paper showed that SRL has also an influential role on SE (i.e. reciprocal relationship).","PeriodicalId":213104,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Conference on Advanced Research in Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128209364","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These emotional motivations include happiness, sadness, anxiety, depression, fear, anger and loneliness. This could be attributed to psychological, social and cultural factors. Emotional eating is usually identified by over eating food that contains a large amount of energy and fat. It has well been proved that there is a positive relationship between emotional eating and both obesity and disordered eating. It is known that obesity and disordered eating are highly widespread among adolescents in the world. On the other hand, literature considers emotional eating as one of the main factors that causes eating disorders among people. It is important to determine the correlation between eating food and feelings because this information helps in reducing the overeating problem. It is known that both eating disorders and obesity have negative impacts on emotional well-being in the long term, which is difficult to be treated or overcome through traditional way. Therefore, raising awareness about emotional eating and encouraging healthy eating could play a key role in reducing the emotional eating and unhealthy eating behaviours among adolescents. This study uses a mixed-method through collecting data using questionnaire and oneto-one interview tools. A number of 300 students (ages 12-15) from Riyadh (the capital city of Saudi Arabia) have completed a questionnaire, which designed for this purpose. On the other hand, a number of 15 female students have engaged in a one-to-one interview. The results show that 81.5% of students have emotional eating, however this varies according to the level of the emotional eating among the participants as 27%, 34% and 20.3% of them reported to have high, moderate and weak levels of emotional eating, respectively. The study finds that the factors that promote emotional eating are as follows: Feeling, parents as well as peers and subsequently, social media. Additionally, the majority of the participants (70% of the boys and 94.73% of the girls) are indulged positively in emotional eating (happy eating). The study reports the main factors that encourage boys and girls are as follows, respectively: eating food for the sense of comfort (39.3% and 72%), anxiety (28% and 54%), sadness (17.3% and 34%), and to feel safe (32% and 36%), while hunger is (11.3% and 6%).","PeriodicalId":213104,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Conference on Advanced Research in Education","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115236706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the British Colonial rule in Sri Lanka, English language proficiency seemed to be instrumental to get government employment. Since Sri Lanka became an independent state, politicians have frequently intervened in the language policy of the country. The objective of this study is to categorize the challenges Sri Lankans encounter in language education and identify the opportunities to promote language education, particularly English as a second language proficiency. Both qualitative and quantitative methodologies were involved in the Research. Tools for data collection to implement this research included interviews, group discussions and secondary data sources. In 1960 s, as far as the government schools were concerned, the natives were keen to receive education in their own native languages. Yet, after a lapse of 18 years of the adoption of the system of bilingual education, the crisis such system underwent in its course is still recalled regrettably. It is disappointing to note that most of the students do not achieve the required level of English knowledge despite their school education for 13 years. Particularly students from rural areas, hill countries and poor families face serve difficulties in learning the language. It is suggested that politicians should consider for sighted amendments to the existing language policy for better prospect considering the higher educational prospects and career opportunities worldwide.","PeriodicalId":213104,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Conference on Advanced Research in Education","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122108357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines their effectiveness in a girls’ primary school in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and therefore makes an original contribution. A sample of 80 pupils, aged 6-7 years in Year One, was randomly selected and allocated to two intervention and two control groups. An additional sample of four teachers was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The impact of colour response cards on academic engagement and disruptive behaviour was investigated in experimental activities, along with feedback from the pupils. Further data were collected from the teachers in regard to how the response cards affected their decision-making. A mixed methods approach was adopted preand post-observation to answer the research questions, employing observation, a questionnaire survey, and semi-structured interviews.","PeriodicalId":213104,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Conference on Advanced Research in Education","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129775154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to the lack of professional attributes, it is difficult for the graduates to get employed. Employers are reluctant to take inexperienced graduates and prefer those who have wide technical expertise. There is a lack of proper collaboration between industries and universities at the moment. Very little is known what experience Kazakhstani students gain during these profession-oriented internships. The current study is the product of the small-scale research that explores the impact of short-term internship on the employment of Kazakhstani graduates. Recent graduates of one private university have been interviewed and asked about their internship experience. The findings show that even though graduates of different specialties have been interviewed it has been found that the unsystematic design of the program left negative impressions among graduates. There is a discrepancy between the academic content and the market needs. As a result, some interviewees said that they had to learn everything from scratch when they started working. Other respondents became reluctant to pursue the job in their specialization. Further quantitative research needs to be carried out to better understand the specific factors that may impact on the students’ WIL experience.","PeriodicalId":213104,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The International Conference on Advanced Research in Education","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115827614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
