An intermediate frequency (IF) band of 1.0 to 3.2 GHz is used in the receiving systems for 12-GHz-band satellite broadcasting. In view of frequency sharing with other services that use the same frequency band, it is important to suppress emission of radio waves that leak from the components of receiving systems. However, it is difficult to measure the low-level emission power of leaked radio waves that are wideband-modulated. In this paper, we propose a system for measuring low-level and wide-band modulated power by using direction of arrival (DOA) estimation and a correlation between a receiving signal and a leaked radio wave. From the results of evaluating our proposed system, it is shown that the accuracy of the estimated arrival angle and the measured power were less than 0.3 degrees and 1.8 dB, respectively.","PeriodicalId":212550,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121400767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that MIMO systems using BMAAs can outperform those that use conventional antenna arrays with the same aperture sizes. This is shown to be due to the efficient extraction of the maximum available power from all linearly-independent modes of excitation of the array, which results in the natural decoupling of the elements. As a proof of concept demonstration, we examine the use of a two-element BMAA consisting of two λ/4 monopole antennas as part of a MIMO communication system. The capacity that can be achieved from a MIMO system using this antenna is compared with the capacity obtained if the MIMO system uses a conventional antenna array with the same aperture dimensions. This is done through computer simulations by designing prototypes of both antennas and using them in an emulated MIMO communications systems. These results demonstrate that using the BMAA in the MIMO system results in considerable capacity enhancement.","PeriodicalId":212550,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"423 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122908557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results show that the frequency dependence of the complex conductivity is in good agreement with the Drude model. However, the retrieved plasmon frequency ωp and the collision frequency Wt are much lower than those of metal materials. The effect of surface morphology of the films on complex conductivity was investigated. The study provides a solid foundation for the applications of conductive ink films, such as wideband absorber designs.","PeriodicalId":212550,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125830027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The three notched wide bands are respectively obtained by loading U-shape slot, L-shape stubs, and nested semielliptical slots on the ground plane with a rectangular slot and a hexagon patch, which is fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW). The simulated results show that the antenna achieves the 10dB impedance band from 2.7 to 10.7 GHz in which three notched wide bands of 3.3∼3.8 GHz, 4.75∼5.9 GHz, and 7.25∼8.4 GHz for return loss (RL) less than 10 dB are obtained. The z-direction gains of the antenna at the operating frequencies of 3.1, 6.7, 9 GHz are larger than 2.7, 2, 4.4 dBi, respectively. While the z-direction gains of the typical frequencies of 3.4, 5.2, 7.8 GHz in the three notched bands are −7.5, −6, −9dBi, separately. The surface current distributions at the operating frequencies and the typical notched frequencies are presented for verifying the design method and principle of the antenna. Consequently, the mutual interference between the narrowband systems of WiMAX/WLAN/5G/X-band satellite communication and UWB communication system can be reduced significantly. Moreover, the design has the smaller size of 26×25 mm2, compared with existing triple band-notched UWB antennas. Therefore, the antenna is very promising for modern UWB communication applications.","PeriodicalId":212550,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125035585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fan-shaped magnetic dipole of 270° and a V-shape open loop is employed to achieve a wide 3-dB AR beam width within the whole elevation plane. Then, quantitative relation between the thickness of the open loop and the value of δ (which means leading phase between the different arms of the loop) is accomplished and the fitted equation is also presented. According to this, preliminary design of antenna is accomplished. The main aim of this work is to design, fabricate and measure the energy harvesting performance of this PET-based antenna. We have evaluated a feasible new and energy-efficient method for patterning copper layer on PET substrate by E-beam evaporation, without resorting to the etching process in conventional metal patterning. The thickness of copper layer is controllable, and in this case it is 150 nm. The antenna manufactured by this method is flexible and exhibits good performance. The proposed antenna is characterized by vector network analyzer (VNA) and microwave anechoic chamber. The reflection coefficient is −26.4 dB at 2.4 GHz, and the measured radiation gain is 2.7 dBi at 2.45 GHz.","PeriodicalId":212550,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114499687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna consists of a 4×2 K-band dipole array and a 4×4 Ka-band waveguide array constructed by the 4×2 K-band antenna structure and supporting plates. Both feeding networks of these two arrays are integrated together through the printed circuit boards (PCB) fabrication process. To increase the aperture efficiency, the K-band antenna is employed as the wall of the Ka-band radiating waveguide. Thanks to this topology, different antennas have high isolation with low mutual coupling between them. The isolation between two ports is better than 38 dB and 90 dB in Ka-band and K-band respectively. The experimental results have verified the proposed scheme and the design process.","PeriodicalId":212550,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131343249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thermoacoustic imaging has been extensively research in the past 15 years and has developed numerous applications especially in biomedical engineering. Pursuing a fast data measurement in the experimental process of thermoacoustic imaging is very meaningful. Compressive sensing based 3D thermoacoustic imaging technique holds great promise to achieve this goal. Detailed procedure of the novel method is introduced. Directly applying compressed sensing methods to MIMO radars leads to a heavy computational load because of high dimensional matrix operations. To solve this problem and improve the estimation accuracy, we first construct a coarse grid with some proper initializations, and then resorts to an off-grid SBL model to handle the off-grid gap, where an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is utilized iteratively for grid refining aiming to narrow the gap between the true and the estimated DOD and DOA. Simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":212550,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Workshop on Antenna Technology (iWAT)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131160074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
