{"title":"Eligibility and discontinuation of prenatal care in a freestanding birth center: a cross-sectional study.","authors":"Franciely Schermak, Maria Luiza Gonzalez Riesco","doi":"10.1590/0034-7167-2024-0015","DOIUrl":"10.1590/0034-7167-2024-0015","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objectives: </strong>to analyze the factors related to eligibility and discontinuation of prenatal care in a freestanding birth center (FBC).</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>a cross-sectional study, conducted at the Casa Angela FBC, SP, Brazil, involving 9,954 women registered between 2020-2022. Descriptive analysis was performed, including odds ratios.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>43.6% were eligible for prenatal care and 62.9% had their care discontinued. A higher level of education, higher income, Asian/Indigenous ethnicity, and living with a partner increased the chance of eligibility; older maternal age, a higher number of pregnancies, brown/black skin, and private health insurance decreased this chance. Data were collected in June 2023 through focus groups and analyzed using discursive textual analysis.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>the category Strategies that Facilitate Communication with Older Adults emerged from the analysis. The original English version of the instrument was translated into Brazilian Portuguese, subsequently back-translated into the original language and sent to the original authors. It was then assessed by a Committee of Experts composed of nine members and evaluated through a pre-test with 35 participants from the general population aged 18 to 65 years. Data were coded and analyzed using a statistical software.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>most participants evaluated the questionnaire as good (88.6%); with important items (94.3%); easy to understand (88.6%) and without need for changes (91.2%).</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>the instrument allows the analysis of factors that may influence attitudes towards suicide in the national context. The process included translation, synthesis, expert committee review, back-translation, consensus between the English versions and comparison with the original version, pretest phase (n=30), and metric property validation (convergent validity, n=360; interobserver reliability analysis, n=54; internal consistency, n=360).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>the cross-cultural adaptation was successfully performed, and the instrument was considered valid in terms of adequacy and applicability. In the convergent validity analysis, all correlations showed p≤0.001. The epistemological and methodological approach of Design Science Research guided the process.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>we developed a computer-based simulation scenario using the Unity 3D platform. A panel of experts in the field positively evaluated the resulting artifact, indicating that it possesses quality, rest on valid theoretical foundations, and effectively addresses its intended problem.</p><p><strong>Final considerations: </strong>the transition process described led to the development of a computer-based simulation that promotes autonomous, interactive, and engaging learning. In Unit B, a correlation was observed between adenosine triphosphate and colony count on the infusion pump (phase I; P=0.045). The CINAHL, Scopus, LILACS, BDENF, FIOCRUZ, Web of Science, INTEGRALIDADE and PubMed databases were used from 2016 to 2022.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>a total of 524 articles were identified, and 14 articles were selected for analysis.
