Three cheese-making trials were prepared in quintuplicate, all supplemented with a Streptococcus thermophilus starter culture (T1, T2 and T3). L. paracasei subsp. paracasei was added to T1 and T2, and inulin, to T2. The instrumental texture profile was determined after 1, 7, 14 and 21 days of storage of the cheeses. Sensory evaluation was performed after 7 days of storage. The presence of Lactobacillus paracasei in cheeses T1 and T2 and of inulin in cheeses T2 did not alter the texture profile significantly. Cheeses T1 were the least preferred in the sensory evaluation and differed significantly from T2 and T3, due to acidic taste, according to panelists. On the other hand, T2 was the most preferred one, though not significantly different from T3. Considerando que o radioisotopo tecnecio-99m ainda mantem uma posicao privilegiada devido as suas propriedades quimicas e nucleares, este trabalho constituiu-se no desenvolvimento da marcacao da timidina com o 99mTc, mediante o emprego de compostos organometalicos. Os objetivos principais foram a sintese do precursor carbonil-tecnecio-99m, marcacao da timidina com este precursor, estudo da estabilidade, e avaliacoes radioquimicas e biologicas com animais sadios e portadores de tumor. A sintese do precursor organometalico e a marcacao da timidina com este precursor foi realizada com > 97% e > 94% de pureza radioquimica, respectivamente, obtendo-se tambem uma boa estabilidade em ate 6 h em temperatura ambiente. A transquelacao frente aos aminoacidos cisteina e histidina apresentou perdas entre 8 e 11% para concentracoes de ate 300 mM. Os ensaios de biodistribuicao em camundongos sadios indicaram que o complexo radiomarcado apresentou um rapido depuramento sanguineo e baixa captacao nos demais orgaos, com predominância de excrecao da droga pelo sistema urinario e hepatobiliar. A captacao tumoral foi de 0,28 e 0,18 %DI/g para tumor de pulmao e mama, respectivamente. Rob. (Asteraceae), cultivated in different countries as food and medicinal resource. Fleshy roots and aerial vegetative organs are often used in the treatment of diabetes. This work has aimed to study the anatomical characters of the leaf and stem, aiming to supply information for microscopic identification of the pharmacognostic quality control. The botanical material was fixed and prepared according to standard techniques of light and scanning electron microscopy. The leaf is amphistomatic, predominantly with anomocytic stomata. Non-glandular and glandular trichomes are present, being the former multicellular and uniseriate. The glandular ones are short and multicellular, with two series of cells. The mesophyll is dorsiventral and the midrib has various collateral vascular bundles in centric arrangement. The young stem has remaining epidermis, angular collenchyma, cortical parenchyma, endodermis and continuous cylinders of phloem and xylem. Secretory ducts are found in the leaf and stem. Furthermore, glutamine is the most important amino acid that is passed to the foetus via the placenta, and together with glutamate, is the most abundant amino acid in maternal milk. Preterm infants suffer an abrupt interruption in the supply of glutamine via the placenta, which leads to an exclusive dependence on the endogenous synthesis or the exogenous supply of this amino acid. Preterm neonates (PT) as well as low-birth-weight neonates (LBW) frequently receive only total parenteral nutrition during their first weeks of life, which contains no glutamine. It must be pointed out that these infants present low muscular mass and that therefore, their stock of glutamine is limited. Miq) have been done with root extract of this species, but the use in large scale would compromise the sustainable exploration of this natural resource. In this sense, the utilization of pariparoba leaves, substituting the roots, in the cosmetic industry does not put in risk the existence of the species. In this work the concentration of 4-nerolidylcathecol (4-NC) in leaf extract was determined by the analytical methodology validated in our laboratory. The concentration of 4-NC in leaf extract was around 30% less than that of root extract, obtained in the same way. Concerning the study of the photostability of a leaves extract solution containing 4-NC did not demonstrate meaningful alterations in the spectrometry profile after 2 hours of exposure under UVB radiation, showing its stability under this conditions. Metalloproteinases (MMPs) are endopeptidases that are zinc-dependent, involved in remodeling extracellular matrix (ECM), that are important in the appearance of typical photoaging wrinkles. In this work the capacity of leaf extract of P. umbellata to inhibit MMP-2 and 9 activities of hairless mouse skin in vitro by zymography gel was also evaluated. A cross-sectional study was performed in 10% of Santa Catarina pharmacies randomly chosen. 258 community pharmacies were surveyed. 88.5% pharmacists were in office in the time of the interview. In average, they were 31 years old (SD=8.1) and mainly women (68%). A ratio of 1.4 (SD=0.7) pharmacists per pharmacy and 3.8 (SD=4.5) assistants existed. Only 11.4% pharmacies had an adequate structure for private caring patients. Despite having an average of more than 2 tertiary drug information sources, most of them were low quality. Activities mentioned by the majority of pharmacists were dispensing (98.2%), recording controlled drugs (90.8%), injections administration (85.1%), and helping patients on cash line (84.2%). Most of pharmacies in Santa Catarina (Brazil) do not have the adequate structure for implementing pharmaceutical care services.
