The mesophyll is dorsiventral and the midrib has various collateral vascular bundles in centric arrangement. The young stem has remaining epidermis, angular collenchyma, cortical parenchyma, endodermis and continuous cylinders of phloem and xylem. Secretory ducts are found in the leaf and stem.
