Besides, English is used as a medium of instruction in basic school to tertiary levels in these countries. More importantly reading in English is more significant if students are needed to be competent enough in their academic achievement. This study involved teachers in grades 6 in selected public schools in Davao City. This group was chosen because, the following year, they are supposed to be in grade seven to write their examinations which are to be read and answered in English without anybodys help. These examinations are very critical as they determine whether the pupil will proceed to secondary education or not. Therefore, it is expected that by the time a pupil reaches grade six, they must be competent in reading as preparation for their Junior High School life. These participants are currently teaching in the school year 2021-2022 with more than two years of experience in teaching reading. A total of 7 participants are considered in this study who will join the in-depth interview and focused group discussion. The results of this study revealed that learners tend to have less access to and poorer quality of education than other groups. Their education often does not incorporate curricula and teaching methods that recognize their communities histories, cultures, pedagogies, traditional languages, and traditional knowledge. Thus, in teaching them teachers must boost their full courage and dedication so that proper education will be achieved.\u0000KEYWORDS: reading predicament, withstood, elementary learners, home distance learning","PeriodicalId":211137,"journal":{"name":"EPRA International Journal of Environmental Economics, Commerce and Educational Management","volume":"42 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141010362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People must have reading skills whether they are in school or not. This is a challenge to teachers at the elementary level on how they nurture indigenous learners to learn proper reading in their respective grade levels. The purpose of this research topic emanated from an observation from past research that, levels of reading difficulties among primary school pupils are very high in the Philippines and are not an exception (Kelly, 1999). The Philippines could be having thousands of children who have severe reading problems which have not been detected. Therefore, there is a need to identify and understand these reading difficulties early in life and the challenges they bring about so that the situation could be changed for the better. This study involved teachers in grade 3 in selected private schools in Davao City. This group was chosen because, the following year, they are supposed to be in grade seven to write their examinations which are to be read and answered in English without anybodys help. These examinations are very critical as they determine whether the pupil will proceed to secondary education or not. This study will benefit grade seven students since they are the center of the learning process. Extensive and careful descriptions of the time, place, context, and culture of the study was thoroughly discussed to develop transferability, which is the qualitative parallel to external validity in postpositivist research (Mertens, 2005). All of the participants are teachers in selected public schools in Davao City. These participants are currently teaching in the school year 2022-2023 with more than five years of experience in teaching English. A total of 10 participants are considered in this study who will join the in-depth interview and focused group discussion. Seven of them will join the in-depth interview (IDI) while the remaining three will be subjected to the focus group discussion (FGD). The theory of Perfetti (1992) revealed that verbal efficacy must be developed with the aid of teachers efficacy and determination in teaching. This theory will support to the overall confession of the participants when they revealed that students will recognize words as a single piece of language rather than using decoding skills. Supporters of whole language do not believe that words should be broken down into singular sounds as they do not assist in the context or meaning of the word at the phonics level.","PeriodicalId":211137,"journal":{"name":"EPRA International Journal of Environmental Economics, Commerce and Educational Management","volume":"316 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141007022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This topic can be found not only in primary and secondary schools but also in higher education. In light of this, the researchers examined whether Indigenous students are aware of this. The bulk of these Indigenous students live in the mountains of one of the provinces in region three, which is one of the provinces most impoverished regions. However, Indigenous Peoples struggle does not preclude them from battling poverty and injustice through education. They are also a part of inclusive education, which means they receive the same guidance, therapies, and treatment as all students. The main purpose of this study is to discover the coping mechanisms of teachers in selected private schools in Davao City with Indigenous People (IP) learners who experience language differences inside the classroom. The Elementary teachers teaching in grades 3 to 6 would somehow reveal their experiences on how they handle situations in order to help learners with language difficulty or language differences. The objectives were to identify indicators of poor vocabulary, processing and expressing of information. The result is a school education for Indigenous children that can be regarded as additive as opposed to the many subtractive English only models of education. Such English only models of education, which allow for at most, just a token use of the childrens mother tongue, are destined to continue their pattern of failure.\u0000KEYWORDS: Coping, mechanisms, teachers, teaching, indigenous, learners, language, differences, focus","PeriodicalId":211137,"journal":{"name":"EPRA International Journal of Environmental Economics, Commerce and Educational Management","volume":"40 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141007615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Structural equation modeling using the sustainable livelihood framework (DFID, 1999) was employed to analyze the policys impact. Both primary and secondary data were collected, including 260 responses through a structured questionnaire. Samples were gathered from villages within 10 km of the coal mines and beyond using purposive convivence sampling. Results reveal both positive and negative impacts of CSR on local livelihoods. Villagers near the coal mines were somewhat aware of SECLs CSR activities but expressed dissatisfaction with the services provided. The study suggests promoting sustainable livelihoods by ensuring environmentally and socially responsible mining practices through proper policies and procedures. This study employed a non-experimental quantitative research design utilizing the descriptive-correlation method. Validated questionnaires and a Universal sampling procedure were utilized considering the minimal number of teachers in the research locale. Two hundred fifty (250) public secondary school teachers were the respondents of the study. Using mean, pearson-r, and regression analysis, the findings revealed that the extent of leadership styles of school heads was extensive while the extent of classroom practices of public secondary school teachers was very extensive. Moreover, the overall results revealed that indicators for leadership styles of school heads have a strong positive relationship to the classroom practices of public secondary school teachers. Further, results from the regression analysis revealed the following have a strong influence on leadership styles of school heads on classroom practices of public secondary school teachers: Supportive, Participative, Achievement-Oriented, and Directive. It was recommended that school heads should manage change and develop a mechanism to improve the schools system through creative support of its manpower of teachers, staff, learners, and community. Education can be effective in an environment that is not conducive to teaching and learning.
