The paper deals with some judgments about the personality and rule of the pontiff that fit into the framework of the «black legend» about Gregory XVI. The years of 1831–1846 in the history \u0000of the Holy See remain a poorly studied period in the scientific literature. The article marks seven further areas of study devoted to Pope Gregory XVI that relate to the foreign and domestic policy of the Papal State. \u0000The study presents a brief overview of the political history of the Holy See in the 1823–1831. The paper highlites circumstances of the election of Cardinal Capellari at the conclave in February 1831. The article examines the circumstances in which Gregory XVI took the chair of St. Peter: in February-March \u00001831 Italy found itself in a state of a military and political crisis that was resolved only after the intervention of French and Austrian troops. Under the pressure from foreign states (Austria, France, Russia, England, and Prussia), Gregory XVI \u0000agreed to carry out some reforms within the Papal State. First of all, the changes affected the system of administration of the Holy See. Nevertheless, despite the pressure from Austria, many planned reforms remained unfulfilled.

The \u0000purpose of the analysis is to disclose some tropological techniques that allow us \u0000to interpret some of the mysterious and vague stories of the modern Hungarian \u0000writer who used the style of magical realism. \u0000The method of this study should be considered as a lingupoetic approach \u0000to the tropes presented primarily by A.A. Potebnya. \u0000The results confirm the literary significance of Darvasi’s poetic world: \u0000rethinking of traditional images (including wood, a tree, a stone, a mountain), as \u0000well as deployment and realization of unexpected and incompatible combinations \u0000of semantisation. The presented interpretation gives an opportunity to look deeper \u0000into the unique phenomenon in modern Hungarian literature that brings together \u0000real historical events (labor camps or revolution) and archetypal images in an unusual poetic system. The tragic causes of historical situations are not disclosed by the writer, who focuses mainly on existential threat and life drama lurking in everyday life. The metaphorical plan contributes to the creation of this meaning. The results of the study, conducted in this article, can be used not only to familiarize new trends in literature of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, but also to study tropological issues.

The attention is focused on the authorial metaphor occupying the central position in linguistic research, especially in cognitive linguistics. The paper deals with the analysis of metaphor in the individual style of H. Lonfellow, a famous American romantic poet. The goal of the analysis is to establish the parameters of the author’s cognition, to single out statistically relevant tendencies in the creation of the text imagery reflecting similarities and differences \u0000between the elements of mental picture of the world. Correlation analysis (Cole co-efficient) of multiaspect metaphor features has made it possible to reveal interdependence between semantic characteristics of lexis representing target and source \u0000domain with localization of these lexical units in verse line. \u0000As a result, we have found a number of statistically relevant interrelations, unexpected in accordance with common logic. These interrelations shed light on not evident tendencies in the structure of the authorial metaphor from the point of view \u0000of (a) structural and semantic characteristics of target and source domains and (b) structural parameters of target domain, on the one hand, and source domain, on the other hand. The obtained data can become the basis for the algorithm to model an \u0000authorial style, namely its most complicated aspect – imagery and its localization in the verse text.

These nov- \u0000els were written almost at the same time. They share commonality in issues and \u0000style. We compare these novels to trace how the both writers use grotesques in \u0000their works about Russian Revolution. \u0000Despite both Ehrenburg and Pilnyak sharing one technique, they realize \u0000it in a quite different manner. Ilya Ehrenburg finds grotesque in every human \u0000being. Thus, the world, where people live, act and communicate, can be nothing \u0000more but an inevitable and everlasting carnival where everybody takes part, will- \u0000ingly or unwillingly but without any chance for escape. A solid, «classic» world \u0000is just a mirage. \u0000On the contrary, Pilnyak casts his protagonists into a world with clear \u0000distinctions – physical, territorial, moral, etc. For some period of time, chaos does \u0000override cosmos, forcing protagonists to find themselves in the middle of a very \u0000grotesque situation. However, the prevalence of grotesque is somewhat transi- \u0000tional while the cosmos is perennial. \u0000Writers with a modernist background typically use grotesque when they \u0000set their plot in the age of Russian Revolution. But at the same time, there is an \u0000essential junction when they recognize grotesque in a human personality or in \u0000situations how people live and act.

In modern dialectology and dialect lexicography, attention is mostly paid to the description of dialect phraseological material. Within the framework of dialect phraseography, general and regional dictionaries of dialect phraseology are being developed. The basis of these dictionaries, as a rule, is made up of distionaries of Russian folk dialects, in which the phraseological connections of the \u0000heading units are reflected in one way or another. However, for a complete understanding of the composition, character, properties of fixed expressions, it is necessary to comprehensively consider them in the genre of the phraseological dictionary itself. \u0000Fixed expressions occupy a noticeable part in the Dictionary of Smolensk Dialects both in the number of recorded units and in thematic, structural, and semantic diversity. In the article, the properties of the phraseological material presented in the Dictionary are considered on the example of fixed expressions \u0000with zoonymic vocabulary. The article analyzes lexical, grammatical, semantic inguocultural characteristics of fixed expressions, that are important for their \u0000phraseographic description. In the future, the analysis of the material devoted to various dialects will make it possible to find out how productive certain models of fixed expressions \u0000with zoonymic vocabulary in different dialects are, what zoomorphic images in different dialects express this or that characteristic of an object, whether their evaluative semantics coincide, what phraseological units with zoomorphisms \u0000have become a part of the national phraseological fund, and which have remained as a separate dialect and why, etc.

The history of nations in the 19th century is often studied in such conditions when the part \u0000of the ethnic community became the part of the foreign country as it occurred with Poland. Under the foreign domination, ethnic and national development factors as well as cultural and political separation of the Polish society from societies of Russia, \u0000Austria and Prussia remained intact for a long time and developed in their own way. Those tendencies especially appeared in the system of the national economy, which was the fundament of the nation as the historical community. The separate economic \u0000policy of the Kingdom of Poland created a basis of the national market and the national economy not only for the Kingdom itself, but for all Polish lands. The article shows that the economic unity of the Polish lands had been existing up to the last \u0000decades of the 19th century, when centripetal forces became to prevail in the economic development of Russia, Austria and Prussia due to the industry and capital concentration. The author analyzes the main provi- \u0000sions of the the Paleolithic Continuity Theory and Neolithic creolization hypothesis in the contexts of intellectual history and history of these ideas. Proponents of the analyzed theories deny and criticize the main archaeological and linguistic theories regarding the problems of the history of Old Europe, including the migration of Indo-Europeans and the processes of Indo-Europeanization of Europe. They insist on the autochthonous nature of the Indo-Europeans imagining Europe as their historical ancestral home and denying the fact of their migration \u0000from the territory of the alleged ancestral home. \u0000The Neolithic Creolization hypothesis is a compromise version of non-academic discourse; it synthesizes advocates’ ideas of autochthonism and migration of Indo-Europeans. Pre-election communication is a specific genre of political discourse combining institutional, ritualistic, rhetorical features. The aim \u0000of a political speech is to change the perception of reality by the audience, when it comes down to candidates running their election campaign, vote swinging by means of manupulative verbal behaviour. According to the research, the speech portrait of Donald Trump as a presidential candidate is rather diverse. The discourse of the US former President can be classified as a hybrid combining the features of institutional, ritualistic and \u0000rhetorical communication. It merges constituent characteristics of the pre-election discourse: participants and their roles, chronotopos, manipulating strategies, rituality, symbolism. Being an experienced speaker, Trump facilitates currently \u0000topical arguments (toposes) in his speeches; patriotism is one of the most essential for him, according to the research. Some tools used by the candidate are typical of all participants of the pre-election discourse (for example, creating the circles of «us» or his supporters and «them» or his rivals in the election race). A typical feature of practically all analysed texts has been distingushed, which consists in using a meaningful slogan for his agitational narration.

This issue has been raised in the works of some Russian and foreign linguists. However, it has not been studied systematically. As far \u0000as we know, researchers give their consideration to certain aspects of this problem, although they have achieved certain success. We have set the goal of summarizing \u0000available approaches and examples, mainly in English, but also in Russian, to create a complete and consistent classification of words formed by means of fusion. \u0000The second part of the paper presents a classification of blends in connection with different fields of activity, since each of them is created to designate a new object or phenomenon that combines elements of two or more words that are already \u0000known. We can distinguish several areas, in particular «science and technology», within which, in turn, we have designated three groups: «natural science terms and \u0000terminoids» correlating with various scientific disciplines (chemistry, biology, physics, etc.), «technical terms», including names of devices, «names of hybrids of living \u0000beings», both real and fictional. Within the «everyday life» area, the «food» groups are presented, including names of drinks, serving items, etc., «clothing», as well as \u0000shoes and accessories, «home» and «recreation and entertainment». Moreover, we \u0000have identified a number of separate groups: «politics», «economics», «art», «lin-guistics», etc. Each large group can be divided into subgroups. \u0000Most of the blends, as we have already noted in the first part of the article, are represented by nouns, therefore, they form the basis of each thematic group of words. However, it is possible to distinguish two groups formed almost exclusively \u0000by adjectives: «description of a person», including both appearance and character, and «signs of an object or phenomenon». In the end, the article draws general con- \u0000clusions on both parts of our research.
