All study participants were evaluated with polysomnograpic data, BMI, serum lipid, insulin, glucose and PAPP-A levels.PAPP-A values were higher in OSAS group than control group. When the groups were examined according to apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), PAPP-A level of severe OSAS group was determined to be significantly higher than that of control and mild and moderate OSAS groups. As the severity of OSAS increased, the level of PAPP-A increased. In ROC analysis applied to PAPP-A levels of the OSAS and control groups, the optimum cut-off point for serum PAPP-A levels in this study population was 2.38 ng/ml. A positive correlation was determined between PAPP-A levels, BMI and insulin levels. PAPP-A could be a clinical marker for the risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular events in OSAS. Since OSAS patients have a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease, it would be useful to assess prognostic data provided by PAPP-A.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131649625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Groups of this research were designed as sham, torsion detorsion (T/D), and T/D+Laz (T/D+10 mg/kg dose of Laz) groups. TOS, MDA and OSI levels, MPO activity raised significantly in testicular torsion detorsion group compared to sham group in testes tissues (p<0.05). However, SOD and TAS values reduced in T/D group. On the contrary, SOD level increased while MPO activity, TOS, OSI and MDA levels decreased meaningfully due to Laz treatment (p<0.05). As a conclusion, Laz demonstrated an effective protection against testicular T/D-induced testis injury in experimental rats.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116878574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pictograms have international meaning and information and the communication speed is extremely fast when compared to written communication. Therefore, it is believed that their use during counseling in pharmacy services will contribute positively to the treatment of the patient and it can be used as an effective and alternative tool for communicating with hearing-impaired and illiterate patients or who use the wrong/incomplete medication. Thus, the frequency of the undesired side effects due to misuse will be reduced by ensuring that the patient uses the drug correctly and effectively and the meaningful contribution may be made to the country's economy through decreasing health expenditures by rational drug use. In this study, it is aimed to give information about the subject and draw attention to its importance by examining the studies performed on the subject.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131170123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Total serum immunoglobulin E (Ig E) and radioallergosorbent test (RAST) (Allergen-specific IgE Antibody test) were used in psoriasis patients in order to investigate this correlation. Forty-eight psoriasis patients and thirty-nine healthy control group were included in the study. Allergen-specific IgE antibody test for peripheral eosinophilia, serum total Ig E and Dermatophagoides (D.) pteronyssinus and D. farinae was applied to all the study group. The treatment, severity of the disease, age, gender, and the duration of the disease were taken into account in the patient group, no statistically significant difference was detected in terms of allergen-specific IgE antibody test for D. pteronyssinus and D. farinae (p>0.05). Serum IgE and eosinophil were seen at a higher rate in psoriasis patients (p < 0.05). Patients with psoriasis have elevated levels of serum eosinophil and serum total Ig E. Although there is no aeroallergen specific immune shift associated in relation to house dust mites, serum IgE and eosinophils may be important important in the course and follow-up of the disease.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133291818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Savaş, Ismail Sarikan","doi":"10.29228/jamp.48736","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.29228/jamp.48736","url":null,"abstract":": Obesity is expressed as increased body fat tissue mass. Obesity is the most frequent cause of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance leads to formation of type 2 diabetes mellitus within a period of 10-15 years. Due to this mechanism, there is a strong relationship between obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to compare obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, which occur with similar mechanisms, based on the inflammation they cause. Ninety-seven male and female individuals were included in the study. The participants were divided into three groups as the control group (n=31), obese group (n=33) and type 2 diabetes group (n=33). Their clinic bio-chemical tests were obtained retrospectively from their files and analyzed. The Neutrophil / Lymphocyte (N/L) ratios of the control, obese non-diabetic and type 2 diabetes mellitus groups were found respectively as (mean±SD) 1.76 ± 0.69, 1.95 ± 0.89 and 2.79 ± 2.16 (p=0.01). While N/L was numerically higher in the obese non-diabetic group in comparison to the control group, the difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). This value was found to be significantly higher in the type 2 diabetes mellitus group than the other two groups (p<0.05). It is seen that type 2 diabetes mellitus development in obese non-diabetic individuals may be prevented by weight loss as a result of lifestyle changes, healthy and balanced diet, exercise and increased mobility, and this way, progression of systemic inflammation and formation of tissue and organ damage may be counteracted. In addition, if the transformation of insulin resistance into type 2 diabetes mellitus in obese individuals can be prevented, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality may decrease.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116517353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its incidence in women is higher and is mostly inherited as autosomal recessive. It has been shown that the mutation in ABCC6 gene coding the transmembrane transport protein plays a role in the development of PXE. Generally, the first finding is asymptomatic skin involvement and also multisystemic involvement such as eye, cardiovascular sys-tem, central nervous system, peripheral veins, and gastrointestinal system can be observed. Even though the pathological calcification seen in the elastic connective tissue is histopathologically observed, it is quite rare to monitor clinically the calcin-osis cutis lesions on the skin. In the present case, this rarely seen co-existence is present and this case report was represented in order to contribute to the literature.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"05 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127137816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
