Evaluation and management of autonomic dysfunction may improve quality of life of patients. We aimed to assess the autonomic dysfunction via heart rate variability (HRV) along with serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels and disclose the correlations between HRV and levels of these two chief biomarkers in the immunopathology of MS, if any. Thirty-six consecutive RRMS patients who had an EDSS score of 0-3 EDSS, not in the relapse period and receiving interferon beta treatment were compared with age and gender-matched 37 healthy subjects in terms of HRV, serum TNF-and IL-10 levels. ANS was evaluated by frequency-based HRV analysis. TNF-α and IL-10 levels in serum were measured by the ELISA method. The mean serum TNF-α level was found to be higher in the RRMS group compared to the controls (p=0.010) but not the IL-10 (p=0.726). HRV parameters were significantly lower in the RRMS patients compared to the controls. No correlation was found between the inflammatory markers and HRV parameters in patients with MS. We found high levels of TNF-α, known to correlate with the severity and progression of MS, along with low levels of HRV in our patient group when compared with controls. Our results show that neurodegeneration and autonomic dysfunction can be present even in patients with RRMS with a low level of disability.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121726855","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Philedelphia (Ph) (-) CMPD group, the most common ones are polistemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET) and primary myelofibrosis (PMF). In CMPD patients, CALR (Calreticulin) mutations have been identified. In this study, identification of CALR mutations in Ph (-) CMPD patients and the effects of the presence of CALR mutations on the clinical findings of patients were investigated. A total of 76 Ph (-) CMPD cases including 35 ET, 1 PMF, 4 POST-PV, 4 POST-ET MF and 32 PV were included in the study. CALR mutations were studied using DNA sequence analysis method using DNAs isolated from venous blood of patients diagnosed with CMPD. In patients with PMF, reticulin fiber increase was found higher. Splenomegaly-correlated with disease stage was higher in PMF and PV cases, and 19.7% of cases had thromboembolic events, primarily MI, SVO, Budd Chiari and DVT. There was no significant difference between groups in terms of survival. The JAK2 mutation was evaluated in 45 cases with a 20% JAK2V617F mutation in ET, 3% in PV and 33.3% in PMF (p> 0.05). No JAK2 mutation was detected in 76 cases evaluated for CALR type 1 and CALR type 2 mutations. In JAK 2 (-) ET and PMF patients, CALR mutations were not detected. Between two mutations, the rate of type1 CALR mutation is 45-50%, while type 2 is 32-41% in the population.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123808320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our study included 230 patients who applied to obstetrics and gynecology clinic in a university hospital, who had a pregnancy of 32 weeks or more and agreed to participate in the study. After obtaining the approval of the ethics committee and getting their written consent, a questionnaire consisting of 34 questions was filled by face to face interview method. Pregnant women who were considered to have risky pregnancies in terms of their pregnancies or pre-pregnancy conditions and who need frequent follow-up were not included in the study. The questionnaires were evaluated using the SPSS version 22.0 program. According to the findings obtained from the study, 39.1% of the pregnant women participating in the study think that there is radiation on the ultrasound, just like on a direct radiograph (x-ray). These pregnant women also stated that they know that radiation is harmful for them and their babies. 90% of these pregnant women had ultrasound at each control, and 24.4% had an extra ultrasound to learn the baby's gender. If their doctor is told that it will be enough to do ultrasound four times during pregnancy, 65.6% of the pregnant women reported that they would change their doctor. An ultrasound examination was performed at each control to 90.1% of the pregnant women who stated that the ultrasound was harmful. 27.1% of pregnant women who went to the doctor for extra control for gender think that ultrasound is harmful. 37.3% of pregnant women who had three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound had this done without a doctor's recommendation. Ultrasound should be used in ethically appropriate indications during pregnancy follow-up.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122273435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Violence against women is continuing at same rates worldwide despite all efforts made to take preventive measures. The objective of this study was to retrospectively investigate characteristics of 435 women who presented to the emergency department with the complaint of violence. Study data were collected through the “Domestic Violence Against Women Registry” forms that consisted of 26 questions investigating sociodemographic features of the women victims of violence and characteristics related to the violence. Risk assessment of violence was carried out with 5 items that were answered as ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. The forms were filled by healthcare staff with face-to-face interview technique. Majority of women victims of violence (n: 270) were primary school and middle school graduates. Of all participants, 399 (91.72%) were married and 307 (70.57%) were employed. The violence more commonly has occurred at home (89.66%). The most common type of violence was physical violence in 368 (84.60%) women. Women aged 30-40 years, those with a low level of education, a higher number of children, smokers and employed women were at a higher risk of being exposed to domestic violence. The education level of women should be increased. Emergency departments provide a good opportunity for clinicians to screen violence against women. With new measurement tools with proven reliability, a database can be created to guide policies and regulations to be made in future for prevention of violence against women.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130536969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The destructive effects of the pandemic are tried to be stopped all over the world. In this process, scientific methods should be applied to combat the pandemic. Personal precautions are personal hygiene, apply social isolation and strengthen the immune system, support a natural, balanced, healthy diet, support nutrition with exercise and have a healthy lifestyle. Strong individual immunity is the main factor in avoiding virus infection or the severity of the infection. Social isolation advice has changed the lifestyle of some individuals and brought with a sedentary lifestyle and an irregular diet. As an expected result of this condition, the immune system has been weakened. Therefore, switching to a natural and balanced diet that will create a strong immune system will protect against the destructive effects of the new type of corona virus pandemic. It is very important to supplement food containing vitamins, minerals, prebiotics and probiotics naturally with adequate water intake. Vitamin C, probiotics, prebiotics, thymoquinone, selenium and zinc supplements will strengthen the immune system, increase body resistance, thereby activating possible protective effects mechanisms for COVID-19 infection. Like many outbreaks caused by viruses, in cheif reason for fear was the infectious agent's potential to be transmitted from pregnant women to their fetuses and newborns. In our study, the hospital records of 117 pregnant women who delivered stillbirths in our clinic between 01.01.2015 and 31.12.2020 were examined. The pregnancy characteristics and perinatal outcomes were examined by making retrospective analysis of the records. Considering six year of the study data, it was observed that the stillbirth rates increased in the pandemic period. One hundred seventeen stillbirth cases that occurred in the last six years were analyzed. The mean age of the pregnant women was 29.64+6 (18-44) and parity was 2.54+1.58 (1-8). Body mass index was calculated as 21.36+3.40 (16-27) average and smoking consumption rate was 9.40% (11/117). Maternal diabetes was detected in 8.54% of the patients (10/117) and pregnancies were complicated by maternal hypertension in 5.12% of the patients (6/117). The average birth weight was 1597+1038 (500-4700) gram. Sixty percent of the deliveries (n=71) were performed by vaginally. Fetal sex was 52.1% male (n=61). The number of deliveries in the past six years was 11780. Almost 1% of the deliveries occurred as stillbirths (117/11780). The unusual stillbirth ratio during the pandemic was 3.1 times higher than the average of pre-pandemic period (2.5vs0.80). In our study, we investigated stillbirth rates before and during the pandemic. Although vertical transmission of Covid-19 has not been reported, the adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes have been provided in many studies. Undoubtedly, in obstetrical practice stillbirth is one of the most destructive consequences for pregnant women. Considering the increase in stillbirth rates, we think that pregnant women with adverse perinatal outcomes should be routinely tested for Covid-19, especially during the outbreak.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115838851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
