All rats except group 1 had 1h ischemia followed by 2h reperfusion to investigate the effects of urapidil through TAS, TOS, MDA, MPO, SOD, NF-κB, caspase-3, and LC3B. In terms of immunohistochemical staining with caspase 3, NF-κB and LC3B there was a statistical difference in group 1 compared with other groups (p <0.05). A statistically significant difference of MDA levels was only found between the treatment groups (groups 4 & 5) and Group 3. We suggest that urapidil decreases the oxidative damage in ischemia-reperfusion injury on the intestinal tissue of rats as a probable antioxidant.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115180692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Finger lengths vary in males and females and the male 2D:4D average is than the female 2D:4D. Evidence has been found in recent studies reflecting that the lengths of the second and fourth fingers correlate negatively with prenatal testosterone and positively with prenatal estrogen. The study aims to examine the correlation between the sex role of the physical education prospective teachers and the ratio of the second and fourth fingers (2D:4D). In this study, the 2D:4D ratio was measured on samples consisting of 105 female and 65 male university students. Participants were given and completed the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI). It has been found that low 2D:4D ratios in males significantly correlate to high masculinity type tendency scores on the BSRI, and that the 2D:4D ratio in females is not a determinant of femininity or masculinity type personality-based sex role identities. This study revealed that the BSRI and the 2D: 4D ratio differed by sex roles in males and 2D:4D ratio for males can be considered as an indicator of tendency towards masculinity type personality.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127983043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To the best of our knowledge, there has been no previous report in literature of how orthopaedic oncology is reflected in the media. In this context, the aim of this study was to present the representation of orthopaedic oncology in the media according to 2019 data. According to the statements of patients presenting at the orthopaedic oncology polyclinic, key words were defined as, bone cyst, bone cancer, bone metastasis, orthopaedic oncology, soft tissue sarcoma, bone cancer treatment, bone cancer symptoms, benign bone tumour, soft tissue cancer. News items presented in the media according to these key words were reviewed with the optical character recognition (OCR) methodology (Ajans Press Group®, Istanbul, Turkey). Screening was applied to almost 4000 newspapers and journals as printed press and more than 10,000 internet sites as the online environment. From the key words screened in the context of this study, there were seen to be a total of 473 news items in newspapers and journals in Turkey in 2019. The news items covered an area of 56310 column centimetres (colcm), and these news items were determined to have reached 44,377,922 people. The advertising equivalent value of the news items was calculated as 2,606,721 TL. The most frequently seen key words in the news items were bone cancer, soft tissue cancer, bone metastasis.These data are shown in detail in the tables. The results of this study, which examined the representation of orthopaedic oncology in the media over a one-year period, showed that half of the news items were in local press, and national representation was low. The field of orthopaedic oncology is poorly represented in the media, and this must be increased for patients to be able to access correct and reliable information.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122574786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Herein, we report a case who was initially suspected to have acute leukemia based on his atypical symptoms without any respiratory system involvement and deranged laboratory parameters and finally, diagnosed with COVID-19. Our patient presented with fever, myalgia, gum bleed, and petechiae. On clinical and laboratory evaluation, he was suspected to have acute leukemia based on markedly deranged serum lactate dehydrogenase and serum uric acid and the presence of atypical cells in peripheral blood smear and bone marrow. On day 3 of hospitalization, he developed respiratory symptoms, breathing difficulty which progressed to ARDS, and subsequently, he succumbed to his illness. His real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction test for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 yielded positive results. Also, Flow cytometry and fluorescence in situ hybridization studies for leukemia workup did not show any abnormalities. Although we are reporting the findings of only a single case, we aim to enhance and contribute further to the understanding of this novel infection.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121430734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New diagnostic criteriae has been released in 2016. The aim of this study was to show the efficiency of Surviving Sepsis Campaign diagnostic parameters and prognostic factors. 100 patients in intensive care unit of Izmir Ataturk Education and Research Hospital II. Anesthesiology and Reanimation ICU were included. The data of the patients were recorded according to the 2001 Survining Sepsis Campaign Criteria during the time interval of the study. Each parameter was assessed separately in both the survived (Group I) and deceased (Group II) patients. The specificity and sensitivity was calculated for each parameter with statistical significance. A total of 100 patients were evaluated. The mortality of sepsis patients was 46%. Among the SSC diagnostic criteria; respiratory rate, mental status, elevation of CRP and procalcitonin, presence of arterial hypoxemia, presence of acute oliguria, thrombocytopenia, aPTT elevation, hypotension and lactate elevation were determined as prognostic factors. Only the specificity and sensitivities of CRP (82% and 95%, respectively) and of procalcitonin (53% and 82%, respectively) were high. The 2001 SSC diagnostic criteria are useful in determining mortality in patients with sepsis in intensive care unit. Nevertheless, pre-screening of high-risk patients, avoidance of unnecessary admissions, and creating guidelines for approaching the patients with this disease will reduce mortality and morbidity rates.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124873317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the development of various nanoparticles, there have been new studies in this field related to the drug application routes and the effects of nanotechnology products. Drugs modified with nanoparticles have been found to be useful in transporting the drug to the target using systemic, oral, pulmonary, transdermal and other routes, in increasing the bioavailability capacity and protecting stability. The optic, fluorescent and magnetic properties of these nanoparticles are of particular benefit in the early determination of tumour cells and especially in the diagnosis and testing of various pathogenic and genetic diseases. Although studies related to the use of nanoparticles for treatment purposes are still very new, these types of studies have been published in literature in the last few years. The aim of this study was to evaluate the benefit of treatment with antibiotic-coated (enrofloxacin) magnetic nanoparticles added to the outside of a dressing and held on the wound area with the gravitational force of the magnets in an experimental rat model, where an operation wound had been infected with Staphylococcus aureus . Due to the magnetic areas of the magnets placed on the external wound region, the antibio-tic-coated nanoparticles were maintained at a high concentration in the wound region, and by showing an effect with a single application without metabolisation in the liver, long-term adverse effects on the liver and kidneys were avoided.","PeriodicalId":210978,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Academic Medicine and Pharmacy","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125178107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
