When studying the macroeconomic conditions that favor entrepreneurship, most studies analyze the problem from an organizational level. This article assumes the value of entrepreneurship as a mediating element in economic growth. It analyzes the most relevant legal and macroeconomic conditions that improve the suitable adjustment of entrepreneurial initiatives to the demands and available resources of a given economy. These conditions are not analyzed strictly from an economic perspective but in terms of their impact on the entrepreneurial function. To validate our hypotheses, a qualitative methodology focused on Latin American countries is used to reduce the heterogeneity of the cultural and historical context of the studied cases. The results reveal that low or moderate inflation, together with investment freedom and low tax burden, are the most determining factors of economic growth in Latin America.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140018526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In theory borrowing, the assumptions and reasoning mechanisms of the original theory may not be realized in the contemporary context. Consequently, the propositions of the borrowed theory may become inconsistent under influence of the properties of the contemporary context. In this respect, the theory propositions cannot be used without considering the impact of new context properties. There are situations where the properties of emerging technologies may directly or indirectly affect theory borrowing. In this study, we develop a model for theory borrowing in contemporary contexts. The model is novel in its reliance on the most foundational components of the theory structure (i.e., assumptions and reasoning mechanisms) in relation to properties of emerging technologies. We articulate that if the properties of an emerging technology can realize the assumptions and reasoning mechanisms of a theory, borrowing the theory is appropriate in the contemporary context. Also, we consider developing the theory propositions to accommodate technological properties. The validity of our model is corroborated by evaluating 14 theories used in blockchain literature. The results of the thematic analysis show how contemporary contexts with blockchain properties realize the assumptions and reasoning mechanisms of 14 theories. Moreover, we show how the propositions of 14 theories can adapt to blockchain properties. Our model contributes to successful theory-driven designs of emerging technology-oriented research to increase the managerial relevance of their results. Finally, we present a decision matrix to inform the practice of theory borrowing for scholarly inquiries.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"55 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140018422","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This process is approximated by a discrete skeleton process, which is consequently smoothed down by means of the original unconditional distribution. Approximated in this way, the problem is solvable by means of Markov Stochastic Dual Dynamic Programming. We state an upper bound for the nested distance between the exact process and its approximation and discuss its convergence in the one-dimensional case. We further propose an adjustment of the approximation, which guarantees that the approximate problem is bounded. Finally, we apply our technique to a real-life production-emission trading problem and demonstrate the performance of its approximation given the “true” distribution of the random parameters.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140005032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MICE sector has also been strongly affected by social and technological changes, especially new social habits resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Our research maps the state of the art in MICE tourism and its digitalization from 1997 (first published article found on the subject) to 2022, as well as the changes brought about by COVID-19 to the management of MICE tourism. To identify the main changes caused by COVID-19 pandemic in MICE tourism management, we carried out a survey based on surveys with Conference managers, Exhibition and Trade Fair Centers, and Convention Bureaus in Spain, a leading country in MICE tourism worldwide. For this purpose, we carried out a survey based on surveys with managers of Conference, Exhibition and Trade Fair Centers and Convention Bureaus in Spain, a leading country in MICE tourism worldwide, to identify the main changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused in the management of this type of tourism. Based on the results obtained, a bibliometric analysis was carried out using the software SciMAT to find out the thematic evolution of the terms MICE tourism, digital and Business Tourism. This study identifies the most significant topics in MICE tourism management during the pre-pandemic period (1997–2019), the pandemic, and post-pandemic period (2020–2022). We also analyzed the most cited concepts during 1997–2019, as well as their evolution towards other concepts in 2020–2022. Considering the results obtained, future lines of research related to innovation, digitalization, social networks, and destination analysis are proposed for a better and more competitive management of this tourism activity.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140004978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various corporate venturing (CV) modes have helped them achieve this goal. Yet, scholars and practitioners have noted the dynamic nature of CV initiatives that compete with other strategic initiatives for organizational resources and top management support. The fear that CV units face drastic cuts in times of crisis seems reasonable. To shed light on the resource dynamics and the CV units’ responsive actions, we conducted an abductive study with 16 CV units to analyze the CV units' response to the COVID-19 crisis that transformed the world in the spring of 2020. Our findings show that an external crisis can unsettle a CV unit’s internal legitimacy. In the adaption processes observed, we identify four different legitimacy-seeking mechanisms–adjusting, sensing, focusing, and mobilizing–used by the CV units to secure resources, support, and goodwill from relevant internal stakeholders. The mechanisms uncovered differ from previously studied strategies as they emphasize the dynamic nature of legitimation efforts. The mechanisms used are affected by the perceived organizational distress caused by the crisis and the CV unit’s pre-crisis legitimacy. Drawing on the critical role played by legitimacy in resource allocation decisions, this study allows us to better understand theoretically and practically how CV is embedded in organizational settings and how CV units can preserve internal (financial) resources.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"52 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139948465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scenario has raised important questions at the intersection of corporate entrepreneurship (CE) and digital technologies, as we currently lack a comprehensive understanding on the implications of digital technologies in CE strategy, related antecedents, processes, and outcomes. To fill this gap, our study takes stock of the extant literature on CE in the digital age. The existing information asymmetries between fund-seeking entrepreneurs and potential investors require the implementation of signaling strategies between both economic agents in order to generate trust and incentivize investment. This study performs a qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) to explore the interplay of visual content and social networks as information cues signaling trust. The data are sourced from Startupxplore, a Spanish equity crowdfunding platform. Configurational analysis reveals a certain degree of substitutability between traditional visual cues (images, videos) and reporting presence in social networks (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter). The results show different information disclosure strategies using traditional visual cues and social networks that lead to crowdfunding success and overfunding: substitute, mixed and unique strategies. The originality of this research lies in identifying such strategies using a configurational approach that addresses the causal complexity behind success and overfunding phenomena in equity crowdfunding, and in targeting visual cues and social networks presence as signals. This entails theoretical contributions to signaling theory in digital financial environments as well as managerial implications for entrepreneurial fundraising.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139769537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Little research has been conducted to examine the relationship between these organizational dimensions and innovation orientation. This study offers this and provides a particular type of companies (agribusiness) and context (Extremadura, Spain). Quantitative approach, by using structural modelling equations, to analyze data from 151 innovative agri-food firms was used in this study. Then, using a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), was carried out to obtain additional insights. The main result find that market orientation plays a key role both in exploitative and exploratory innovation in agribusiness firms. Innovation exploitation is influenced by the firm’s organic structure. Results from fsQCA provide valuable findings showing that innovation exploitation and exploration result from distinct organizational configurations, thus providing valuable insights for decision and policy-making.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"2021 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139769542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quantitative study is focused on the Italian equity crowdfunding market since Italy has been the first country in Europe to regulate this specific model and professional investors are required by law, thus allowing to compare the two classes of investors. Using a sample of 232 campaigns on the two leading Italian ECF platforms, empirical estimates based on regression analyses show that all the three classes of factors determine (or not) the campaigns’ success, and the overall performance is determined by non-professional investors’ orientation. Specifically, our results highlight that CSR orientation does not play a significant role in driving the success of equity crowdfunding campaigns, unlike the human capital and the compositions of ownership.
","PeriodicalId":20992,"journal":{"name":"Review of Managerial Science","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":5.5,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139657110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
