The main trends in development of mobile space communication in Russia are reflected in the Report. The basic performance characteristics of Russian satelites being developed and concepts of organisation of the mobile space commullication in Russia are adduced. Introduction The main trends and directions in the development of mobile satellite communication (MSS) in Russia are reflected in the Federal Space Program for the period of 1994-2000 (Federal Program), approved by the Government of Russia in December 1993. The start of creation of mobile means for satellite communication in the USSR and Russia was initiated in late 1970 by the launch of Horizont satellite, at which the C/L-band transponder was installed. As independently developed directions, the research orbital stations (manned and automatic), space telemetry and telecontrol, satellite communications, observation and remote sensing from space, space navigation, have seen the most expansion. Many SS use or will use an allocated telecommunications network, its channel, switching, program-operational resources, to give information to the end user, subscriber. In its turn, this network has trends to use widely analog SS resources. These facts are one of the principal motives for integrating many services of the switching support for the different purpose spacecrafts.","PeriodicalId":205681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Satellite Communications. For signals with slowly varying phase and frequency, the best performance is achieved with PLLs. However, PLLs cannot provide rapid acquisition with high probability when acquiring signals with high a priori phase and frequency uncertainty because of the hang-up phenomenon. This paper presents a new approach to the synthesis of PLLs employing the indirect nonlinear filtering theory. Through Monte Carlo simulations, the use of this approach is shown to allow the creation of a PLL devoid of the hang-up phenomenon. It also provides a wider pull-in range, more rapid acquisition without degrading the estimation accuracy in the tracking mode, and a lower probability of losing lock than the traditional algorithms of the PLL do.","PeriodicalId":205681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Satellite Communications. One of the approaches to resolve this problem is employment of antenna adaptive control methods. But in the case of a simple omnidirectional antenna these methods are useless, as they are based on multielement antennas. The proposed approach to resolve this problem is based on choosing the geometry of the antenna to form a null level of directivity according to the known supply current distribution. An omnidirectional antenna design for satellite terminal use is discussed. It consists of orthogonal crossed dipoles (each in x, y, z axis) possessing a common center. That system of three dipoles is able to form a null level of directivity according to their size ratio and power supply.","PeriodicalId":205681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Satellite Communications. A program for creating a satellite telecommunication system for the gas industry of Russia (system \"Yamal\") is being developed by JSC GAZCOM. The satellite system will be especially useful for the important gas production centres of the North-Tumen region in West Siberia, where terrestrial communications are not fully developed. This paper presents the results of a comparison of the reliability of the existing communication network and the future network using satellite communications. An original application program package was used for the calculations. The results obtained show that using satellite communication allows a reduction of the unavailability by more than tenfold.","PeriodicalId":205681,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of International Conference on Satellite Communications.
