Children are most susceptible to bacterial and viral infections. Methodology: The research design used in this study was the pre-experimental one group pre-test, post-test design. 60 under five mothers were selected by purposive sampling technique. The tools used for data collection was a structured knowledge questionnaire. As an intervention, administration of Planned Teaching Program on knowledge regarding Hand Foot Mouth Disease was given. Results: The study revealed that 40% of mothers were excellent, and 60% were good in terms of gaining knowledge on hand foot mouth disease after planned teaching program. In pre test Mean score was 12, SD 4.69 and mean percentage was44.44%. Whereas In post-test Mean was 21.67, SD was 3.33 and mean percentage was 80.26%. The ‘t’ test ( t 59 =25.95, p < 0.05) revealed that planned teaching program was highly effective in gaining knowledge among under five mothers. Conclusion: The findings of the study concluded that planned teaching program was highly effective in gaining knowledge among under five mothers.","PeriodicalId":205602,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Paediatric Nursing","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131756169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: the aim of the current study was to assess the needs and challenges as perceived by mothers and their hospitalized children having congenital anomalies. Design: a descriptive exploratory research design was utilized to fit the aim of the current study. Setting: the study was conducted in the pediatric surgical ward in Cairo University Specialized Pediatric Hospital (CUSPH). Sample: A purposive sample of 100 mothers and their children with congenital anomalies participated in the current study. Data collection tools: data was collected using the following tools: A structured interview questionnaire, parent needs scale, children needs questionnaire and children challenges questionnaire. Results: the results revealed that, higher mean score of needs for mothers and their children such as emotional support; communication with medical team, participation in child care, mothers closeness, nutrition, learning and guidance. Higher mean score of challenges for mothers and their children such as health team communication, family acceptance, social stigma, poor mothers bonding, parent stress and financial responsibility. There were statistically significant correlations between mothers’ challenges and their ages, place of residence and educational level, such as knowledge about surgical management, poor mothers bonding, parent stress, stigma, financial challenges and family acceptance. There were statistical significant correlations between children needs such as learning, child and mother closeness, support and guidance with their ages. Conclusion: the study findings of the current study presented higher levels of mother's needs and challenges with their children having congenital anomalies. Recommendation: Empowerment programs and supportive care for mothers and their children with congenital anomalies are mandatory.","PeriodicalId":205602,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Paediatric Nursing","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134279944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Music therapists regard music therapy as a valuable intervention for students with moderate to severe intellectual disability or multiple disabilities. The present study was aimed to assess the effectiveness of music therapy on behavior among mentally challenged children. Methods and Samples : A modified time series approach design was used to evaluate 30 mentally challenged children who fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were selected using purposive sampling technique. The tool used was modified MR Scale Part B. Result : The findings reveal that the mean behaviour score at pre-assessment was 26.53 ± 7.46 and after 45 days of music therapy the mean behaviour score was 17.23 ± 9.56. The difference was found to be statistically significant at p=0.001. Thus, there was a significant improvement in the behavior among mentally challenged children. Conclusion: This study implies that the music therapy was effective in improving the behavior in mentally challenged children.","PeriodicalId":205602,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Paediatric Nursing","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132635126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of mothers’ empowerment program on premature infants’ attachment and weight gain. In order to represent the current research, the design of quasi-experimental was implemented. The study was conducted at Center for Social and Preventive Medicine in premature outpatient clinic in the Cairo University Specialized Pediatric Hospital (CUSPH). A convenience sample of 60 premature infants and their mothers was participated in the current study; mothers and their preterm infants were split into two equal groups: 30 as a control group and 30 as a study group. The data was collected using the following tools: a structured interview questionnaire sheet, mother's knowledge assessment questionnaire (pre/posttest), practices observational checklists, maternal postnatal attachment scale and standardized weight growth chart. The results revealed that, the mothers in the study group who received empowerment program had a higher overall mean score of knowledge and practices rather than mothers in the control group. There were statistically significant differences were detected for infant's weight in the study group before and after empowerment program rather than infants in the control group. As well as, there were statistically significant differences were detected for attachment scale in the study group before and after empowerment program rather than a control group. As well as the mothers who received the empowerment program there were increased weight and attachment for their premature infants.","PeriodicalId":205602,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Research in Paediatric Nursing","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114720582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cry pattern, facial expression and body movements are behavior indication of children. Inadequate relief of pain during childhood painful procedure may have long- term negative effects on future pain tolerance and pain responses (Ann Emerg Medical 2005).
