One of these approaches employs MLP as a post-processor for HMM while the other uses HMM to segment the speech signal for MLP. The performance of hybrid recognizers is compared with discrete HMM and multilayer perceptrons. All of the implemented recognizers were speaker-independent and a 50-word vocabulary spoken in Brazilian Portuguese was employed in their evaluation. The speech signal was parametrized using mel-frequency cepstrum coefficients, mel-frequency cepstrum coefficients with cepstral mean removal, energy and delta coefficients.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings. The proposed algorithm uses a priori knowledge about internal decoder parameters. The G.728 frame synchronisation fails, if an octet slip in the transmission system occurs. This error type causes a shift of the word boundaries in the G.728 data stream. The decoder produces in this case a loud and noisy output signal. The proposed algorithm can be implemented as an add-on in a regular G.728 decoder, without changing the standard operation of the codec. Three classification methods, the Euclidian distance classifier, McCulloch-Pitts network and feedforward neural network are compared with respect to their performance and complexity.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings. The design of the model is presented along with a brief description of SimATM, an ATM network simulator developed at UNICAMP. The resulting self-similar model is compared with real network data from Bellcore Ethernet traffic measurements. Results of simulations with synthetic traffic traces are presented for a simple ATM network. These results clearly indicate that simple Poisson traffic models underestimate real network losses by several orders of magnitude.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings. IPv6 is the most influential issue in the near-future high-speed large global Internet. And, the routing schemes of IPv6 routers will play the key role in achieving the requirements of a high-speed large global Internet for creating multimedia-based universal PCS. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a new concept of a hierarchical routing scheme for improving the routing in IPv6. The first part of the paper conducts an analysis of IPv6-based Internet with its routing requirements. The second part proposes an architectural hierarchical routing concept in order to achieve better efficiency and performance in the future IPv6-based Internet. The last part proposes the improvement of RIPng by taking advantage of our proposed architecture to make the so-called HRIPng for accomplishing better results which can work systematically as an IGP in any size of AS and core-router AS.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings. The synchronization mechanisms and the developed multimedia synchronization service are based on the XOCPN (extended object composition Petri net) model. The paper describes aspects concerning the system implementation, including the implementation architecture and environment, the XOCPN data structures and the specialized modules related to the synchronization mechanism. The presented system provides a complete support to applications that communicate multimedia data and helps users to compose multimedia objects. The proposed implementation seems to be very efficient.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings. SBT/IEEE International Telecommunications Symposium (Cat. The optimized LP coefficients lead to a polynomial whose zeros contain information about the frequencies. The study of the behavior of these zeros leads to a new strategy capable of lowering the threshold effect at low SNR. Simulations show that is possible to achieve better results than the maximum likelihood (ML) method without any significant additional effort.","PeriodicalId":205350,"journal":{"name":"ITS'98 Proceedings.
