With games based learning methods such as digital game based learning, serious games and more recently gamification. Yet, with the increasing tasks of teachers nowadays, the use of gamification; game elements in non-gaming context, has been gaining momentum. Although there has been research that has shown the effects of gamification on learning, the fundamental of game elements on learning via traditional and online method has been less ventured into. Thus, a mixed method research was carried out using a gamification platform as a mediator for students learning Science. The eight week gamified online intervention was carried out in tandem with the traditional classroom. The game elements used were points and badges whilst leaderboard was reflected on the amount of points and badges. The findings based on the interviews with the participants found all the elements plays a part in engaging the interest of students in learning, more so badges and leaderboard. It was also identified that certain elements are preferred to acquire either online or offline.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133701621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these kinds of music especially caklempong traditional music is still unfamiliar among the younger generation. Traditional music has facing an issue since generation nowadays is preferred on popular music rather than these kinds of music. Therefore, this research was aimed to preserve the caklempong traditional music by integrating it into a mobile game in instilling Malaysian youths' interest in traditional music. Before this research, the pilot study included pilot survey, interview and visual analysis has been conducted to measure the youths' awareness towards this music and to identify the most appropriate game design contents in designing this game. Based on data collected from the pilot study, the caklempong mobile game was developed. Three groups of students aged between 20–25 years old from three higher education institutions in Shah Alam; Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM,) University of Selangor (Unisel) and Management and Science University (MSU) have been randomly selected to test the effectiveness of the game in encouraging youth towards this music. The result showed that mobile game is an effective medium to entice youths' interest towards traditional music.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115562469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mini-NTRU uses smaller parameter sets while maintaining the original structure of NTRU, with the sole purpose of enabling undergraduate and graduate students who have basic cryptography knowledge understand the basic principles of NTRU operation. Once these basic principles are grasped, they can be applied to larger parameter sets which are applicable in real-world scenarios. The parameter sets presented in this paper are not considered secure for practical real-world application. The study focuses on binary polynomials with the purpose of providing better insight for educational purposes which will make it easy for students to understand and use NTRU. A table of various private key combinations is also provided, which will provide an avenue for more practice using mini-NTRU. An illustration of how decryption failure occurs is also provided using mini-NTRU.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126806294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, it is empirical that these students acquire all the necessary skills including the basic knowledge that they need in order to make them competent workers. So, there is a need of a skill performance measurement method in identifying these capable engineers with strong basic skills among the graduates. One of the basic skills that they must have is competency in electrical circuits. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop a Rasch performance measurement scale of the engineering students on their competency in basic electricity concepts. For this purpose, the Rasch Measurement Model was utilized to examine the items and persons reliability, the uni-dimensionality of the test and also the misfit items and persons. The test focuses on the six main domains of electricity which are \"the meaning of parallel\", \"practical knowledge of current, voltage and resistance\", \"circuit connection\" and \"problem solving using mental models\". The research was conducted on 102 Engineering students in a local university in Malaysia. Results revealed that these engineering students can be classified into six types of scale: excellent, capable, above average, average, weak and very weak. The application of this scale enables the identification of the competency in electricity skills among the engineering students, whom will be the future engineers.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114254456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve these two objectives, an instructional teaching strategy combining the attributes of visual analogy and concept-in-context maps (CC maps) is been illustrated. In this case, engineering strain-stress curve of metals enumerating variation in its strength was used as the subject to be taught to mechanical engineering freshmen. The technical questionnaires, feedback forms and random interviews unveiled three significant things. First, analogy fostered interest and exposed students to creative form of learning. Second, mapping helped in the development of technical inventory. Finally the synergistic treatment of both techniques assisted freshmen to gain complete confidence to attempt any subject related technical query.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126533334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since most of the students are second or other language speakers of English, they often face problems in understanding technical terminology in the language. Such phenomenon is known as Vocabulary Problems. Failure to understand the real meaning of the terminology will result in the misunderstanding of the concept of the subject. In order to understand a subject, students should be able to translate the technical term and comprehend the concept to find solutions for any related problems. At present, students and instructors heavily rely on the ‘Buku Istilah Kejuruteraan’, (Engineering Terminology) published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka. However, the book is only available in its hardcopy version and bulky. This makes it rather inconvenient to carry around. Thus, this study proposes the development of AMIT (Aplikasi Mudah Istilah Teknologi), a mobile application that can be used in both in and outside classroom for quick, updated and convenient reference for equivalent technical terminology in English and BM. With the ardent availability of technological application nowadays, AMIT can be used as education tools and digital content for engineering students. The fact that AMIT is mobile, compatible and easy to be downloaded for any android smart phones makes it useful for student own learning beyond classroom sessions.","PeriodicalId":202625,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE 8th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131416740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
