Most of them are linear combination of signals and impulses of the system. They are too simple to make in-depth analysis of the parameters of the system. Then, a spatial impulse response based model is proposed for the acoustic detection system, which is derived from the basic theory of sound propagation and geometrical relation of the system. And the physical meaning of the model is explicit. In this way, the model can be applied to predict and determine the parameters of the detection system, and it is the basic theory in signal processing of the system. The simulated results and the measured received signals are compared, and it is shown that the simulated and measured results are in good agreement.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"139 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125246165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mechanism of acoustic emissions of water stress in plant was studied and a measurement analysis method was suggested. The acoustic emission signal in the plant was regarded as point sound source, and the cylindrical surface-spherical surface non-conformal acoustic holography transform technology based on BEM was adopted to study the identification and localization of sound sources of water stress in the plant. Fewer receiving layers were used to collect the most typical space sound field information, and to make them play the main role in the plant sound field analysis. Aiming at the character of acoustic emission signal, the method of choosing wavelet function was given in the paper. In order to improve the identification accuracy of the sound source, the method of wavelet analysis was used by combining with acoustic holography.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114151482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current products based on dielectric or SAW resonators are not enough either due to the size or the circuit loss. Film bulk acoustic resonators (FBAR) are the latest technology offering small size and high frequency RF components to the fast growing personal wireless communication technology. We reviewed the current state-of-art of the FBAR technology and explained the working mechanism of FBAR. With two major vibration models, thickness-extension and thickness-shear, we also described the FBAR structure and principle of material selection. Furthermore, we analyzed the effect of electrodes on the vibration frequency, and explained the choice of quarter wavelength reflectors in the SMR. We want to provide essential concepts and knowledge about FBAR technology to engineers who are interested in studying it further. With enough knowledge on the vibration models and materials, the design method of FBAR and SMAR can be established with accurate analysis.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122690655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The governing equations for the pyroelectrics are written in the compact algebraic form. Four characteristic wave velocities are found, three being analogous to those of elastic waves and the fourth wave, which is predominantly a temperature disturbance, corresponding to the heat pulse known as the second sound. From computing example for BiTiO3 it is found that all the velocities and attenuation coefficients are related to the wave normal and the material constants. The effect of the electric properties on the wave propagation is considered, which indicates that the temperature wave is not sensitive to pyroelectricity and piezoelectricity in the discussed case. The effects of the terms containing relaxation time on the attenuation are researched in detail in one-dimensional case, where 11 cases are discussed. It is found that larger relaxation time affects the wave more; the electric relaxation could be ignored in real situation, while the elastic relaxation and heat inertia are considerable; the heat inertia term can amplify the mechanical wave and its role is opposite to the elastic and pyroelectric damping terms.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125334486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The water droplet increases in size with the driving time, and begins to rotate around the tip of the hypodermic needle when the diameter of the droplet is large enough. The rotating droplet falls off when its diameter is larger than a critical value of several millimeters. For a given operating voltage, the revolution speed, maximum diameter and lifetime of a droplet can be controlled by the operating frequency of the ultrasonic transducer. A revolution speed up to 16.7 rev/s has been achieved.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128765877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The constitutive equations and the finite element model of the IDEs 1-3 mode piezoelectric fiber sensor are also established. Moreover, we explore the effect of the key size of IDEs and the diameter of the piezoelectric fiber on performance of IDEs 1-3 mode piezoelectric fiber sensor. It demonstrates that the electric displacement produced in X by this sensor is about three times of that produced in Y, thus this sensor we designed possess more obvious orthotropy and can distinguish stress waves from the different directions. The sensing performance can be effectively improved by selecting proper interval among fibers and reducing the central distance of electrodes, width of electrode face, and the diameter of the fiber. All these achievements lay a solid foundation for further research.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125874908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are four pairs of cantilevers outside the cylindrical stator, and four PZT ceramics are set between each pair of cantilevers. The PZT ceramics together with a pair of cantilevers compose a longitudinal transducer. The bending mode of cylindrical stator is excited by the longitudinal vibration of PZT ceramics. Thus, linear simple harmonic motions are achieved at the particle on the teeth. And the frictional force between rotor and stator is the driving force to realize the rotational motion of rotor. The PZT ceramics work with d33 mode, which have high electromechanical coupling efficiency and could improve the output characteristics. The working principle of proposed motor was analyzed. The cylinder and longitudinal transducer were designed with FEM. The sensitive parameters of resonant frequency of transducers and cylinder were gained with modal analysis. The longitudinal resonant frequency of transducers and bending resonant frequency of cylinder were degenerated, and the motion trajectories of nodes on the teeth were analyzed. The results of this study could be useful in the development of this new type of ultrasonic motor.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126595750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The HEDD-CSM combines the extended displacement discontinuity method (EDDM) and the charge simulation method (CSM). The solution for an electrically impermeable crack is approximately expressed by a linear combination of fundamental solutions of the governing equations which includes the extended point force fundamental solutions with the sources placed at chosen points outside the domain of the problem under consideration and the extended Crouch fundamental solutions with the extended displacement discontinuities placed on the crack. The coefficients of the fundamental solutions are determined by letting the approximated solution satisfy the conditions on the boundary of the domain and on the crack face. The center cracks in piezoelectric strips are analyzed by HEDD-CSM. The stress intensity factors and the electric displacement intensity factor are calculated. Meanwhile the effect of finite domain size on these intensity factors is studied. One of the most interesting findings is that the intensity factor KII decouples from K1 and KD even in a finite piezoelectric medium.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131753866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study makes an attempt to test the influence of tumor sizes on the reflecting line of ultrasound pressure by numerical simulating the CARI technique for breast tumors with the modified Szabo's model. Our numerical results show that the reflecting line of ultrasound pressure changes obviously with the sizes of tumors.
