Although a mathematical description of the motor is well-known in literature, the model is sensitive to parameters variations. Moreover it is impossible to modelize in a mathematical way the system composed by the motor and the inverter together. A neuro fuzzy network, trained with a set of I/O measures, it is able to identify the whole system. We describe in a general way how it is possible to derive first and second order stochastic approximation methods that provide learning capabilities. We show how certain variables, the sensitivities of the ANN outputs, play a key role in the ANN optimization process. Then we describe how some useful and elementary tools known in circuit theory can be used to compute these sensitivities with a low computational cost. Examples are the use of non-ideal activation functions which are truncated, asymmetric, and have a non-standard gain, restriction of the network parameters to non-negative values, and the use of limited accuracy for the weights. In this paper an adaptation of the backpropagation learning rule is presented that compensates for these three non-idealities. The good performance of this learning rule is illustrated by a series of experiments. Campolo","doi":"10.1109/ISNFS.1996.603825","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISNFS.1996.603825","url":null,"abstract":"This paper aims to show how and why a hybrid neuro-fuzzy data processing approach yields a novel, efficient way to treat ill-posed inverse problems. Two practical examples of such problems in applied computational electromagnetics are presented. The first one concerns the eddy current testing of conducting cylindrical structures in which the use of fuzzy knowledge is shown to improve the capability of discriminating within buried and surface cracks. Secondly, an identification problem in a nuclear fusion application is adequately solved by a priori resolving conflicting goals of the optimization procedure. In both examples, the fuzzy part of the system is basically used to manage the strategy of selection of the proper region of the working space. In this way, the accuracy of the identification is strongly improved. This suggest that the combined use of the fuzzy expansions and of the multidimensional feature extraction capabilities of neural networks can play a relevant role in inverse problem analysis.","PeriodicalId":187481,"journal":{"name":"1st International Symposium on Neuro-Fuzzy Systems, AT '96.
