Web-based social networking has grown multi-fold and has become an integral part of individual's lives and business environment. Facebook alone has about 1.5 billion users and is growing. Web Socio-Networking (WSN) fosters communication and is useful to expand business contacts and to reach out enormous subscribers. WSN has become increasing pervasive at workplace. Networking is important to organisations and individuals and WSN provides the convergence of technology with human interaction interface to build relationships with external, internal and known contacts. Hence, organisations need to develop an efficient WSN usage strategy to heighten its capability. Although WSN is not new, enterprises are now contemplating its effects on its people and organisation performance. This paper examines the positive and negative perceptional impact of hyper usage of social networking sites at workplace on career management processes. This paper does not argue the implications of hyper usage of WSN at workplace on the organisational outcomes. To ascertain the impact on career management processes, this paper applies empirical and statistical analysis on the data obtained by primary survey undertaken for about 8 months, to obtain responses from over 1000 employee professionals across 50 countries, from varied industry segments and organisations. The practical application of this study is strategic and contemporary, as the findings will be valuable for organisations, employees, institutions, and active users of social networking sites.","PeriodicalId":184815,"journal":{"name":"LBS Journal of Management & Research","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120896697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the purpose of testing the efficiency, data have been collected for NIFTY spot and near-month futures for a period of 5 years. The tests for market efficiency include Causality test, Johansen Co-Integration test and Error Correction Mechanism. The paper examines efficiency of the stock index futures market during recent past when the Indian stock markethadundergone a very high level of volatility. Daily data from October 2009 to September 2014 pertaining to near month S&P CNX Nifty index futures contracts traded on the national stock exchange (NSE) has been analysed using a number of econometric models including co-integration tests with vector auto regression framework, causality testing and error correction mechanism. The key contribution of this paper is a detailed analysis of the causal relationship between spot and futures prices at the NSE by using the impulse response functions of the vector error-correction model which has enabled us to study the behaviour of series from real shocks during this period of intense volatility. The results show that despite high volatility the index futures and spot prices in India form a stable long-run relationship. The results will have important implications for trading of index futures contracts in India. The findings will also be of great use to financial managers dealing with stock index futures for hedging.","PeriodicalId":184815,"journal":{"name":"LBS Journal of Management & Research","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115797867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over more than two decades, India's history of economic reforms is characterised by the service-driven growth, huge potential market and handsome demographic dividend yet the share of her world trade is still below one percentage point. Service sector contribution in GDP has crossed 60% but the manufacturing sector is still roaming around 15% of the GDP. The relativelyl agged ranking in Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) over the last 10 years has posed a serious question before the policy planners to devise a set of reforms in manufacturing sector for achieving balanced growth and improving competitiveness ranking. Although service-led economy has created employment opportunities to skilled people, the unskilled and semi-skilled population find it difficult to gain employment. The countries enjoying higher rankings on competitiveness index are better off in manufacturing leverage. The recent policy reforms by the government aim to address the skewed growth pattern and oriented towards achieving global competitiveness. Based on secondary data from authenticated publications, this paper is authored with an objective to review the policy pitfalls and government's initiative to boost manufacturing for achieving global competitiveness. The causes of lacklustre performance of manufacturing and convergence issues of the reforms have also been analysed.","PeriodicalId":184815,"journal":{"name":"LBS Journal of Management & Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128645916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
