A notable feature of PLA is its ability to undergo self-deformation when heated above its glass transition temperature (Tg), with deformation behavior adjustable through printing and structural parameters, making it a promising candidate for smart gripping applications. This study quantitatively assesses the self-deformation performance of an electrically responsive PLA composite activated via Joule heating. Using a testing framework with 3D-printed U-shaped samples in two scenarios; the material demonstrates effective self-bending, achieving over 70% deformation in the first scenario, and a temperature increase up to 80 °C in the second. These findings support the potential of using electro-responsive PLA in smart gripping applications.
","PeriodicalId":18107,"journal":{"name":"Macromolecular Symposia","volume":"414 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144309082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the efficacy of a moving walkway system in mitigating pedestrian congestion in this densely populated route. The study employs mass service theory and computer simulations to examine various conveyor designs, including single and multichannel systems, evaluating their effects on service metrics such as average waiting time, flow rate, and system capacity. The data, gathered over three weeks, indicates peak traffic patterns, establishing a foundation for precise demand modelling. Research indicates that multichannel moving walkways are very efficient in alleviating congestion and ensuring steady pedestrian movement. These insights provide urban planners with pragmatic options to enhance pedestrian mobility and infrastructure efficacy in urban corridors, facilitating a transition toward sustainable and accessible urban transportation design.
","PeriodicalId":18107,"journal":{"name":"Macromolecular Symposia","volume":"414 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/masy.70062","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144309165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, only a fraction of wood ash undergoes recycling, with the majority being disposed of in landfills. Enhancing wood ash recycling can mitigate environmental harm, reduce transportation expenses, and minimize waste disposal. This study aims to investigate the stability of a geopolymer incorporating 30% wood ash as a filler material. The ashes, sourced from beech wood, are sieved and mixed with a metakaolin-based geopolymer matrix. The samples, cured at room temperature (25 °C) for 24 h, are evaluated through integrity tests, mass loss evaluation, FT-IR, and SEM analyses. The results of the integrity test and mass loss evaluation confirmed the stability of the geopolymers in water, with a mass loss of less than 1% after 56 days. The FT-IR peak analysis confirmed the occurrence of geo-polymerization and the incorporation of the ashes into the geopolymer paste. Finally, the SEM results showed the uniform surface of the samples and the good distribution of the ashes within the geopolymer network.
","PeriodicalId":18107,"journal":{"name":"Macromolecular Symposia","volume":"414 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/masy.70019","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144309169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accurately predicting fatigue life allows engineers to design more resilient structures, reduce maintenance costs, and prevent catastrophic failures with severe safety and economic consequences. This research investigates advanced methods for analyzing fatigue in mechanical systems, with a focus on agricultural machinery. By combining multibody dynamics (MBD) and finite element analysis (FEA), the study addresses the challenges of durability in components essential to the performance and operational lifespan of agricultural vehicles. The empirical analysis centers on the cleaning system of a combine harvester, using simulations to predict fatigue life and identify critical failure points. The integration of flexible body dynamics into the MBD model enabled a more accurate representation of the system's dynamic properties, with simulation results validated by experimental data. The study highlights the advantages of combining MBD and FEA for fatigue analysis, offering insights into broader applications in mechanical design and contributing to the development of safer, more durable agricultural machinery.
","PeriodicalId":18107,"journal":{"name":"Macromolecular Symposia","volume":"414 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/masy.70068","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144308691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Laser texturing, laser cleaning, and their combination are produced by adopting a 30 W nanosecond pulsed Yb:YAG laser. Parallel grooves, perpendicular to the load direction, varying in depth, width, and areal density are adopted as textured geometrical features. To assess the performance of laser treatments a central composite design (CCD) experimental plan is adopted to evaluate the apparent shear strength of single-lap joint test (ASTM D1002-10). Then, for the more promising treatment conditions, fatigue tests are carried out according to the ASTM D3166-99 standards, and cycles to failure are adopted to quantify the treatments. In addition, mechanical surface treatment (sandpaper polishing) is adopted as a reference treatment. Findings demonstrate that laser treatments significantly enhance the fatigue life of the joints (up to six times), offering a promising alternative to traditional mechanical methods.
","PeriodicalId":18107,"journal":{"name":"Macromolecular Symposia","volume":"414 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/masy.70060","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144308697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite these advancements, one of the persistent challenges hindering the full potential of FFF is precision inconsistency due to the cyclical thermal gradient, limiting the potential of manufacturing dimension-sensitive parts. Acknowledging this concern, this study introduces numerical simulations to predict flexural specimen dimensions before manufacturing. The primary objective is to correlate the numerical model with experimental data. This research fills a notable gap in the literature on additive manufacturing materials by focusing on high-temperature resilient composites, such as nylon-short carbon fibers. The simulation methodology incorporates all relevant manufacturing parameters, following the deposition path to minimize discrepancies between the expected and actual dimensions. The results show a strong correlation between the simulation outputs and experimental data, including thermal images and dimensional measurements. In conclusion, this validated numerical approach allows for dimensional corrections in the design of simple to complex parts made of high-temperature-resilient composites manufactured via FFF.
","PeriodicalId":18107,"journal":{"name":"Macromolecular Symposia","volume":"414 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144309026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
