Also we evaluate existing process' equipment performance and point to improvement opportunities. Recommendations for the best operating set-points to run its EAF efficiently are presented. For compensating the reactive energy and increasing the power factor are presented three solutions. By the proposed automation solutions of the auxiliary installations is obtained a substantial reduction of the energy consumption and the defects of mechanical nature. The SVC compensation solution of the reactive energy is the best one, but has also the highest costs.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123787202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major problems of operating a FC in high power applications is high FC ripple current, in which may lead to reduce its stack lifetime. Thus, to improve the FC stack lifetime, a proposed parallel power converter with interleaving technique is chosen to boost a low dc voltage of FC to a dc bus utility level. The present interleaved step-up converters are composed of two and four identical boost converters connected in parallel. Converters are controlled by interleaved switching signals, which have the same switching frequency and the same phase shift. During the past decade, power electronics research has focused on the development of interleaved parallel converters. For an interleaving technique with a real FC source, this work is the first presentation; it is not just a FC simulation. So, the design and experimental verification of 1.2-kW prototype converters at a switching frequency of 25 kHz connected with a Nexa TM PEM fuel cell system (1.2-kW, 46-A) in a laboratory is presented. Experimental results corroborate the excellent system performances.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121054700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Diesel particulate filter (DPF) has been established as a key technology in reducing diesel particulate emission. However, technological improvements to pressure drop, durability, and insufficient collection efficiency for nanoparticles are still required. Electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is another leading technology used in exhaust treatment, but it is currently limited to applications for stationary sources. In this paper, we have proven that concurrent use of ESP and DPF shows synergetic effects with very high collection efficiency and slower increase of the pressure drop. The number concentration of particles observed downstream of the combined system was 98% less compared with that of DPF only. At the same time, it was confirmed that increase in the pressure drop of DPF was slower. In this paper, the filter that was exposed to exhaust gas was observed by using scanning electron microscope. In addition, potential increase by charged particles on the surface of the filter was measured with a suction-type Faraday cage. The influence of the diesel particulate exerting on DPF by such an experiment was able to be clarified.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124865190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, they are very reliable with an expected lifetime in the order of 30 to 50 years depending on service class. However, when a machine fails, sometimes unexpectedly, production disruption and downtimes can be very costly. About 50% of failures are related with loss of dielectric strength of the electrical insulation. Insulation deterioration is caused by the combination of thermal, mechanical, electrical and environmental stresses. Timely detection of insulation condition can be done mainly with off-line partial discharges monitoring and dielectric losses monitoring. This paper reviews the current issues involved in the diagnostics of insulation condition for an effective risk evaluation of electrical machines, highlighting the most relevant topics regarding mining application, where environmental conditions and feeding with power converters states more severe stresses than normal power applications.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128360201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The critical clearing time for circuit breaker tripping to isolate the fault is derived by considering the low voltage ride through capability of WG and the reactive power compensation by STATCOM system. To restore the stable operation of the microgrid after the fault transient disturbance, an adaptive load shedding scheme is proposed to disconnect proper amount of nonessential loads according to the feeder loading and wind speed so that the tripping of WG due to under frequency constraint can be prevented. A Taipower distribution system has been selected for computer simulation to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy to determine the setting feeder CB tripping and load shedding to improve the power system stability of distribution feeder with wind generator.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128713177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the proposed MRPID controller, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is used to decompose the error between actual and set temperatures of ambient air of the battery storage system into different frequency components at various scales. The wavelet transformed coefficients of the temperature error at different scales of the DWT are scaled by the suitable gains and are added together to generate the control signal of the MRPID controller for the battery storage system. The performances of the proposed wavelet controller are investigated in simulation and experiments for different operating conditions of the battery storage system. The proposed wavelet controller is implemented in real time for the process thermal system PT326 using the digital signal processor board ds1102. Although the operational principles of such facilities are well established and extensively applied, demonstrations of actual stirring effects on molten metal are always desired for relative investigations. A hot-mode experimental apparatus of electromagnetic stirring system with liquid zinc has been successfully developed and established in the laboratory and the exhibited phenomena have confirmed the requirements for electromagnetic stirring applications. The performances of the experimental apparatus are further confirmed by detail 3-D finite element analyses (FEA). This paper proposes a novel two-layer constant-power control scheme for a wind farm equipped with doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbines. Each DFIG wind turbine is equipped with a supercapacitor energy storage system (ESS) and is controlled by the low-layer WTG controllers and coordinated by a high-layer wind-farm supervisory controller (WFSC). The WFSC generates the active-power references for the low-layer WTG controllers according to the active-power demand from the grid operator; the low-layer WTG controllers then regulate each DFIG wind turbine to generate the desired amount of active power, where the deviations between the available wind energy input and desired active power output are compensated by the ESS.
