The final objective of the strategy is improving the speed of convergence of the adaptive filter and reduces the steady- state error. Two cases are presented and discussed, one with a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) adaptive filter with 32 coefficients and another with an adaptive notch filter. The Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm was used to adjust the coefficients in the both cases. Simulations using Matlab are presented to clarify the algorithm. Also practical implementation is performed using the DSP Texas Instruments TMS320F2812 and the results depicted. Important aspects concerning the calculation time of the adaptive filter, convergence speed during changes in the load and the steady-state error, are presented.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117287909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper addresses the global stability study of an electrical system containing a DC power supply, an LC Filter and a constant power load. This latter is realized by a voltage source inverter–Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor or Induction Motor. To stabilize the system, the control structure is slightly modified to implement a nonlinear stabilization block. This allows reducing the dc-link capacitance value and size which is important in aerospace applications. A drive consisted of an LC input filter connected to an inverter-PMSM designed for aircraft application is treated as an illustrative example. Simulations and experimentations confirm the validity of the proposed approach. Keywords-Nonlinear systems, ac drives, dc-link capacitance, stabilization, robustness.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134269704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That is why proper specification, design, operation and maintenance are needed together with condition monitoring and diagnostics. Concerning the application, it must be considered a comprehensive system design, including manufacturing, testing, installation, operation and maintenance, regarding dielectric strength of insulation, materials, structural and mechanical fixations for ensuring expected lifetime. One key issue is the insulation aging because of thermal, mechanical, electrical and chemical factors. Any detrimental effect is progressive and affects lifetime of the machine insulation. Partial discharges activity is one sign of aging of insulation, stating the needs of proper monitoring and diagnostics regarding the insulation condition. There are important experiences with bus-connected machines, but relative few documented experience regarding mining applications. This paper gives a review and discussion of the main topics and recommendations given by the industry practice and by standards with the objective of helping engineers to identify course of actions for ensuring better reliability of high power electrical machines employed in utility and mining applications. The important issue of dc current sharing between the dual inverters is implemented by a simple Space Vector based PWM scheme for both current source inverters. A second alternative scheme to achieve dc link current sharing using a simple flux-based control is also proposed and implemented by regular sine-triangle PWM scheme. The operation of dual current source inverters is validated under both normal supply voltages, load transients and supply side faults or voltage sags. Detailed simulation results are presented to validate the operation of the dual current source inverter for high power drives applications.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123630096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The voltage and frequency (VF) of the stand alone WECS is controlled using a voltage source converter (VSC) with a battery energy storage system (BESS) at its dc link. A Scott-connected transformer is proposed for the neutral current compensation of the three-phase four-wire distribution system. The VF controller consists of IGBTs (insulated gate bipolar transistors) based voltage source converter (VSC). The VF controller injects/ absorbs both active and reactive powers and hence controls frequency and voltage of the system. It also acts as a harmonic compensator and load balancer. The proposed WECS along with its VF controller are modelled and simulated using MATLAB with its Simulink and power system block set (PSB) tool boxes.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116286717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, because of high secondary currents (often exceeding 100 kARMS), differential protection systems for electric arc furnace transformers have not been applied in the past due to the lack of commercially available CTs. This paper will present differential protection systems that have been in use for many years using Rogowski coil current sensors. These protection systems use high-precision printed circuit board Rogowski coil current sensors. This paper reviews the characteristics, designs, and application of these Rogowski coil sensors for advanced protection, control, and metering systems with new multifunction relays. This paper compares performance characteristics of new solutions based on Rogowski coil sensors with the conventional differential protection systems based on CTs, demonstrating that the new systems do not have the limitations of conventional technology. Operating experience from several site applications is included.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"143 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124583105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The electronic ballast is formed by a self-oscillating command circuit and an additional circuit. This circuit is used to guaranty the rated power of the fluorescent lamp through the voltage gain variation of the resonant filter. Thus, the switching frequency changes based on feedforward control to keep the nominal lamp power. Electrostatic precipitation is an old technology yet still many possible applications for improve our environment. Non-thermal plasma has been evolved from ESPs to treat gaseous pollutants in atmospheric air. NTP produces highly reactive radicals (O, OH, etc.) that promote chemical reactions to remove gaseous pollutants. NTPs have been applied for removal of odor/allergen, volatile organic compounds(VOCs), etc. These applications require high energy efficiency in addition to low cost and reduced size. To improve the energy efficiency, combination of non-thermal plasma and catalysts has been investigated, and has been applied in several commercialized products for indoor air cleaning and VOC decomposition. DeNOx and deSOx can also be made. Recently significant improvement of NTP processes has been made, especially combining with catalysts. NTP can also be applied to liquid. For example, nitric acid can be reduced to ammonia. Wet-type NTP reactors are effective to clean exhaust gas, as well as cleaning of contaminated water.","PeriodicalId":178685,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115600197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
