Employing a statistical pattern recognition framework, implemented by means of feedforward neural networks, models were developed for recognising, from vehicle control data, four classes of driving situations: highway, main road, suburban traffic and city traffic.","PeriodicalId":173372,"journal":{"name":"ITSC 2001. 2001 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems. Path planning in the context of public transportation systems must consider the route constraint that public vehicles serve on particular paths and that passengers cannot order the drivers to change the bus routes. Explicit representation of the route constraint helps us to design efficient algorithms that focus on viable routes for computing travel plans of interest. This paper presents two strategies for capturing the route constraint. The first strategy employs connectivity matrices, and applies special properties of matrices for quickly identifying feasible travel plans for the desired trips. The second strategy uses hubs where many service routes concentrate for computing travel plans. Our algorithms perform very well in field tests.","PeriodicalId":173372,"journal":{"name":"ITSC 2001. 2001 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems. Proceedings (Cat. Within the R&D MOBINET project, a real-time system is currently under development for the dynamic estimation of traffic conditions on the very large network of the Munich metropolitan area. Estimated traffic conditions are used by transportation management operators and transmitted to private information providers. The paper describes the challenges identified within the development process, mostly of practical nature, and the solutions adopted so far to address them.","PeriodicalId":173372,"journal":{"name":"ITSC 2001. 2001 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems. This investigation includes two of the major fields in ITS applications: road-to-vehicle, and vehicle-to-vehicle communications. Besides that, the propagation measurements presented also focus on the transition effects when moving between the regions outside and inside a tunnel, which represents its entrance environment. The experimental results of path loss and delay spread profiles are presented and analyzed.","PeriodicalId":173372,"journal":{"name":"ITSC 2001. 2001 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems. The proposed traffic signal system applies the emotional algorithm to determine its motion. The emotional algorithm estimates the emotional value based on the emotional functions, which are defined on the emotional space. The emotional space consists of four factors, \"HAPPY\", \"RELIEF\", \"AFRAID\" and \"ANGRY\", and provides the emotional states of the system by the value on it. The emotional function imitates the state of driver's mind, and aims at the system not inflicting psychological stress on the driver. Moreover, the emotional function achieves different characteristics of performances' individuality. The individuality of traffic signals can optimize the arrangements of signals. This report proposes the principal architecture of the emotional algorithm. The numerical simulations show the effectiveness of the new emotional algorithm with individuality and show the optimized arrangements of traffic signals. The DEA simulator, of which parameters dynamically change by evaluating the congestion of a road, improves the architecture of traffic signals networks.","PeriodicalId":173372,"journal":{"name":"ITSC 2001. 2001 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems.
