There is currently a growing interest towards forest products which meet sustainability goals through reduced impact on the forest ecosystems, improvement of human well being and a strong link to the territory; this concerns notably the demand for: wood as an optimal material for sustainable building; non-wood products; wood biomass for energy use. Indeed, sustainable forest management is not in conflict with a productive use of forestland, without which abandonment and land neglection could further occur. To meet these new societal demands through a viable and sustainable use of forest resources is a true challenge; forest owners must be supported in this regard, to supply a variety of forest goods and services while maintaining economic viability. To this end operative strategies are outlined.","PeriodicalId":173092,"journal":{"name":"Italian Journal of Forest and Mountain Environments","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134144307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, the forest role in soil conservation must be considered in the wider extent of forest management sustainability, that is aimed at exalting the efficacy of forest systems on water resources, and at contrasting soil erosion processes as the most important symptoms of desertification. The present work will illustrate the main aspects resulting from the reports on the three topics characterizing the third session of the congress. During that session, the analysis was focused on: the mechanisms involved in hidrogeologycal processes in forest systems, the effects of silvicultural actions on water availability, the role of forests and of silvicultural techniques in the regulation of water cycle, the efficacy of wood in the mitigation of alluvial events, the influence of riparian vegetation on maximum stream flow and the role of silviculture in its management. Further topics were: soil management for degradation prevention, desertification risk, methods for quantification of vulnerability levels of forest areas and identification of their causes, along with the role of forest management for prevention and mitigation of desertification risk, as well as silviculture intended to grant soil conservation in the Apennines and Alps’ forests.","PeriodicalId":173092,"journal":{"name":"Italian Journal of Forest and Mountain Environments","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116999054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Congress outputs may synthesized in the following issues: i) participated and informed decisions; ii) innovative research; iii) new cultural approach. In relation to future perspectives, the Congress suggested innovative ideas and theories, as referred to in the final motion. A new forest strategy for the full implementation of sustainable forest management has been traced, on the basis of synergism between scientific and humanistic knowledge and of consciousness that future of silviculture implies the recognition of the growing importance of forests for the quality of life.","PeriodicalId":173092,"journal":{"name":"Italian Journal of Forest and Mountain Environments","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133628915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quelle regionali sono gli stanziamenti che confluiscono annualmente nel fondo forestale regionale ed in quanto tali destinati a priori al settore. Per quel che riguarda quelle nazionali, invece, queste lo sono state nella misura in cui le foreste erano incluse nei programmi di cui si e stato richiesto il finanziamento. In questo l’Amministrazione regionale e stata molto determinata ed abile, riuscendo ad intercettare significativi finanziamenti per il settore. Dall’indagine condotta dagli Autori, tuttavia, i coefficienti di spesa sono stati piuttosto bassi fallendo su alcune iniziative particolarmente rilevanti. Le conclusioni del lavoro intendono soffermarsi sulle criticita esistenti in Regione, emerse anche considerando l’esperienza dei programmi comunitari (CARBONE et al., 2009), al fine di fornire elementi per migliorare la capacita di spesa dei finanziamenti futuri.","PeriodicalId":173092,"journal":{"name":"Italian Journal of Forest and Mountain Environments","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128608404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oggi, le moderne politiche territoriali cercano di conciliare le esigenze di protezione con quelle di tutela e ripristino degli habitat fluviali. Il presente studio ha l’obiettivo di individuare nuovi sistemi di gestione delle aree naturali e semi-naturali lungo l’asta fluviale dell’Arno. Lo studio si e avvalso di una cartografia di dettaglio dei tipi forestali e dell’uso e copertura del suolo realizzata per fotointerpretazione di dati telerilevati e con osservazioni a terra. Inoltre sono stati condotti rilievi su aree di saggio rappresentative delle realta esistenti lungo il corso dell’Arno e applicati diversi indici funzionali. L’analisi particolareggiata del tratto di fiume ricadente in Provincia di Firenze ha evidenziato la presenza di ambienti diversificati sottoposti a differenti gradi di antropizzazione. Questi ambienti costituiscono importanti bacini di biodiversita e zone di fruizione per lo svago e la ricreazione. I sistemi di gestione proposti sono improntati su criteri di multifunzionalita e di sostenibilita al fine di contemperare le esigenze di sicurezza idraulica con i valori ambientali, sociali e paesaggistici della vegetazione riparia.","PeriodicalId":173092,"journal":{"name":"Italian Journal of Forest and Mountain Environments","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124237008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tra il 1990 e il 2009 le emissioni totali di GHG sono diminuite del 5,4%. Il trend 1990-2009 per il settore agricolo mostra un decremento del 15,1%, mentre la categoria LULUCF e responsabile della rimozione di 94,7 Mt di CO2 dall’atmosfera nel 2009. Dal 1990 al 2009, il prelievo totale di CO2 equivalente e cresciuto del 53,2%.
