Here, we address the method for the construction of 3D geometry based on the use of Elliptic Partial Differential Equations (PDE). The geometry corresponding to an object is treated as a set of surface patches, whereby each surface patch is represented using four boundary curves in the 3D space that formulate the appropriate boundary conditions for the chosen PDE. We present our methodology using a plugin that was developed utilizing Maya API. The plug-in provides the user with tools that could be used easily and effectively for designing purposes. Maya is a popular 3D modelling tool. Various types of shapes with different complexities are presented here. Our proposed method allow the designer to utilize the Maya functionality for sketching curves in the 3D space that represents the outline of arbitrary shapes, construct the corresponding model using the PDE method, deform and sculpt these models interactively by editing the boundary curves.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115359619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The convergence of computing, media, and telecommunications produces environments that contain elements of their origins, but also contain new components that allow interaction in new ways by new users with new kinds of information. This poses problems for effective human computer interaction and human media interaction because the paradigms are not well understood. Converged environments are driving these new uses just as the first PCs supported keyboards and then WIMP interfaces. Traditional models of human computer interaction are not adequate to deal with this complexity, and the shifting of the boundaries brought about by convergence.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115366184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In reviewing the existing techniques, we have compared the performance of Nilsson et al’s algorithm, Haar Training implemented within Open Source Computer Vision Library (OpenCV) and Keinzle’s algorithm in face detection. Then, we have produced some experimental results suggesting that the Multifractal approach would help to extract key facial features of a human face. We conclude the paper with some discussions on how the work can be taken further.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"2009 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123815883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We try to answer the question — is it possible to substitute a real learning environment with a fully immersive 3D virtual space? And if so, what role should a virtual teacher play and what skills should he have? We describe several advantages that virtual environment (VE) has as compared to an ordinary classroom. It enables children to explore a phenomenon involved and gives them a strong incentive to study. Further, in VE we can transfer a lesson to inaccessible places and carry out demonstrations and experiments that are unrealizable on Earth. We consider the relationship between VST and game-like environments. We present some particular educational applications developed at our institute on the basis of Avango VR-system. Finally, we discuss the future of educational virtual environments and virtual storytelling.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121179768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method works in the transform domain by embedding the watermark in the residual DC values of the 4 ×4 intra-prediction blocks. The DC values that are to contain a watermark bit are chosen randomly. The set of random values that are used to select the DC values are considered to be a “key”. This key is made available at the receiver side in order to extract the watermark. Experimental results show that the technique is transparent with minimal effect on the host video sequence. Further, since only the DC coefficients are utilized to contain the watermark, the embedded watermark is resistant to compression.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126257159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To solute this problem, a general concept of the repairing, that uses various types of mathematical fields, is proposed. This concept provides an open framework to use together various methods of missing surface estimation. Many of existing ones can be embedded in this framework by defining the corresponding fields. The concept provides that during the repairing process the embedded methods supplement each other to achieve the best result. Ability of the concept to be effectively used to repair even heavy damaged CAD-models has been proved.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126422638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prime examples are the 3D communities such as Second Life and There.com. At the other end of the spectrum, simpler social web applications such as Facebook are more popular than ever. All of these applications share a common background (instant communication, large user groups,...) but vary greatly in their capabilities. In this paper, we will focus on three of the aspects required for virtual interactive communities: communication, visualization and scalability. Instead of sticking to a theoretical discussion, we will show state-of-the-art examples, based on actual projects that are undertaken on demand from the industry and in a multi-disciplinary context.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"705 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115124285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Image features are accessed and extracted directly from JPEG compressed domain. This method extracts and constructs a feature vector of histogram quantization from partial DCT coefficient in order to count the number of coefficients that have the same DCT coefficient over all image blocks. The database image and query image is equally divided into a non overlapping 8X8 block pixel, each of which is associated with a feature vector of histogram quantization derived directly from discrete cosine transform DCT. Users can select any query as the main theme of the query image. The retrieved images are those from the database that bear close resemblance with the query image and the similarity is ranked according to the closest similar measures computed by the Euclidean distance. The experimental results are significant and promising and show that our approach can easily identify main objects while to some extent reducing the influence of background in the image and in this way improves the performance of image retrieval.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121129906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Severe solar activities could have a catastrophic impact on human activities in general i.e. damaging satellites, flight navigation, power distribution stations, telecommunications, etc. In this paper, a new model has been designed and implemented to calculate the energy of solar active regions and the solar disk energy. The method has been tested in a series of experiments and a relationship has been found between the calculated energies and solar flare events. A final automated real-time model will be designed later to provide flare forecasting, based on the proposed model.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114708700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Challenges are therefore presented to provide natural user interaction to enable effortless virtual object manipulation. Presented in this paper is the development and evaluation of a human-computer interaction system based on natural hand gestures. By employing a hybrid inertial and ultrasonic tracking system to provide the absolute positions and orientations of the user’s head and hands as well as a pair of high degrees-of-freedoms data gloves to provide the relative positions and orientations of finger joints and tips in both hands, the proposed system is shown to be able to automatically track and recognise a number of simple hand gestures. The effectiveness and potential of the proposed system is demonstrated through the five basic object manipulation tasks involving selection, release, translation, rotation and scaling of a 3D virtual cube.","PeriodicalId":171328,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on CyberWorlds","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125792399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
